Tony, you've still got some key training to do yet if your feeling doubtful, do don't get into freak out mode just yet.  There should be some really key rides in the coming few weeks before you begin your taper.  You'll be fine buy race day.  Knowing what I've just said I remember the feeling last year as I was headed toward my first 70.3 race, I felt under prepared.  As race day approaches look at back at your calender of training and examine the work you've put in and rest easy.  Seriously, go back and look at it!

_____________

I have another race tomorrow morning.  This is the race entry that I won In Warsaw a few weeks ago.  This is a potential "cha-ching race" if I land on the podium.  The payout is as follows:

1st - $500

2nd - $200

3rd - $100

4th - $75

5th - $50

I'd love to bring home the big money but I know one of the athletes that is planning to be there beat me by 10 minutes at my first race this season (Oly) in May.  I would honestly be happy to just bring home 5th place so I can say I got paid to race once.

The race is a sprint: 1/2 mile swim, 12 mile bike and 5k run.  The pain should be over quickly.......I hope.  The bike and run courses are pancake flat according to the race director, so we'll see how well I fare.

Dirk good luck at the race tomorrow and you know we're all pulling for you. How cool would it be to place in the money? I think that would be very awesome to do that just to say that you've done. Don't count yourself out Dirk you have a good shot at this and can't wait to hear about it.

Guys thanks for the support and the reality check. I really appreciate it. To be honest I have been doubting myself lately. I think the reality of this is really starting to sink in and I've been getting more nervous about whether or not I can really finish. I guess I've had my IM meltdown so to speak lol. I thought about all this stuff during my workout tonight.

You guys are right, I need to trust in my training and believe in myself. I have been doing everything I possibly can do to get ready for this. I'm in the best shape of my life both physically and mentally. I have a good 7 weeks to go, 4 of those weeks will be all my peak training so I'll hit my distances of multiple 2.4 mile swims, multiple century rides and at least one 20 mile run in addition to the 16-20 hour weeks of training I should be closing out my training with before I begin the taper.

I have complete confidence in being able to complete the bike and run distances. My biggest concern is the swim but I believe I'll be able to do that and will probably swim right up until the end just so I have full confidence in myself. I've also added an extra day so I'm doing 3 OWS a week now.

So I need to stop worrying about all this stuff, focus on the next 4 weeks of training, continue to study and prepare for the course and get my nutrition in order. The one of the biggest things I've learned about myself in training for this is that I can do so much more than I ever thought I could do. I need to take that to heart.

No Money for this kid!!  I am a miserable failure of an athlete.  I think I am switching to hot dog eating contests instead of putting myself through this embarrassment so frequently.

I actually had a great race.  I was suffering throughout the bike and run, but the run I was suffering immensely.  I was trying to hold on to a podium spot for the entire run.  I'll detail everything in a RR later today.  You shouldn't have to suffer through a really drawn out RR since this race was a sprint.

You know your a junkie when.....

You drop your own husband on a Saturday morning bike ride. Oooops.

We actually tried riding together this morning since the kids spent the night at Granny's house. I thought it might be a good match up if he were on his road bike and I tried to keep up on my hybrid. Well that only worked for one lap. The next lap we started out and I told him I was going to try to ride a little harder - didn't see him again until we were at the truck.  Then I kept riding while he went to pick up the kids. As he was packing up his bike he told me "Jeez honey, your a beast!"

Dina, quit embarassing your husband or either tell him to get out and train...lol GREAT job!

Dirk, sorry U didn't get a check but glad U had a good race. Even if it was a sprint, I agree, we want all the details! Shoot, to me a sprint is an endurance event!!!

Dirk sorry you didn't get in on the money but I'm sure it wasn't due to a lack of effort. I'm looking forward to hearing all about it in the RR and congrats on having a great race. Finishing 6th overall is still pretty awesome.

Will great job with that long ride and yeah you could probably do an IM so what are you wating for! When are you signing up?

Speaking of long rides I got mine in today with my friend Wynn. We headed over to the North Shore where all the good hills are and he punished me like he always does but it was a really great ride today. I got in 76 miles in about 4:48 but I think I was closer to 77 miles and probably 5 hours. I did not wake up my bike computer after we took a short break after doing 5 of our infamous Oakwood Rd. hill repeats so I missed one downhill on the repeat. In any case I set a new personal best by doing 10 repeats. My previous best was 6 and I was still able to actually ride back to his house lol.

I also had a Warren moment as well, now I didn't break my chain like Warren did on some massive climb but I drop my chain going up hill and I was just looking for a spot where I might land softly. There was grass to my right so I was thinking that was the better side to go over however I was able to unclip and get my left foot down so I didn't fall over so I got some skillz as well LOL! Honestly I was expecting to go right over and got very lucky I'll admit it.

In any case what a good ride for me today. The weather was cooler than it has been and even though it was humid we got a good breeze which turned into a lot of wind and of course we had to navigate through a headwind on the way back for part of the way but I had a blast. The best thing was that I was actually able to kind of keep pace with Wynn. Man I have come a long way on the bike. Last year I felt so unworthy being on my Cervelo P2 and this year I feel like at least I belong on there and it has a decent engine. I never thought I would say this but I'm looking forward to some more punishment next weekend LOL!

GREAT ride Tony, glad U didn't fall when U dropped the chain. Glad you are looking forward to more punishment next weekend!

Wow TDF is over, I'm so sad. I sure wish they covered more bike races and tri's and running events on TV. The closing cereomiies were really good I thought.

I managed to get 2 races in this weekend, a 10k on Saturday and a Sprint today.  Pretty good effort on both, the 10K i definitely held back a little and finished at 48:50.  The sprint I was able to knock 4 minutes off of last years time, but I was feeling the affect of the 10k.  Just didn't feel the energy in my legs that I would like to have had.  Here is a short recap of the race:  Race Report

Hope everyone else had a good weekend, looks like there were a few of you who had some great rides.  That is going to make your ironman flawless.

Well after another crazy work week that stepped on my training I took the family camping for the weekend. Lots of fun, caught some wild trout, explored the woods, and walked through an old lava tube, but got zero training in.

Hoping work goes easier on me this week so I can train in the mornings again. High temps have been in triple digits here every day so after work workouts have been tough. As I type this it is 9:20 pm and the temp outside is 98 degrees. Hoping to get a run in tomorrow morning while its only 70 out.

Some good workouts and great races these past 2 weekends by so many of you. I'm jealous.

Vero good to see you checking in and glad you had a great weekend camping. I can't blame you for not wanting to deal with the triple digits and hope work settles down so you can start getting your workouts in again.

Dirk, what more can we say? Awesome results are the norm.

Will, you can absolutely be ready for the IM in time. Sign up already. Jeez.

Great races Matt - I am toast this year.

Tony, those types of efforts have to just keep building your confidence. Your body will be ready without a doubt. I'll send along some of that IM execution stuff we talked about so your mind will be as prepared as your body.

As for me - I had a fabulous ride this weekend. Well, two great rides really, but the Sunday ride was really fun. I didn't have a real plan, just wanted to hit some crazy terrain so I rode out on my familiar route but rather than stay on that path, I turned on any road with a name like Belknap Mountain Road, or Durrell Mountain Road, or anything that just looked nasty. I ended up covering 55 miles and climbing 4557 feet per Strava. It was insane how much of the ride was spent in my lowest gear wondering if I could pedal up this one. How else can you average 16 mph while pushing 228 watts for 3 1/2 hours? Some of the descents were horrifying since I didn't really know the roads and New England roads can be dicey with potholes/frost heaves/pavement neglect.

My legs actually feel pretty good today, but they're getting the day off!
