It's finally Thursday - which means Thirsty Thursday tonight Thank gawd.

Sounds awesome!  What's the plan?

Drinkys, duh!
Hoping to bring a visitor with me, shhh!

Haha, fair enough.  Going to watch any sort of sporting event?  Dance club?  Pub with friends?  Dinner and drinks?  lol

I imagine I will be having a few adult beverages at home watching the hockey game.  FINALLY STARTING!

You know it's just going to break your heart when another US team wins the Stanly Cup.  Right???

I'll patch it up for you though.

Oh, I have no false hopes in my head that a Canadian team is going to win.  The only shot we have this year is Vancouver, and I don't think they'll make it beyond the 2nd round of the playoffs.

Just you wait until your Sun Belts teams come back up to Canada, where they belong    Tampa Bay's team is pretty well groomed to call Quebec City home...

Heh Heh we will see since Canada does not have the markt funds to support the number of teams in the NHL.  It is a rather symbiotic relationship since the US doesn't have enough high calibur players to fill the teams in the NHL.

It has been proven time and time again, and is currently being proven in multiple markets, that certain US cities also don't have the support to make an NHL team viable, while in Canada, there ARE markets that are untapped (rather, the tap has been closed), and would be able to support an NHL franchise.

No, Canada can't support all 30 teams in the NHL, though numbers have come out that the Canadian teams attribute 70% of the revenue of the league, but Quebec City, MAYBE Winnipeg (I'm not sold on this one), and a number of places in and around Toronto could very easily make for a viable NHL market, politics aside.

Over the past couple years, I have been very impressed with the American talent in the NHL.  In my estimation, Canada produces a larger portion of the elite players, but the US spits out more quality players.

The Final Countdown

I have that song in my head now.

As do I.

The year after I graduated from university, I went back for homecoming, and the band played this at halftime at the football game.  Now, in Canada, college football is NOTHING like it is in the US, as you may get about 5000 to a homecoming game...  probably average 2000.  Me and a friend were the drunk, obnoxious ones in the crowd, singing along with the band.  One of my greatest memories of homecoming ever.  Especially when friends of ours, in a completely different section, joined in singing.

Was awesome.
A poorly attended baseball game once rocked to the strains of "O Canada" during a Montreal Expos visit. You could hear the 5-6 of us singing echo through the stadium. The other few thousand applauded when we finished.

Haha, nicely done.

There are MANY people up here who are still rather upset about the Expos being shipped down to DC.

They don't draw any greater attendance in DC either. And their stadium, although new, is a PIA to get to via either metro or automobile.

Really, aren't Philly / Baltimore / DC all the same city anyway?

Yea, I don't really know what went wrong in DC.  The stadium being in the middle of nowhere definitely doesn't help, but neither does the 6 (?) years of just awful, awful teams.

The 'spos were doing really well, right up until the '94 lock out.  After that, the attendance just dropped, so did the quality of the team, the support in town, everything.  If that lock out didn't happen, I think Montreal would still have a baseball team.

On another note, regarding the stadiums...  They're discussing tearing down the Expos' old stadium, which opened for the Olympics that were here.  It's a horrible engineering/project management disaster, and now it can't even be used in the winter.  Just terrible.  They're discussing just bulldozing it, and starting over.

Drinkys, duh!
Hoping to bring a visitor with me, shhh!

Haha, fair enough.  Going to watch any sort of sporting event?  Dance club?  Pub with friends?  Dinner and drinks?  lol

I imagine I will be having a few adult beverages at home watching the hockey game.  FINALLY STARTING!

I'm sure there is some such sporting event of some kind going on tonight... I want to say college football. Probably just the sports bar with friends. Well, my guy friends that is.
