Is anyone is in the northern climates expecting a heat wave to roll through starting Frday? We are getting projected temps in the 40's next week, I may just take my bike out for a spin if the snow melts of the roads!

I really appreciate this post--the weather is so depressing, I have stopped even checking the forecasts.  Projected high of 41o here--I have emailed my husband to claim dibs on Sunday.  I feel really motivated--Thanks!

Yup...just checked the weather here too!  Temperature doesn't usually stop me, but the amount of snow and ice on the roads this winter has been nuts!

I know you guys have been doing a lot of saddle talk.  I tried the adamo during my fitting and it just wasn't for me.  I went with the Cobb.  I have the v-flow and just bought the v-flow plus after recommendation from John Cobb due to my weight.  So anyway, I am going to try out the v-flow plus and if it works for me I am going to put the v-flow up for sale.  I'll keep you all posted.  If the v-flw plus works, you can certainly try out the v-flow and if you like it you can buy it off me.  The saddle probably has less than 500 miles on it.

Just wanted to throw out what seems like to me an excellent running training schedule for free. My cousin emailed this to me this morning as I am helping my mom train for her first HM, I looked it over quickly and my cousin swears by it so I am adding it to my arsenal of free training plans, while I learn how to write my own and what works and doesn't work. Anyway it's called "smartcoach" and is from runnersworld.com. All you have to do is type in what type of weekly mileage you plan on running, the distance you are training for, your last time at any given distance, and how long you want to train for, and voila it downloads you a free program. Check it out and see what you think, I just wanted to pass this along to everyone and will probably use it for my "A" HM or full this October or might just try it for my HM in April and see how it works out.

That's the one I've been considering most.  looks like a nice open channel in the middle for numbness and it's supposed to work well for heavier weights.  Plus a 180 day comfort guarantee is hard to argue against.

I understand that different plans work for different people.  Personally, I'm not a fan of smart coach as far as marathon training.  For shorter distances it may be much better.

Speaking of distance running.

I'm looking for suggestions on what to wear for the marathon on Sunday.  It should be about 40 degrees at the start and 60 and the finish.

I plan to bring throw away cloths for the waiting time before the start.  I am torn between wearing a short sleeve T or a racerback tank with my running shorts.  Leaning short sleeve T.

I am planning to wear a Fuel Belt race belt that has a pocket (the slim picket model).

It's going to be way warmer than the temperature that I've been training in.  If I wear that I've been training in, I'll melt!

Remember, only one of us here lives in Hawaii.

Subject: And I was doing so well

I took the week after surgery off, but didn't have much choice with the way I felt. Then the second week after surgery I felt great. Got on the trainer for an hour a couple of times and got a short run in. I also had a couple of difficult physical efforts at work. Now, the third week after surgery, I'm freaking exhausted!! Yesterday I could barely get through the day without a nap, and I've slept 9 hours the last two nights (normally 7 hours is awesome for me).

I believe I just didn't get back into training as wisely as I should have, but I felt so darn good that second week. I have two weeks of training coming upat work, and I'm expecting most of it to be somewhat physical, so I'm going to have to take the next two or three days as more rest days. I'm not happy about this, but I seem to have brought it on myself. Hopefully I can get out on the road again in less than a week.

Considering a wheel purchase from slowtwitch classifieds.  Asking $800, and estimated shipping would be $75 to Hawaii...which is pretty fair IMO.

Having browsed Ebay the last 3 weeks, this seems like a fairly good deal.  Most sets have been going for $900+.  I've been also looking at 404's which have been going for closer to $1100-$1300 for something of this condition.

I considered flashpoints...but have heard poor reviews about them based on their stiffness.  Which also makes me hesitant to quickly invest in the new Flo wheels coming out.

SRAM wheels are also an option, but very few used sets available.  They are also quite a bit heavier.

For right now, I'm mainly interested in the front to pair with my PT rear with disc cover.  But I do plan to get into some road racing where discs are obviously not allowed and a 60mm set makes sense.  This would also be an option for me at my A race...Hawaii 70.3 that also does not allow discs (and a race I plan to do regularly).  The downside being I can't use my powertap for that race.

I'd be using these for racing only...less than 150 miles per year in tris/TTs, and possibly up to 200 miles per year in road racing.

Any thoughts or opinions?  I'm not interested in tubular at this point.  And part of me knows that this wheelset will hold most of it's value if I decide to change to something else in the future.  With something like Flo...you may spend $700-750 on a brand new set...but come to find out their wheels are crap...and can't sell them.  Much like the flashpoints these days.  They retailed for $1400...and people are having a hard time selling them for $550 in good condition.

It's amazing the psychological boost some music will give you.  I've been trying to rough it so far this year (no ipod) and decided to listen to it tonight during my run.  Something clicked and my run felt great.  I've been struggling with about 5.7mph for 7 minutes at a time and tonight 6mph felt like nothing.  Even decided to get a little crazy and bump it to 7.5 for the last 2 minutes of my run.Wink

I'm still a big fan of HED in general.  And I absolutely love HED as a company.  They have a great customer service department and excellent crash replacement program.  I agree that those are pretty solid wheels for that price as well.  I thought that flashpoints were actually now branded as SRAM...am I missing something?  I personally am still thinking about selling my HED3 front and H3D rear.  It's hard to part with them, but I know I'll only be using the front for my races.  So do I sell both as a set and buy a new front?  I dunno.  I think I'm too attached to these wheels.  We've been through a lot.

I would personally wear shorts and nice running t-shirt (don't forget the vaseline!).  You'll be cold at the start, but you'll be nice and toasty by mile 2 or 3.  And a 60 F finish...nice.

what specifically did you not like about them? My only complaint really is the slow slow pace they have you run long runs at. Other then that I think I am going to try it for my HM this April to dip my feet and see what I think, but I might move the pace of the long runs up to a bit of a quicker pace. 9:08 miles seems painfully slow to run when you have 8-12 miles of them.

Thanks!  I appreciate your help with my sanity check Wink

I've pretty much settled on the short sleeve T after reviewing my logs for running in that temperature.  For a training run in the 40s, I'd probably go with a long sleeve T.  I've been using aquaphor and I've been happy with that <knock wood> for anti chafing.

Now on to worrying about what the heck I put down for my finish time and if I'm in what I think is the correct corral.  And the shirt size, they did not say it was men's and women's so I assumed men's and now the shirt might be too small.  And...
