Expert 1028 Detroit, MI. Kinda. | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I figure there will be enough collisions and carnage without athlete trying to put their feet into shoes while riding. At a smaller race, It's not as big a deal to me if someone runs me off the road, but as much as I put into this race (time and financially), I kinda like that this is one less risk I have to worry about. Probably saves a few volunteers too.

Extreme Veteran 648 Scottsdale | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread bdenehy - 2012-10-16 5:06 PM So, this got me reading the rules on transition items. I'm a little concerned with my helmet. It can't stay with the bike before or after the bike leg, right? So its in you swim-to-bike bag, then you stick it in your run bag? My aero helmet seems to have a very flimsy tail. I keep it in a hard case when its not hung from the bars in transition. When i volunteered at NY/NJ those bags were really getting tossed/piled up and just poorly handled. Any suggestions? Can you hand the helmet off with your bike after? If so, i guess you could just keep it in a case until T1. I noticed a number of helmets hanging from bikes both before the race and after last year, so it happens. I think the race rules are to store your helmet in your transition bags, but I highly doubt anyone got penalized if they left it with their bike. Your call, but I think you could get away with either option. |

COURSE SPOILER ALERT: When you run under the Scottsdale Rd bridge and appear on the East side of it, you run through a dirt lot to get back up and onto the bridge. Just on the N side of the buildings on the N side of the side Rd (you run parallel to) is an In n Out Burger. I am sure they would gladly hook you up with a shake and a double-double if you stopped on one of the loops. |

That was you? I saw that question and got a chuckle out of it. You asked if it was considered outside assistance or something, right? Nice one. |

I'm not so sure I could handle an In and Out burger on the run, but I am seriously considering a stop at McDonalds during the bike, if there's one along the way. |

Veteran 930 Morgan Hill, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I've got two more big weekends on my plan before starting to taper for the big day. I'm at the point now where I'm obsessively reading over my training log to try to figure out/convince myself that I've done enough. As if that will change what has already been done! Can't believe we are just about a month out. Very soon my focus is going to shift from maintaining the training load to just staying healthy for the race. I keep telling my family, only somewhat jokingly, that the last couple of weeks, I'm going to live in a bubble with hand sanitizer gloves on! |

They specifically said in yesterday's FB chat that you could had stuff to family/friends and it would not be an issue, just that family/friends are not allowed to hand you anything. |

Looking at your logs briefly I would say your in a great postion....Your bike and swim yearly totals are alot more than mine and I feel I am better prepared for this IM than I was last year at this point and I have done more of SBR this year than last.

Expert 1544 Alexandria, MN | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Here's my goals for the day: Primary is to finish. Stretch goal is to finish under 13 hours. I'm hoping to finish the swim in 1:00-1:08. I'm hoping to be off the bike in 6 hours. My super stretch goal is to finish the marathon in 5 hours or better, but the running is my weakest link so we'll see what happens. |

Veteran 930 Morgan Hill, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I wonder what the odds are that Leanda Cave still shows up to race this, now that she has won Kona? On the one hand, she'd immediately validate for next year and wouldn't have to worry about it, on the other hand, I think all would forgive her if her prep between Kona and Arizona was less than optimal and she decided, well, maybe there is another race to validate at next year. |

Thank you and see all soon! I'll be on 1080's front and back and am hoping to fine. I understand it's either a headwind or tailwind. Never seen it referred to as a crosswind. Are you heavy or quite lite? If you weigh 100 pounds, then I'd worry. |
