Master 2301 Rogersville, Alabama | Subject: RE: BamaDC's mentor group is Closed! Let's have a little fun. What type of odds do you guys give me on a BQ next February? I currently weigh 177 pounds. Which is heavy for me. My goal by February is to be under 165 lbs. Yesterday, I ran 13.1 miles in 1:34:42 or 7:14/mile(BQ = 7:17/mile). My average HR was close to what I plan to average at Mercedes. I probably had close to 250 vertical ascent. (If someone can give me the skinny on how to post a Garmin Connect File I'll post it.) Don't be nice, please! |

Don't be nice, please! Honest? At Mercedes probably less than 50%. You are close, but the terrain at Mercedes is not conducive to marginal BQ attempts. I'd put your chances much higher if you were running something like Huntsville or New Orleans. I don't think you can post a file. Just link the page and we should be able to see it. Just for the record I am at 172 as of this morning and plan to be at 162 for Mercedes. I'm taking bets as to whether I can get down to 1:35:xx. (I am also trying to get my critical power ratio up. I'm sitting at something like 3.4W/kg; I want 4. That means upping my CP to ~290 and dropping a dozen lbs. or so.) Edited by sand101 2010-11-08 4:23 PM |

According to mapmyrun, the 09 course has about 500 feet of ascent. I agree that's its going to be tough. If you plan a 1:35 then we need to meet up at the start. Edited by BamaDC 2010-11-08 5:55 PM |

The McMillan Running Calculator puts you at 3:19 and Daniels has you at 3:17 based on your half time. However, if you lose the weight your VDOT will go up about 2 points and based on that increased VDOT Daniels puts you around 3:10. It think it's going to be pretty tough but do able. Can't you use the "Add/Remove Attachments" link at the bottom of the screen (when you're editing a message)? You just need to post the .tcx file but it can be a pain to find. My 13.1 PB is 1:31:02 which I ran last year at Mercedes. Weight 174 lbs. If you use that time McMillan's RC gives me a 3:11:59. Which is 60 seconds off a BQ. Edited by BamaDC 2010-11-08 8:32 PM |

Master 2327 North Alabama | Subject: RE: BamaDC's mentor group is Closed! Yea, I'm planning on running the Red Nose 10mi in Jan and the Mercedes Half again in Feb. Both should be fun. I did last year's half in 2:10:40 (first ever half marathon) and would really like to go 1:55 this year. That's a huge difference, but I think it's possible. I've PR'd vulcan, my 5k time is down, I'm lighter, and I'm training smarter.... I just need to put the work in to get there. |

They changed the course for the Red Nose Run, BTW. Oh, and I sure hope the run is warmer this year. Last year was unreal - they managed to pick the coldest morning of the year. --- I'm not doing any big races, so it is the same old workout routines - until yesterday. Slight departure; I forgot my swimsuit yesterday. All I had in the bottom of my bag was my race jammers. Whoops - I guess it was time for a "fast day". When the race suit goes on the time for slow and steady goes out the window. I didn't do sprints, but did my workout at a very fast tempo pace. Since you guys get this stuff: 100yd: 1:05 200yd: 2:22 (1/2 second off of a PR. If I had known I was that close I'd have sprinted.) 500yd: 6:28 (Slow end of workout swim. Still pretty decent to end with). I'm filing that workout under "Slacking at swimming training but still evidently getting faster." Given sprints I think I could have come close to a 1 min. 100 and could have shattered that 2:22 200. Edited by sand101 2010-11-09 12:31 PM |
