Champion 7163 Verona WI--Ironman Bike Country! | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Swam in Monona this morning at 6am. The air temp was 52F so getting the wetsuit on was COLD. Once in the water it wasn't too bad since it's still 66F. Treading for extended periods of time might be a little chilly. Those with sleeveless wetsuits were complaining the loudest. Other than that, the sun came up and the water was calm. Perfect for race day! |

Today was nice, very light winds so very little chop. I've now started looking at the weather forecasts and I really believe we'll have a day closer to today than Monday! |

It SUCKED! 1 mile swim took us 48 minutes in Monday's chop. I'm praying very hard for good weather on Sunday! |

I did an hour bike followed by a 30 minute run last night and I had to keep dialing back the run pace. It's weird biking/running on fresh legs!! Edited by DB 2010-09-08 11:25 AM |

Extreme Veteran 444 Olathe, KS | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Inspired by Ironman Wisconsin this weekend (and because it's pretty much all I can think about lately!), I threw together this cheesy little poem. Enjoy! 'Twas the night before Ironman, and in the hotel Not a person was sleeping, and that’s just as well Their bags were all packed with the utmost of care In hopes that all needed gear still would be there But tossing and turning in their beds that night They couldn’t help thinking that all was not right “What have I forgotten?” raced through all their heads While trying to get back to sleep in their beds. Of body glide, of helmets, of wetsuits, and Gu they pictured transition rooms over and through, 'Till finally the clock on the corner struck three And up they all got to rehydrate and pee Before long the racers arrived at the site And all were excited, and some had much fright The signal was given; they swam with much care and hoped that the finish line soon would be there The day would be long with much joy and much strife But all should reflect on this piece of advice: Remember to smile, and not blow your pace Happy IM to all, and to all a good race! |

I almost can't eat now!!!! Well....almost..... Some of your nervousness may calm down after you check your bags and bike in. At that point you have little left to obsess about, it's pretty nice. I've had some pretty calm Saturday nights I think because of this. It also helps to just get away from all of the hype and get dinner away from everyone. |

I know I have been in water that cool, but I can't remember if it bugged my head/ears much. |

Extreme Veteran 981 Maryland | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this cold water talk. Not long ago I thought there was talk of no wetsuits allowed because it was too warm! :-) I didn't pack a neoprene cap. :-) I think IMAZ was 63-66 when I did it, I brought one then but didn't need it. I did at least bring arm warmers, though I doubt I will use them. |

I've been told that you know your ready when you start going nuts in your taper. I am starting to go nuts, but am celebrating every moment of my taper. Had a smile for the whole 45 min run yesterday, and laughed a bit during the breaks in my swim last night (my last pool swim until probably October!) I love taper! My aches and pains have gone away, my workouts are easy and I'm enjoying food again (I was sick of eating). I actually thought about having a gel yesterday ... I miss them. |

It was simply to say, the water is COOL so expect it. I wear a double cap so my goggles don't get kicked off and I wear ear plugs so water stays out of them, but it has nothing to do with the temperature. I agree with Jim, relax, it's all good. Just think how lucky we are that the water isn't 80F with a projected high temp of 90!!! |

Don, you must be going nuts if your craving gels! I am concerned about packing on weight with all the reduced training. I agree it is nice to train with the majority of the aches and pains gone. Sounds like you are ready to go. |

If it's sunny like it was today, tinted. You're fine going out, but coming back you're looking right into the sun. I wore my clear ones today and it was a mistake. |
