Keri, #21

Great shots of the kids.  They really get into the game.  Keri is so tiny next to those other girls.  I agree with Robin, I like 101 for Caleb.

Keri is usually the smallest kid on the court, but she's also the fiercest. I'm not kidding when I say she's an animal.

Caleb is usually one of the biggest on the court, I wish he were more of an animal, but he holds back. They lost by 2 points last week, he was so upset after the game, he knew he held back, and he knew if he'd have stepped up a few times things might have ended differently. I think he has the proper motivation now to step it up.

There will be several girls from our softball team at the clinic tomorrow. When I get groceries today I'm going to get some mini-cupcakes to take along for lunch. That was Keri's suggestion. She's getting off the bus at grandma's today and they're going to bake me a cake.

This morning it is 64 degrees, LOL.  Guess they didn't work on it over the weekend.

Good morning Ghoulies!

So... anything happen in your lives this weekend?

Spent Saturday with Keri at the college for a softball clinic. Caleb's morning basketball game was cancelled because they were calling for now, we didn't get any until 6:00 at night. I feel bad for some kids, they way their parents talk to them, and pressure them when it comes to sports. One dad was saying something to his daughter about being more like Keri. I REALLY didn't like that. She isn't Keri, how about you encourage the kid instead of tearing them down?

When they girls were doing their pitching session the one college girl working with our group went and got the head coach. The head coach walked up behind Keri and motioned me over, I was catching for her. She said Keri was doing a good job, a REALLY good job, and they didn't want to change anything, but the way she was releasing the ball she'd only be able to successfully throw 3 pitches, if she made just a minor adjustment she could throw 6 different pitches. We're going to work on  the minor change. She was throwing HARD. A little high, but hard.

Caleb scored 3 birthday points in his game Saturday night, and had 5 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots. I call that a good game for him. His knees are bothering him. I'm not sure if it is just tendonitis, or some osgood-schlatters.

Sunday. Sunday. Sunday.

Keri is tough as nails. She really is. They were playing a tough team, as I've told you, the games are very physical, and Keri isn't the biggest kid on the court. It was early in the game, beginning of the second quarter we think. There was a loose ball near the far basket, and Keri, and a bigger girl from the other team went after it. It all happened so fast. The girl plowed through her, knocking her down. One of my SIL's was there, and she thought it looked like Keri's arm got stomped on. Keri didn't think she put her arm straight down, knowing that's how she broke her arm the first 2 times, but the type of break she has, the outstretched arm is more likely than getting stepped on.

Anyway... my kid is rolling around on the floor screaming, and the refs didn't stop the game. Her coaches were yelling at the refs, one ref stopped and stood beside her until the play was over, but they let the game go on. They shouldn't have. I couldn't watch, I turned around and was facing toward the bleachers. When they did stop it I looked up, and a friend of mine was in the bleachers, she said GO. I went out on the court. One of her coaches is a physical therapist, the other an occupational therapist, I took over the assessment. Nobody knows my kid like I do. I knew it had to be big considering the rolling and screaming. I was hoping it wasn't broken, but highly suspected it was. We got her off the court, someone got ice. I took her out into the hallway, and she asked if we could go into the restroom. She started vomiting. I got her cleaned up. We went out in the hallway, and she sat down on the floor. I had to continually support her wrist, and her elbow. If I let go she was in obvious pain. Caleb's game was next, so his team was out in the hallway, because the girls were in the locker rooms. He asked me what I needed. I told him which first aid kit I needed from the car, and he went. I told Keri we were going for x-rays. She said she wanted to stay until after Caleb's game. :-|

Caleb came back with my first aid kit, and I splinted her arm. She wanted to go back in and sit with her team. I got her situated and went back over to the bleachers. I pulled out my phone and asked another friend who had told me about a good ortho place after Keri broke her name last time. She gave me the name and I pulled it up on my phone. It was 5:00, they were open until 6:00. It was halftime, so I grabbed Keri and we left. My mom, aunt, Donnie's parents, his brother and his wife were all there to watch. Donnie's parents told me they'd get Donnie and Caleb home.

In the car Keri started crying again. She felt bad that people had come to watch her play, and now she wasn't playing. She was upset that her team, which only had 9 players, was now down to 8, and she couldn't help them. I tried to comfort her. We walked into the ortho urgent care at 5:30, we were walking out at 6:30. They took us right in, x-rayed her, and even put the cast on right there. Everyone was very nice. I take her back next Monday to follow up with the pediatric ortho. It was just last spring, around Easter that she broke her arm. This is the third time in all. She is only 10. I not only worry about her wrist, but about her elbow and shoulder, too.

She slept with me last night, and we both stayed home today. We are going to go out for lunch later, and Caleb has a basketball game this afternoon about 45 minutes away. We are supposed to get hit by another bitter cold spell tonight through Friday morning. We may spend some time this morning trying to find a long sleeve shirt that will go over her cast. I just bought her a new winter coat yesterday, a size up for next winter, but I think the arms are big enough that she can get her hand through, no glove though. Maybe when we're out for lunch we can stop somewhere and see about mittens.

NO MORE BROKEN BONES FOR ANYONE EVER!!!!!

The other rough part of my weekend was my birthday. Most of it was pretty good.

But...

I never heard from my parents on my birthday. Not a word. My mom came to the games yesterday, she walked in right past me, and my aunt which just happens to be her sister, and never even said hi to us. I was sitting with her and my aunt during Keri's game, and she never said a word to me. When I was gathering up Keri's things, before we left for x-rays, she did ask if I wanted her to ride along. No, I don't want someone who can't acknowledge my existence to ride along.

I know this is how she is. I shouldn't expect to hear from my parents on my birthday. It shouldn't bother me anymore, but it does.

I was fielding calls, texts, pm's, and emails all evening from all kinds of people who had heard about Keri, asking if she was ok. My mom never asked how she was.

It makes me sad. I've said for years I just need to cut the ties and move on. I think it is time to do that. It stresses me out to be around them. I don't need that in my life.

Hey there Ghoulies!

Holy Moly Ann!!!!!! Keri surely get's banged up a lot. I am sorry she is hurt. Congrats to Caleb for his great game.

Your Mom... It is hard. I have watched several of my friends try to deal with parents who cannot or will not display love or approval. It doesn't matter how old, it seems you always want Mommy and Daddy to love you. Here is a giant {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{HUG}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} from the family you choose!

Kendra! WHOOOP WHOOOOP on the race! That is exciting. What Ann said.. ice and foam roll that hip.

I am doing chores today, the theme for the weekend, too. Nothing exciting to note, which can be good news, too.

Happy Monday!

Ann, I saw on facebook about Keri's arm.  Three times in three years, crazy.  I'm waiting to hear that social services is knocking on your door.  They visited us once when our DD had a black eye.  Anyway, tell Keri thoughts of quick healing are heading her way.

Sorry about mom.  No advice there, you need to make your own decision.  I can't wait to see you the end of March and I'll give you a big Big BIG hug.

Good morning Ghoulies!

It was 2 degrees at my house this morning. If I hadn't already been out of the office so much lately, I'd have stayed home today.

I don't know if you all remember, but last spring after Keri broke her arm my sister made a comment about how it seemed suspicious. I had probably 100 witnesses on Sunday, so I don't think anyone can blame Donnie or I this time.

Robin and Kendra, stay tucked in safe, looks like you could be in for some nasty weather!

Ann, I have no doubt, listening to you go on about your kids, that you love them both very much and that you would never do anything to hurt either one of them.  Keri is just a very active person, who plays tough, and unfortunately has paid the price.

Last night they did not expect snow in Atlanta, but to the south of us, and a little to the north.  Now it looks as if Atlanta might get some.  I have tickets to the theatre tonight in Atlanta.  We shall see what the weather is doing a bit later.  I'm suppose to go and see "The Book of Mormon".  Would hate to miss it.  I don't know what the theatre does if they have to cancel a show due to weather.  I know with sports, you are just out of luck (and the cost of your ticket).

Morning, Kendra

Snow isn't bad, I know the south isn't equipped to deal with it, but still it isn't bad. I had seen you were to get a lot of ice. Ice is bad.

I think it depends on the sporting event. We had baseball tickets before and the game was rained out, and we could get a refund, or tickets for the rain date. I think it probably depends on the venue.

Snow does not worry me since I grew up in it.  But you have to realize that people in the south do not grow up learning how to drive in the snow, so there are more accidents with the snow than the ice.  They are usually smart enough to stay home in the ice, but snow, noooooooo!  So I have learned to stay off the road just to stay away from the southern drivers.  Yes, I still think of myself as a northerner.

It will be tomorrow morning that we would have to worry about ice.  If the snow melts any today, and then freezes overnight, that will be awful.  Luckily, if there is ice, I usually can't leave home because my driveway is a steep slope up to the road, and then the road is a slope upwards from my house.  So, I won't be going anywhere.  Half of me is hoping that is the case tomorrow, the other half is not.  I have two really important meetings tomorrow that are time sensitive, and if we don't get them in tomorrow, that is going to screw up things royally.  But, I am NOT going to stress about it.

Trying to finish my degree now... I thought I'd have plenty of time. I was wrong. With everything else that goes on in my life I don't have a whole lot of time left for school.

Look at how much "free time" you have in your week, and keep in mind that classes will cost you 12-18 hours a week, per class.

Morning Ghouies

Wow, this winter is just a byach! Though, they predicted it so it really shouldn't come as a surprise. We are on the border of the crappy weather. None here yet but the mountains have some snow and ice already. They are saying we should get some by this evening.

Kendra, our problem here with drivers are the ones from the North that retired here and think they know southern snow. It turns to ice here and the DOT doesn't invest that much in clearing roads like they do up north. (We do more moving than Northern areas so that's where they put the money). Anyway, they get out and think the wet spots are water and they are ice and BOOM. PLUS, they are all retired now with cataracts and such. They don't drive so well  on  a good day. Add that to the Southern folks who just don't know how to drive in snow, curvy mnt roads with no shoulders and it adds up to just plain stoopid!
