RazorTri - So glad you were able to use that information and have a good day.  Its so key to the success in IM...but even moreso in Hot IMs.  Great job on pacing...if you are going to make a mistake, that is the way to do it being conservative.   Also, on the swim, a buddy of mine did a 58' swim in 2011, and did 1:03 this year AND he said he was swimming better this year.  His thoughts were that the course may have been a little longer (like only 50-100m or so), but the fact that he could feel the current in '11, but no current this year was the difference.  We heard that the locks were on up the river, holding water back..thus no current..but not sure about the last statement.  Whatever it was, times were much slower in the swim this year.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong.  Maybe registration for next year opens on Sept 8????

This puts it the same day as Ironman Wisconsin. Maybe they are trying to get the people that are locked out of IMOO and trying to get them to Lou?

Hey all

Rough day for me.  I finished the swim, which did seem long (did not get in the water until about 7:30). I ended up in a med tent at mile 70 of the bike with bad cramps, electrolyte imbalance and massive headache.  I pretty much had the guys put me back on the bike and clip me in and finished the bike at 6:21:23.  Yes that is right 1 minute 23 seconds after the cut off.  The crowd was so nice yelling for them to let me through but no go.  I got a big hug from a fan and then went to ice my bruised distraught ego.

I will be back.  I had a great time.

PS.  I met someone from BT in Louisville when I picked up my bike.  The beginning of her username was Miami and she is from illinois.  She was really nice at my demise and just wanted to thank her.

Anyone know who she is?

It was a tough day but it was truly what I expected in the end. I felt great in the water but according to my Garmin, it was almost .25 miles long but my time was where I expected it to be. I thought the crowds were awesome on the bike course. I had a hard time between miles 75-90. My stomache locked up and I was feeling really foggy. I really had to back off the pace and was tempted to get off the bike and lay in the grass but I was afraid I wouldn't get back up. Once I got to the 90 mile mark, I began to feel better but struggled again for the first 3 miles of the run....convinced I was going to have to walk all of it. Once I got to mile 4, I began to feel better and started my walk/run intervals. Marathon was a lot slower than I had planned on and my goal time of under 15 hours didn't happen. Managed to squeek out a 15:21.......happy for my first IM. I don't know that I'll do IM Louiville next year but only because I'm considering doing Arizona. Not sure I can swing both. Jury is still out. GREAT RACE....everyone!

Congratulations to all who participated in IM Louisville.  The weather could have been a bit more friendly, but that's pretty much how August is in KY.  

I really hated hearing reports of tacks on the road again on Hwy.42 in Oldham County and the reason is that I've lived in OC all my 52 years.  I really like it here, 95% of the folks here are nice, normal, do anything for you kind of people.  I just hate it so much that we have some dumba$$ inbred redneck yellowbellied sapsucking butt munches who are intent on vandalizing the bike course. 

This year I was in Buckner before bike special needs wearing a huge "fro" wig, goofy glasses and holding a sign that read SMILE.  Maybe next year I need to relocate myself to a more rural section of the course and recruit about a hundred folks to do the same.  Maybe that would help, I dunno.

I heard about those camo idiots!!!  Its a shame, I love this race, I love the people.  But those idiots are everywhere. I even have acquaintances that say how much they hate cyclists.  There is no point in educating ignorant people, they choose to not be tolerant.

But it needs to again be stated how awesome the volunteers are.  I think its the southern charm!  I always end up leaving with a twang.

He had a great race, his goal was sub 13 and he finished in 12:58. So glad Hannah finished. She seemed like such a nice person.

I had three flats between mile 102 and 103 on the bike. Cost me 1:20 or more, but mentally and physically I was done. Three police officers kept me from throwing in the towel and managed to snag a tube and cartrige from someone who needed water. By the time I got back on the bike my legs and head were done but I couldn't quit. I ran 3-4 miles and started to walk. Walking past the shute and having to make the turn for another loop was the most mentally challenging thing I've faced in a long time.

Next year it's all short racing for me. Need a year (or two) of fun before I can even think of the work involved in IM distance. Never say never, right?

TY:  thanks for posting that. I saw you and smiled all the way to 4th street.  It is always a very small minority that give a great group of people(oldham county residents) a bad name.

Ditto on all the comments about the volunteers. they were incredibly helpful when I crashed trying to be cool and hit one of the targets with my water bottle. I swear they are angels in disquise. 

Congatulations to all who participated in IM Louisville. Finish or not - it is a great achievement to get where ever the journey took you.  This was my first IM and it is just now starting to sink in what the journey to that day really means to me. (I'm just now starting to be coherent). I mentioned before how much this group helped me through all of it. thank you all again. You know we are family now
