I wouldn't get too excited about Accuweather's forecast.  This area is one of the hardest in the world to predict the weather in more than about 36 hours in advance.  For instance, even last evening the forecast for today was a high in the low 50's and a 60% chance of light rain.  Currently it's 42 degrees and there are now small stream flood advisories.  I won't start believing the forecast for race day until about Wednesday or Thursday of race week and even then it's likely to change.

All that being said, race day could be 60's and rainy or 90's and blazing sun; you just have to plan for both around here in the springtime.  Last Sunday I rode the course with temps ending up in the low 60's and was very comfortable with shorts and a regular bike jersey with a tech fabric t-shirt underneath it.  Used arm warmers for the first lap with the temp in the low 50's when I started.  Hope this helps a little.

Hi! In response to the question about neoprene caps: I would definitley use mine in water under 60-58 degrees, as well as ear plugs (I always wear earplugs anyways). I bought mine last year for IMSG, but didn't use it there (water was low 60's). But I definitley used it here at Lake Mead from February to April, when temps were mid 50's.

Sorry, had a call...so yes, a neoprene cap helps you stay warm in the water, especially since alot of your body heat escapes from your melon...my buddy gripes about the strap being to tight under the chin, but he's just a crybaby anyways. So I'll wear mine if the water temp is 56-58, which just may be the case...

2.5 weeks and a wake up! I will definitley like some cooler race weather...too damn hot here in Vegas!

thedallasceliac - 2012-06-06 2:58 PM Currently, AccuWeather predicts rain on the 24th... but it's kind of far out to be accurate.

I would love rain!!!!!!

Living in Seattle almost all my training has been done in the rain so I would be good to go!!!

729 for me. Looking forward to the day. It's going to be interesting this year.
My bike had a major mechanical issue this past weekend and the end result is the frame is cracked. Fortunately after I put a message on my FB page that I needed to borrow a bike and 3 people offered me their bike within 10 minutes. Test riding one tomorrow.

Neoprene cap is a good idea in water that cold. I'm partial to DeSoto.

I vote for neoprene cap.  Especially because when I left work this evening the clouds were finally breaking (we have had a lot of clouds and rain the last week) and you could see the mountains and there was fresh snow up there.  I have a blueseventy neoprene cap and like it but have not tried others.  Swam in lake cda last night and other than the wind causing waves it wasn't too bad.

I said this same thing to my husband tonight and he laughed at me.  He said, "It's been real for months with all the training you have been putting in!!"

pronghorn - 2012-06-07 8:32 AM 2555 here.

right behind you 2547, it's funny how grown men and women get nervous like the first day of kindergarten when we see our bib numbers. One of the many reasons I do this is it makes me feel like a kid again! I have heard people say you need to grow up. No Thanks I love this feeling of excitement!

Is anyone having their kids do the Iron Kids run on Thursday?  My 7 year old wants to do it and I am wondering if it is a fun event for them?  She is doing her 2nd kids tri next weekend!!!  I cried when she did her first one last year, seeing her loving doing something that I am so passionate about!!

Here is she last year on her bike at Black Diamond Xterra!!

My kids ran it in 2008.  They enjoyed it.  They really enjoyed the medal and water bottle more.  I think they liked being part of the action.
