Good news!  My bike survived!  No cracks or bends!  My hubby is having it tuned up while it is there getting fixed so I will be ready for this challenge.

Just so I am clear - We count all miles walked, ran, biked toward the 2010?  What about our swims?  Do they count?

I am thankful for being able to ride and jog in this weather!  I have 70s this week and love every minute of it.  I am also very safety conscious.  People call my husband "safety man" so I really have no choice.  I pick up my bike tonight and will plan a long ride for Saturday.

Wow. No postings last night?  Was everybody training or watching the game?  Ok Here are my New Years Resolutions:

1.   Eat Lunch out 2 times per month max.

2.  Get up earlier (Which means I will need to go to bed earlier)

3.  Try to be more tolerant of hippies. (especially the old hippies)

4.   If I make it through the first month and feel I am well on my way to accomplishing these goals I will add more.

Hey gang!  I thought I was all better but after my run on Sunday and a full day of work I was wiped out!  I put my little guy to bed and fell asleep with him.  8:00!  Unheard of for me.  I'm usually a midnight type of girl.  I guess I am not superwoman yet.

Good goals Scott!  I appreciate your tolerance of hippies b/c I am a hippie in training.

What game?  I was on the trainer.

Now, I do think your resolution #3 does require some explanation.  Please provide forthwith.  Thank you.

As to #1, for me it kind of depends on the lunch.  There is a wonderful little salad and sandwich place near my work and for $5.19 they make this terrific salad.  I watch them make it so I know what is in there - lots of lettuce, handful of mandarin oranges, handfuls of tomatoes, carrots, peppers, etc.  They stick about three ounces of chicken breast, squirt a little balsamic vinegar, mix it all up, and I am good to go.  The key to this is the mandarin  oranges.  I love fruit, particularly oranges of any type or apples, in my salads.  And at this place, I feel like the price is right for what I get.  I don't think I could make this at home for much less.  I get this salad with some frequency.

I am a big believer in the idea that if you fall asleep early, you clearly needed the sleep.  So, it was good that you got it instead of fighting by asserting that you are a midnight type of girl.  I am an early to bed and early to rise kind of person, which is why it is easier for me to get my workouts done in the morning.

No, I suspect you are not superwoman yet.  You probably won't achieve that status until close to the HIM or maybe not until the IM.  Too soon to tell.  I know I am nowhere near it yet.

Here is a good article about being on the trainer v. riding outside.   http://alex-cycle.blogspot.com/2009/01/turbocharged-training.html  I got it from Triathlon Talk.

Thanks for posting that URL Leah...

The whole talk about the cooling fan kinda confirms to me why I was able to ride at a higher HR then normal yesterday as the basement was freeeeezeing like maybe 40 degrees plus I had a fan on me and my new LT number was a staggering 183 versus the 170 I got during my first week of testing.

The 183 number worries me because it seems awful high for when it gets warmer. I'm thinking I might split the difference when I figure out my HRzones going forward.

Who would have ever thought I could hold 183 on the indoor trainer! Thats similar to my all out running threshold #s. Crazy!

Thanks for the link. I am going to be doing some bike testing for my coach next week. I've been monitoring my power and HR for a while, hopefully it will all come together for tri season.

OK Everyone.  Tomorrow is the end of our NUTSO Challenge.  Here are the starting weights for December and our goals.  How did we do?  I'm know I'm going to be up.  Not looking forward to the weigh in!

Biked at the gym today for 30 minutes today to get back into the groove.  Feels good to get moving.  My shoulder is still jacked up though.  It hurts to try to drink my wine out of the left hand.  UGH.

Scott- everytime you post I feel like I'm guaranteed a laugh! So when the airport slapped the "Heavy" sticker on you did you have to pay extra? Just thought I'd ask!

Kate - Agree with Lisa that maybe putting the wine in a glass first might help...maybe with one of those crazy straws so you don't have to move too much...just bow your head a little..heehee.

I actually got up early enough to make it to the gym here at work for a 6:30am spin class!! WHOO HOO!! "Go Me! Go ME!" Ok, so it's one class..but it's a start! If I can do that Tues - Thurs where my other gym has a 5:45 class Tues/Thurs then come to work for the Wed one I'll be on track (I hope). Then continue my evening runs (outside in low temps and high wind..WTH?) I need to start alternating swimming in there and I'll feel better..it's only 6 months until Eagleman 70.3!!! ARGH!! I'm so behind!!

While on the bike I noticed my thighs kept hitting something...hitting?? Nope, apparently at times I'd be spinning so fast that my legs would make a "ripple" like effect on my thighs causing them to do their own little "wave dance" and jiggle up and hit the bike post....good thing it's my inner thighs..how embarassing...so I need to focus on the inner thigh jigglies being gone my Eagleman!!

Hello All - the scale said 231 this morning. I guess I should be happy since it was 235 on Saturday.  Went to the gym last night to lift and of course my neighbor sees me and has to come talk. He usually says two words but last night talked for 45 minutes.

Packed my lunch for a third straight day..a new record.   When does everyone eat their last meal/snack and their first?  I usually am done eating by 8:00 at night and eat again at either 9:00 in he morning or noon.  Thus sometimes it is 16 hours before I eat.  Any suggestions on a late night snack?

I got one of my scales yesterday. I found I lost 11 lbs. since my last weigh in for the challenge we had in September.
I found my BMI is 34.1 and my fat 36.6%. SO if I can get rid of 12% I'll be quite happy though as a second goal towards 2011 to get closer or under 20%
Thanks everyone for your continued input and support!

Wow!  That's wonderful.  Congratulations.  It shows you were quite right to get the new scale.   What was that brand again?  I think I need one.

I forgot to weigh in today, but yesterday I was 137.7, so essentially the same as the beginning of the challenge.  I have been having problems with cramping and so have started taking a lot of electrolytes.  Since I don't eat much in the way of processed food, it don't get much sodium or other such things.  I take more of the electrolytes when I do a lot of night-time indoor cycling because that's when I seem to have the most problem with cramps (this strategy might be changing).  Anyway, I do notice a 1-4 pound jump in my weight the morning after taking electrolytes at night.   So Monday's weight was 136.1 and Tuesday was 137.7.  There is nothing to account for the jump other than water retention.  At first I was thinking that this was a bad thing, but since hydration seems to be a big factor in cramp issues, I think maybe my lower weights are due to under-hydration.  All of this is puzzling to me because I never really had cycle-related water retention issues throughout my adult life.  Well, this is one of the things that needs to be figured out before the IM for sure, and preferably before the HIM.   The cramping can be quite severe, unlike anything I had ever experienced previously in my life.  I still get some cramps with the electrolytes, but it is manageable.  I already got in any workouts I intend to do today and won't need to take any electrolytes and do expect my weight tomorrow to drop back down to 136.

I have been logging my food faithfully (on Training Peaks) for these 2-1/2 days.  Monday I consumed 1,696 calories and yesterday was 2,188 (and that was too much - at least bulk-wise).  However, lately I have been hungry most of the day and today I am not, and that probably has something to do with (over?)eating yesterday.  Today, so far, I am at 886 calories (after pre-run banana, breakfast and lunch).

How is everyone doing with their logging?

I try to eat my first snack before my first exercise of the day, but that only happens if I have bananas at home.  Otherwise it is breakfast between 7-8am.  I generally don't eat after dinner (thankfully, I have never been a "midnight eater" kind of person), but if I have a planned snack or something I will have it.  One of the things that sustained me on the trainer last night was the knowledge that I was going to get 6 ounces of strawberries when I finished.

Congratulations on packing your lunch.  Generally speaking, I take my lunch because I like really knowing what I am eating.  Restaurant food has so many more calories than you think it does.   The exception is my Healthwinner salad and that's because I watch them make it and I know exactly what is in it and the only dressing that goes on is a little balsamic vinaigrette.

OK - did anyone watch the biggest loser last night?  I am never going to complain about bike seat pain again after seeing the contestants get on their bikes for the challenge and have to stay on the bikes for their 26 miles.  Also - how many freaking pancakes was the one contestant having for breakfast in his home video..20-25?  I think I see the problem.

I have no idea why I watch that show - I get pissed off everytime I watch it with the stupid gamesmanship..and how about sending two couples home within a couple of hours .. talk about screwing with people's emotions.... and wouldn't it be nice to see what the actual diets and calorie intake are for the contestants?  Apparently all they do is chew gum and drink brita water with some Quaker weightloss oatmeal every other day.

Sorry for the rant..but I am ticked at myself for watching the show. At least I have become smart enough to DVR it so I don't spend 2 hours of my life watching 18 minutes of actual show.

My next rant will be on the words lose, loose and loss and the proper use of each.  Oh - and Kudos to me..my fellow workers went to Chick-fil-a today - my absolute favorite fast food place and I actually stayed my ground and ate the lunch I packed.

Good Job Lisa on the weight loss..and make sure you use your new scale at the same time everyday.  The body fat % will be significantly different between morning and evening and whether you are hydrated or not.

Late for leaving for Tri club meeting so just a quick weigh in.

187. Happy with that as it's lower then start... but I feel like I wasted a whole month!!, but at least it's down. Going to get to 170's by Feb or bust!
