Mind over matter?  I got in a run today.  a fast one.  I only felt the heal 3 times on my4.6 mile run.  We'll see how Sunday's long run goes.

I pulled the trigger!  I headed to the bike shop and test drove everything again and settled on the Trek Madone Carbon Frame Bike.  Like the rest of you - I don't have the money either so I put it on the old Visa Card... I justified the outrageous expense (it's the third most expensive thing I've bought behind a car and my wife's engagement ring) by telling myself that the bike will help me to be more healthy and happy.

I also made myself feel better by challenging myself to some serious goals in the next 18 months:

May - Sprint Tri
July - OLY Tri
Aug. - Century (riding to the Redhook Brewery)
Nov - HM
April 2013 - Marathon (I'm gonna bandit Boston which starts 10 miles from my house)
Aug 2013 - HIM - in Michigan

I hope to stay in touch so you can hold my (hopefully it will be skinny by then) accountable.

Wow! Nice bike! Are you gettting some Zipp wheels with it?Sealed

Have you signed up for any of your races? SIGN UP! It will make you more accountable!!

PS: Maybe you can pick up one of those fancy new Garmin 910XT you can utitlize in the pool....just add it to the bike purchase...

My last suggestion is to pick a HM someplace warm and bring the wife...

This year just keeps getting worse. Now my father in law was diagnosed with extensive lung cancer that has spread to other organs, he is being treated palliatively to keep him comfortable. We've spent the whole week at the hospital every day and the plan is to get him home tomorrow as it's his wish to die at home. Not sure he'll make it through the weekend. So my training is again at zero. Oh well they are calling for snow tonight and it's been cold all week so not missing running outside.

After spending the day sitting in conferences, I was finally able to go home and take my new bike for its first ride.  It was well worth the wait.  I was only able to go for a few miles but it was great.  With nothing rubbing against anything (on my old bike, the rear tire was bent) else, the thing I loved most was the quiet.

For the weekend - I hope to go for a run with 3 minute to 1 minute intervals on Saturday and then a nice long ride on Sunday.  Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Well went to the auction with high hopes....got there and there was a lineup a 1/2 block long for people registering for bidding.  They ended up closing the auction of after they hit 1000 bidders apparently...very disappointed to say the least!

How are you feeling these days - are all your aches and pains getting better?

Went for  a run this afternoon... for a couple of minutes (those would be the ones where I was running down hill) I got a runners high like I used to when I was logging the miles in high school.  It felt so good to be back doing it again.  While I love riding my bike, and may kiss it before heading out for a ride tomorrow, running is my first love.

Sitting here on the couch with my son getting ready to watch the OSU/Kansas game and I'm drinking a smuttynose Shoals Pale Ale.  Not a big fan of malty British Pales... need some hops to balance everything out.

Go Buckeyes!

Crazy times..I was suppose to do an hour and a half run today, though previously, I have never done that long.  BUT, I was going on a group ride too.  The bike club leader couldn't make and asked me to lead; what the??? I have only ridden with this group twice!  Oh well, had a 24.50 miler planned but the wind kicked up and only one guy, who was new to the group showed up.  Of course he was eager to ride and had never gone over 10 miles.  "Alright, we will ride but in this wind, no way am I doing 24.5...maybe 5", I said, as my hair blew all over my face.  The wind was harsh and he was drafting off of me...wt? He did state he had a hard time keeping up with me and I secretly took pleasure in that.  We only rode a little over 5 miles, I think, and I did push hard...wore my legs out and could not get the run done...it was a walk for the last 1/3 of the six mile run.  All in all an ok training day.

Up for two jobs at work, one I want the other, eh, its more pay but not as pleasant. The eh one was offered to me, they would just move me to the position.  But I already had an application in for the other so we are all waiting to see what happens.  I spent the past week training for a job I am not sure I want, doing my job, and interviewing for a third job...it was a bit much!

I rolled back into training with a 19.7 miler today.  It started pouring, then  turned to snow.  The heavy wind on my soaking clathes felt no good.  After 4 miles of this or so, it let up, and I was able to finish relatively comfortable.  I took your advice David, and went out slow.  I had a few moments of race pace miles in there.  8:50/mi pace.  I was able to ease back into long run to see how it would effect my foot.  Also, practiced nutrition intake.

Stressful week for sure. Sounds like a good ride. Almost impossible to run after a hard bike ride. Serious gut check to do that type of workout.

I had a really wonderful race this morning. A 10k. I thought I would likely get sub 48, if I was lucky get sub 47. Well I ended up with 45:24, which is so much faster than I thought possible. Especially after a horrible week of time in doctors offices, little sleep (today I was up at 4:50 so I could be in the office for 2 hours before the race)......I don't know how I did it. I am amazed.

Well, alot has to do with the lady who caught me at 6k that I ended up trying to shake for the rest of the race. Without her I may have well only gone sub 48. Good day.

So glad to hear that you had a good run!  Damn - 20 miles.. that's pretty impressive - especially considering the weather.  Any foot pain today?

I had a thought yesterday as I was doing my trail run.  I don't know if you have any long trails out there - but running on dirt or grass will also help your feet.  If you can find the right path - it can really keep your feet from taking a beating...

Enjoy a well deserved beer
