Arriving Tues (06/20) with husband and 2 boys - 7yo and 10yo.  Any suggestions for activities to entertain the troops while mom is off checking out the course?

There is the beach right there where the start is, a big park there as well with stuff for kids to climb on, basketball courts, volleyball, etc. There is also a good sized water park just down the road, Silverwood amusement park not too far away, Tubbs hill is right around the start area as well with some great trails and scenery. If they want to drive into Spokane there is Riverside park, paths to walk on, giant radio flyer wagon to climb/slide on, a carrousel that dates back to 1909, been in Spokane the entire time.

If the weather isn't great, just a few miles up the road is Triple Play.  And indoor waterpark with aracde, bowling alley, rock wall, etc. etc.  I took my kid there in March when I went over to check out the course and they had a blast!!

The night life in Spokane isn't too bad though there may not be too many people out on a Monday night. There are quite a few bars in downtown Spokane that will be open until 2. All within walking distance of anything downtown.

smithe68 - 2012-06-05 6:43 AM kenbert61, I can't remember what day/time a drive was scheduled, I know I can drive late afternoon Thursday or Friday mid morning. I don't know the ins and outs of the course as well as some but, I have ridden it, and driven it a few times. I was hoping to be part of a caravan of vehicles that didn't have me in the front but, I can do it if needed.docfish, define nightlife. There are lots of cool places in Spokane, Post Falls and CDA depending on what you are thinking.

1:00 Friday afternoon was the time planned previously I believe.  Hopefully that'll work for all who would like to go along.  If another time works better for some, no worries.

We can meet at the Memorial Field parking lot just North of City Park (you can't miss it, large wooden bleachers) and go from there.  My truck is full at this point but as many as would like are welcome to follow along.

Yes I was planning on 1:00 on Friday as well. I will be arriving Thurs. night sometime. Someone gave me there cell number, so I was going to call them the week before to set that up. I really appreciate you guys taking us out of towners for a tour of the bike course that is very generous of you.

So I get in mid afternoon on Wed with the wife and kids. Fortunately I am staying with friends in Spokkane so they got an itinerary already palnned for us.

I did want to ask about the organized bike ride again. When is it and where?? So many messages and I can seem to find it. Wouldnt mind heading out for a long ride Friday or Saturday to check it out

Last year, the air temp was in the high 40's at start.

Currently, AccuWeather predicts rain on the 24th... but it's kind of far out to be accurate.

Sounds like the lake might be in the high 50's come race day? Anyone use a neoprene cap in the past? If so, did you like it and which brand and where did you get it.  In the past I have just done the double cap thing but the coldest I have swam was right at 60.

What do I need to add to the gear plan for rain? I imagine a June rain in GA is a little different than a June rain in ID?

Rain could be called snow in June around here, it snowed in June last year!  Seriously though, a super light weight shell is what I use when it's raining, I got one that was geared towards running, and it compacts up enough to jam in a bike jersey pocket.

I am guessing nothing more than arm warmers.  There is no way i could ride in rain gear.  I'm either wet from sweat or rain.  At least the rain will have a nice cooling effect.

I'm not sure I'm ecstatic about the rain, but I'm beyond happy about the high of 68*.  Despite being a Texan, I do NOT do well in the heat and my last few training rides have been miserable as it has gotten close to 100* at the end.
