Asalzwed - 2012-06-08 3:24 AM Hey Yanti,  take as much time off as your body dictates..AHEM

Dammit.

But the Dutch boys are debuting their unique (truly and that's saying a lot in the party world) VJ show tonight. It's only a BIT past midnight. (When they start ... )

I'll see how things go after 8am swim tomorrow.

Edit: today. In three and a half hours.

Well, it's entirely possible to drown in 3" of water, but in my case, unlikely. I also have a whopper headache coming on, so maybe not.

bcraht - 2012-06-06 11:47 PM Ok, Manatees, I'm going to need someone to tell me to settle the eff down.  I have been feeling a bit fatigued this week, didn't do anything yesterday, only my swim today, have been feeling tired too (sleepy I mean).  Possibly doing too much, possibly coming down with something.  Deciding to do the charity HM has been messing with my schedule, and feeling like I have not been getting in enough biking and worrying about the swim and feeling like I SUCK at pacing on the swim and the bike for a HIM distance and I'm 7 weeks out from my HIM...  I can't afford to miss sessions.  Hopefully this is just an anomalous week.  Going away this weekend and didn't really want to pack my bike along (just because it is a bit of a pain in the with the dog crates in the back of the car, hard to open the hatch with the bike carrier, blah blah), but I guess I will be or I will miss another long bike.  Ok, end freak out.

Kirsten, you got this!  You have plenty of time to be ready for your HIM.  Your volume looks great.  It is so normal to have periods of fatigue.  Life happens and some days we are unable to follow the training plan to the book.  I can't tell you how many times I have missed training due to illness, kids, work, lack of motivation, fatigue, ect.....  I wish I could say, I am perfectly trained for this weekends HIM, but truthfully I know I needed more bike time.  Aww heck, I probably needed more of everything, LOL.   It is what it is.  I know I'll finish and you will too.  7 weeks will give you time to ramp up your bike.  If you can try to get in just a few long bike rides, you'll be fine.

As far as the swim, I did not worry about pacing off anyone.  I swam my own pace and concentrated on sighting, breathing, and staying calm.  It was my best swim evah.

So, leave the bike at home and enjoy the weekend.

Alright Manatees, I'm leaving for Kansas tomorrow!  Gulp!  I'm in wave 6 (yeah!!), so I will be starting my race at 6:46am Sunday morning.  Dayum, that's early.

Heh.  Thanks all.  STFD.  I may have that tattoo'ed somewhere.

I am feeling somewhat more settled today.  The weather has been such crap, I suffer when I don't get enough sunlight.  I don't usually use it this late in the spring, but I turned on my S.A.D light this AM, and I think it helped.  I just HATE it when my body says "oh no you can't" when my mind says "put on your big girl panties and deal".  I have to say, i have gotten much better at listening to my body over the past few years, but I don't always love what it is saying.  Somehow, I don't think I am alone in that! Wink

I am going for a nice easy run today, and I'll likely get on the trainer tonight and see how I feel.  If for no other reason than I haven't even tried out my new fit yet!!

Good luck to the racers this weekend!!

ETA: Oh, yeah, maybe some retail therapy helped too.  I bought myself a wetsuit today Laughing

It's almost like we're racing together, except I'll be in the state on the opposite side of Colorado, and I'm going on Saturday, and my race is slightly shorter (ok half!) Wink

Can't wait to track (stalk) you.

For those of you who were getting Jo's intermediate times, how'd you do that?

So some random Salty-thoughts (yum):

The marathon I am doing is going to be a little quirky. We need headlamps for the first 3 miles, then we ditch the headlamps and it is a crushed rock surface. All the reviews say normal shoes/racing flats are fine so that is what I am going to do but they recommend some gaiters. I just bought some but have yet to try them out.

I'm going 100% technology free  (including headphones.) Taking the headlamp off and negotiating a possible water bottle refill might get a little fussy with headphones.

It is a tiny marathon (capped at 400 participants) and the aid stations will be a little sketchy. There will be some manned water stations and some unmanned  where you are responsible for filling up your own bottle.

For this I am thinking of just running with a disposable and then ditch it when I am done and use the sporadic manned stations after that. I dunno...

I can keep gels or whatever I am going to use on my race belt so that is no issue.

Anyway, I guess I am not asking anyone anything specific but maybe read through this and see if there are any red flags.

You have a month to sort it out, right? Well, then you'll have plenty of time to try out the gaiters.

How sketchy/far apart on the manned ones are we talking about? What's your approximate fluid intake at race pace? I assume you're working on gels only and plain water?

Yup, one month...plus I will have time in Mammoth on trails with the gaiters and I plan on running a bit of the actual course just to make the shoes vs racing flats call.

The liquids part is going to be more tricky. "The Aid stations with water, Gatorade, and cups are provided every three miles or so (some are self-serve)" so, it sounds like the cups will be there. I mean, yeah, crappy to have to stop and pour but better than slogging around a bunch of water with me.

In terms of how much water I need at race pace, THAT is tough. For my last half I took in about 20 oz water and probably 12 oz Gatorade. I was just being opportunistic, really. I could have gone with much less. During my training runs I do about 16 oz water and that's it, or honestly sometimes nothing at all. (I know, shame on me)

But this marathon is in July and could be warm...So my answer is I don't know? I guess I could ballpark and say about 24 oz water and a gel or two would suffice.

sounds like your plan would easily accommodate getting that amount of fluids.  If you're not use to the heat, be careful it's easy to get it wrong -either too much or too little water.  I'll wish for a hot summer for Seattle, so you can practice your nutrition
