New user 84 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread eburg - 2009-10-15 6:47 AM T1 Question - Are the bikes brought to us or do we run to the rack after the naked tent ? T2 Question - Do we rack the bikes or does a bike handler take them ? I do not know about your first question, I was working handing the T1 bags to the athletes before they went to the separate changing tents. There was one pro-woman that grabbed her bag and ran into the men's changing tent...she came running back out, tip toeing into the women's tent with a big smile and holding her hand to her face....all of us volunteers were laughing... As for the second question, the bike handlers take your bike from you. One volunteer wwas wondering why they had to wear rubber gloves. I said to her that after riding 112 miles, the bike will have Gatorade, sweat, among other bodily fluids and I do not think you want to touch that stuff...she understood at that point.... Mr Steve |

Expert 830 Chesapeake, VA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread What is this I am seeing about 85 degree water temps...that is insane. I went ahead to review the history of water temps this time of year and that is way high. Now in addition visiting these sites several times a day , Ironmanflorida.com, weather.com, and Ironman.com i will now add this to the list.... http://www.nodc.noaa.gov/dsdt/cwtg/egof_tmap.html Here are averages: August 84 September 82 October 77 The weather report shows a cold front coming in so maybe it will help. I just looked at my countdown..... 22 days, 22 hours, 22 minutes. All two's. |

Master 1655 NJ | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Ah-hem....don't we have a bit more training to do before we start seriously getting worried? Go for a little run or sumpin - once taper hits you'll have plenty of time to worry about water temps, wind conditions, etc.... This is the LBTW for most of us! (Last Big Training Weekend) Go out and getter' done!! Im procrastinating b/c I really am not looking forward to a 3 hr. t-mill run. Potty nearby trumps boredom of t-mill..... |

Mr Steve After T1, my bike was handed to me. I did not have to get it off the rack (IMFL 08). As for those water temps: the Gulf is pretty shallow, so once air temps start going down, particularly at night, it will cool down pretty quickly. I'm willing to bet you will still have a perfectly legal wetsuit swim. |

Bike brand - Specialized Race Wheels - no, but a bike shop owner offered to let me use his, I thanked him but sd, "no, thanks", quite an expensive item to borrow from someone. When he first offered I thot in return he was going to ask me to do IMFL in the nude with his bike shop logo painted on me. Maybe some sort of trade would have made me feel better...? Aero helmet - no compression socks - I have some but am afraid they may be too hard to get on at T2 Wetsuit - 2XU |
