ebshot - 2012-07-16 1:17 PM I am suffering from lack of motivation.  I just don't feel like doing anything.  Blah.

On the positive side, I am down two pounds this week.  Sweet!  Also, two of the three kids are at their first overnight camp.  I dropped them off yesterday and they both were excited and didn't want me to stick around.  I think that is a good sign.

Cole is off at school so I should take advantage of having no one home and take a nap go out for a run.  Riding tomorrow.

Go run. You know you'll feel better for it.

We're quiet today. All waiting for Adrienne to fill us in.

I went out running late last night -- I was hoping to be out 2.5 to 3 hours, which would have put me home between midnight and 12:30, but I took a tumble at mile 8. I hate that. I actually skidded across the sidewalk -- road (sidewalk??) rash on my right knee and chin (of all places!) Amazingly, I skinned only the first one or two layers of skin off the palms of my hands and my elbows, so while they are a bit bruised and very tender (and sensitive to heat I discovered this evening while cooking dinner), they are fine. It could have been worse. I got home, looked in the mirror, and my nose was completely covered in dirt/grime. It must have "hit" the sidewalk, but only enough to get coated with road dirt, not enough to scrape.

I've been lectured all day by my family for being out that late (including my 11 year old). I told them all what I was doing before I went out and my route, and my husband sent me off with a nice hug and a quick "Your a$$ looks great," so I didn't realize they were so against it.

I ended up being out for just under two hours, so I did get to practice some nutrition (which was one of the goals). I was on pace to cover 15-16 miles in three hours, and would have easily completed the minimum 12 I was going for (I was going to stay out for the final few only if my nutrition was working and I was still feeling good), until the tumble.

It's funny how when you first hit the pavement the thought is, "Please don't let anything be broken or sprained." I was kind of stunned for a few seconds and couldn't move at all, but obviously, I managed to get up and walk for a couple minutes, before I was able to run again.

It made for interesting conversation at Sunday School this morning with my 3-5 year olds. They were fascinated by my wounds. Laughing

I hope everyone else had a good weekend. We are actually seeing the "light at the end of the tunnel" with the RV renovation project. Then my husband announced tonight that he wants to add a solar panel. Oh dear. The only other down side is that the "living room" sub floor (which we replaced yesterday) in the RV started squeaking tonight. We were scheduled to put the flooring on it tomorrow, so now I don't know what he wants to do.

Awww ... {{MELON PRESS}} and kiss for the boo-boos ... hope they heal fast!

I'm torn on running at night. I do it, although with canine company and a headlamp. But (pre-headlamp days) I've tripped on something I didn't see, went flying, and landed on my head resulting in a concussion.

That will go some way to explaining it, the frequent deliriums will cover the rest.

Lots of head trauma as a kid, surprisingly little throughout the prizefighter days, a few good knocks as an adult, but that running concussion and then the Bali Tri '11 one were within a year of each other ... rut roh ...

Wait, what were you saying? uhhhh ... who are you, again?

Go to the Race Reports forum and find it there. The same thing kept happening to me. Probably some corruption in the roundabout links ...

Asalzwed - 2012-07-16 10:43 AM I was waiting for official results but that may take an eternity. I finished with a time of3:23 (might be 3:22) no watch, no headphones, no hr monitor. A 10+ min PR. I finished in the top 10 women (6?5? Maybe) and I think I won my AG group. Sorry for all the half information. The really great news is that I will be able to register early for Boston (they now have a rolling registration process) the RR can fill you in oneverything else whenever I get to it. Lots to share.

WOW, 10+min PR! Awesome!! All those miles paid off, greta job!!! Can't wait to see the race report.  Glad you made it to the light at the end of the tunnel and didn't follow that other light...

And if you are running Boston, then I will definitely be on the sidelines to cheer you on!!

Ohhh yes, I am going to Boston. I had BQed in my first marathon but only by a minute. I was concerned that was not going to be enough to actually get me a spot before registration filled up. I can now register on day 3 I believe so, I'd say my chances are pretty solid.

So, all you east coasters than can make it should!

We are planning on getting there with a lot of time so we can head up to NY city and also spend some serious time in Boston sigh seeing.

Kate: I LOVE your frog pics, they are so adorable!

Allen: I LOVE your editing of the captions of Kate's frog pics, you are so funny!

Brie: super job with your tri and scoring a piglet to take your pic, nice new profile pic!  For some reason I can't get to your RR.

Chris: congrats on a new PR and the great looking action shot/profile pic!

Salty: wow, girl!!  Sooper dooper job on the PR and BQ, way to rock it!!

Jen: I notice I handle my alcohol differently now that I am either older or don't drink nearly as much as I used to.  Sorry to hear you feel yucky!

Felicia: ouchie, sorry to hear of your tumble. Glad it wasn't worse.  Heal quickly!

Had a fun weekend holding a grad party for my niece Sat. and doing a modified 'Quinto Day' (golf, biking, geocaching, kayaking, beer) with my friends Sun.  Sadly rain kept me from doing my bike ride Sat. and kept kayaking off the board for Quinto.  Have no fear, we added in the 'martini drinking while waiting for storms to pass' pasttime to still have a 5th event!

Below is a rock-stacking sculpture someone had made with river rocks and presumably found 'river trash' goggles.

I put my bike helmet on it to complete the look!  There was another one that reminded me of the Vancouver Olympics Inukshuk.

Inukshuk

 Pretty rock stack

I will be leaving for Lake Placid on Wednesday to spend a glorious week doing tri-training and cheering friends on during the Ironman!!  I plan to take my old, decrepid laptop along and hope to post some pics and log my training.  I'm so excited!  I love running the trails there and swimming in clean, clear, gorgeous Mirror Lake.  This WILL be the year I do a full lap (just one, not the race requirement of 2) of the swim course.  I'm not sure if I am taking both fat and skinny tired bikes, but at least skinny is going along.  This will be my first year (of 4?) that I took a skinny-tired bike, can't wait!

?

Can't see your pics eitherYell. Stupid technology.

Who is a runner stud? SALTY!!!!! You go girl, 10 minute PR is AWESOME!!!! Great job on the BQ. The real question is if they had to lube everyone up to get through the tunnel?

Oh Chris, of course they had to lube every one up, you don't get a PR just by running faster than usual.

OK, so I did something that some might consider kind of lame...I changed my registration in my August triathlon from Oly to sprint.  Even though I think I probably could have struggled through, I don't think I'll be able to put in the training time required between now and six weeks that I should.  The swim Saturday left me very concerned for the near-mile distance, even though I was pleased with my swim, because I was really tiring towards the end.  Also, the 5k was pretty tough (yes, it was hot, but it will likely be hot in August too) and I couldn't imagine if it was twice as long... I just haven't had the time for training that I anticipated and I don't want to do that distance and have it be miserable.  Sigh.  I figure, it's my first season, let's try to get a better sprint time and then I can work on my swim for next season and really nail the Oly distance.

what does the pod think? Lame? Smart? Understandable? Undecided

It's one of those literally irritating lessons that whatever you need to lube for the NEXT race makes itself patent in the last one.

BTW I never put deodorant/antiperspirant on before races. Did you?

We're quiet today. All waiting for Adrienne to fill us in.

I went out running late last night -- I was hoping to be out 2.5 to 3 hours, which would have put me home between midnight and 12:30, but I took a tumble at mile 8. I hate that. I actually skidded across the sidewalk -- road (sidewalk??) rash on my right knee and chin (of all places!)

Oh no!  I am sorry to hear about your fall.  I hope that you are feeling OK today.

I'm glad that you were able to practice nutrition at least.  Take care!

Undecided

Jeebus. If only I EVER, even just ONCE exhibited that kind of wisdom.

Doing what's best for your time, health, and body and setting yourself up for success.

X2 on Yanti's wisdom.

Lots of common sense coming from you. I also have very similar concerns about my first planned Oly, also in August. I'm still dithering, whereas you take action. Good on you.

Nice work there Salty!  I can't wait to hear more about it :-)

They don't call her Slip 'n' Slide Slapper Salty for nothin'.

Who is this "they" you speak of? Speaking of lube, I really could have used some. Not sure what the heck happened (I followed the nothing new on race day rule) but my armpit got SUPER chaffed.

It's one of those literally irritating lessons that whatever you need to lube for the NEXT race makes itself patent in the last one.

BTW I never put deodorant/antiperspirant on before races. Did you?

Yeah, I did. I can't imagine not doing so! I smell SO BAD after the race. My race stuff was in a plastic bag ready to go downstairs to be washed and J smelled it and nearly died.

I was thinking of you, too, as I wrote that, because I was one of the people egging you on to sign up! I went to the website and saw that the Oly was full with a waitlist and the sprint was still open, so I just emailed the race director to see if I could switch.  So glad that i could, but I would have just muddled through it if I couldn't.  If you really don't think you're ready, I don't see why there's any need to do it.  Pride was my obstacle, but I'm letting it roll right off now. Laughing It's actually kind of a relief! (Another issue - I have a 9 day eating/drinking binge, aka vacation, one week before the race and I know that will hurt my abilities!)
