So I'm trying like heck to get into a group buy but it appears that it has already closed.  There was a group buy on Serbu Firearms made .50 cals and the single shots were under $2k.  I think the semi-auto was $6700 or something but I don't recall.

Hey, did any of y'all go to the "Stop the NRA" rally?
Well, neither did just about anyone else.

Really good article.
http://mobile.businessweek.com/articles/2013-04-25/three-more-reasons-the-nra-wins-on-gun-control

I also think it's interesting how most of the articles online right now focus on how the NRA is all about controlling politicians with political contributions. The website followthemoney.com lists the NRA's direct political contributions at $2.8MM from 2003-2012. The AFSCME on the other hand has contributed $107MM, $38MM of that at the federal level and 98% of those contributions to democrats.

Pretty clear that the 2nd amendment is a voter issue, not a political issue. Voters will oust people for voting against gun rights regardless of what the NRA does.

That will do in a pinch.  The 10 is nice, I'm partial to a bolt action, specifically the M40A3. It's a tad bit more accurate at distance.  These days I have a Remington 700.

Well that is the standard by which all are judged. And once you get a really heavy, expensive semi-auto... bolts look more appealing.

But I wanted a jack of all trades and that is what I got. Built for accuracy and I'm hitting steel out to 1000 yds with surplus 7.62. (It's big steel )I'm thinking of building a light weight carbine upper next...

Back in the day when I shot competitively, I used the 6.5X284 for 600 and 1000 yd. work.  I believe the 6.5X284 is still the choice for 1000 yd., at least it was when I stopped competing. Now I only use that round for deer hunting and have taken some at well over 600 yds. with 140 gr. bullets.  Its just a great accurate round with very low recoil.

Now this thread is getting good!

I am ashamed to say I don't have many pics of my "stuff" on my phone but here is one of my Rock River Arms AR-15 the day my wife bought it for me for Christmas. It looks a bit different now but pretty close.

I've always hated the AR-15s. Shot an M-16 in the Army then was issued a 1911, S&W model 10 and Beretta (HATE that one), and was completely unimpressed with the platform and the .223/5.56. An AR isn't even as interesting due to the lack of giggle switch the M-16 has. Semi-auto only, same as a Remington 7400 and all the other hunting rifles and not even anywhere near as powerful a round as any of the hunting rifles.

It wasn't until all this hoopla with people who know little to nothing about firearms pushing to ban them that I was even vaguely interested in buying one.

I'll probably give one to my sister for her birthday. Adjustable stock so it'll fit her better than most rifles and a moderate power round so it won't beat her shoulder to death.

I may take another pic but there's not much difference. Bottom one still hasn't had the chamber notification flag taken out, the magazine is still in plastic and I'm considering selling it off or giving it to short and pestering (sister).

I've got a Trijicon RM01 red dot and a set of flip up Troy metal sights on the top one and about 10 magazines now. That'll work for a go-to home defense type zombie apocalypse grab and run to my land in the hills type rifle.

(edit) Just looked at the sight, corrected model number. I'm not really into ARs

I built 3 ARs. One for me and two for my kids. I got sequential serial numbers on the lowers for the ones I built for the kids.

I used to love the .308 but now, my round of choice is 300 win mag. I reload and once I got the O.A.L. right, that gun can put the .30 cal round where I want it with authority.  I added a nice trigger and I'm going to glass bed it and thread the end for one of the cans currently in paperwork.  That will be my go to weapon of choice.

Outside the 300 win mag, I love the .243 for it's versatility. You can load it for a varmint round or put in a 95 grain for a deer.  At any rate, it's great, flat shooting round.

If money weren't an object my next gun project would be a .50 Beowulf AR. Saw a video on that round and it was mighty impressive. Would have to get into reloading first so I would have something to shoot out of it. Would be a fun gun to have and could stop just about anything.

I have a AA upper on a Essential Arms lower.  Make sure you don't use an adjustable stock, as it prob hold up to the recoil over time.  BTW, its fun to shoot cinder blocks with it.
