ironannekidd - 2010-10-08 3:32 PM I read the posts I missed today. Can someone explain a gluten free diet to me?

I need to lose some weight, too. The problem for me is I already eat a limited diet, it's just not the best diet. I really do need to work on that.

Well gluten free diet isn't really a "lose weight" diet. Its just cutting anything with gluten in it out. Because I think I have a gluten intolerance....and/or lactose intolerance.

gluten is a protein in wheat. similar proteins are in barley, rye, etc.

Can't cut out wheat, I need my breads!

Lol...I am craving bread right now like nothing else...bread bread bread bread...

ironannekidd - 2010-10-08 5:30 PM I did the best I could. I just wish I could have done better.

ANN, you did the best you could! That is good enough. In fact, sounds to me like what you did was SMART. All you would have accomplished by pushing it is increase risk of injury. You've already done a 20 miler, so this wasn't bad at all. Quit beating yourself up and run the taper as planned.

I kept telling myself that. I need to run the extra miles in 3 weeks, not today.

I live on meat and bread. Right now I'm enjoying a pepperoni and bacon pizza.

Well, I'm afraid my *go to* meals won't help you much.

I'm actually looking at portion control vs what I'm eating. If I'm brutally honest with myself, I eat too much at dinner. Especially when I make pasta. I need to cut it in half.  I've started serving pasta in my small soup/cereal bowls.

I have stopped buying chips for the house because they are a weakness of mine. I haven't been eating dinner lately. I'll go a few days and not be hungry at all, but then all of a sudden I'll eat everything in site. I need to work on that.

I hear you on the chips. Danger zone for me as well. Last year I got really lean. A friend of mine was getting her Masters in Nutrition and I was one of her projects. She had me eating LOTS of small meals. For the most part 5 x day.  I was never hungry. Darn her, she graduated and moved to Park City to be a ski bum.

2 years ago when I started losing weight that's what I did. I ate 5-6 times a day and I tracked everything I ate. I lost 40 lbs doing that. Since I've stopped I've put about 10 back on. I'd like to take that 10 off plus another 10. I just can't figure out how to be that disciplined again.

I have an app on my phone that does it. After I'd enter something it would tell me how many calories I have left for the day. If I was under or over I could see where I stood for the week. It had a lot of grocery store and restaurant data already entered, I had to enter very few custom foods myself. I think once the marathon is over I'm going to stop using it again.

Very Cool.  I actually gained almost 5 lbs in the first 2 months of marathon training. I was overeating for sure. This morning I had coffee with a friend whose wife is a competitive distance runner. I commented I'd like to lose a pound or two in the next two weeks and his response got my attention. He said to go pick up a 5 lb dumb bell and imagine carrying that for 26.2 miles. I won't be starving myself, but there won't be seconds on the pasta.

Sadly, I think this can be helpful. I've not used that feature of BT.

I sort of did the same thing. When the running picked up, paying attention to what I ate went away. I keep saying I'd like to be faster, I'm sure losing weight would be a help.

I have the house to myself, except for a snoring puppy, and I'd like to go to bed already. I'm afraid if I fall asleep now I'll be wide awake at 4 am.

I just realized I said I was going to stop using my app, I mean I'm going to start using it again. Take the weight off for Carlsbad.

ironannekidd - 2010-10-08 4:28 PM Around mile 15 I had to decide if I was going to go straight and head home, giving me 18 miles, or turn right and get about 22 in.

I headed home.

Some runs are like that.  You still ran 18 MILES today!  That's a lot.

Hear! Hear!  Do NOT discount that accomplishment!
