serendipity - 2009-10-02 11:39 AM Just went to contract on a house.  Same town we are in now, but bigger and some nice amenities like running water in the winter (don't ask) and closets.  I love getting another house but hate the process of buying it.  Stress and aggravation.  Looks like I'll be relying on BT and training for sanity again.

congrats on the house....and I won't ask about the running water!

notarunnr - 2009-10-02 10:20 AM Good morning team!  Just wanted to let everyone know I am not a slacker(well I am because I am supposed to swim today, but I am just too cold to put on a suit and get in the waterSurprised).  My goal this month is to increase the distance in my runs.  So I have to log 4 runs longer than 6 miles.  My first one is scheduled for Sunday.

For some reason when I go for a long run I get anxiety about half way through that my house has blown up or someone desperately needs my attention........I think it is a mental game.

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend!

we'll get you through! Maybe a taser will get you going long!!

I heard mention of a taser, so here I am.

If the taser doesn't work, you could just run circles around your house.....

kimk - 2009-10-01 8:34 AM I am Kim and I have been doing tri's for 2 yrs. Just finished my season on Sunday with 2nd in my age! First time I have gotten hardware! I want to do a 1/2 mary the beginning of November so this run challenge will do me good! Need to still figure out my goal. Will look at the training plans here or if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them! The longest I have ever run was a 10 mile but that was in June. I have only been doing 5k's since then. So I need to start from there. I am also a fitness instructor at the Y and need to adjust my workouts for when I teach a lot of classes.

Kim, congrats on the AG hardware!!!!

x2~ also kim there is a program I followed called Hal Higden...wanna join us hals gals? he makes it simple to train...just follow his daily program...if you are too late just count backwards from the day of the race and see where you should be....

http://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/index.htm

and my sister who is a marathon runners SWEARS by the run 5min walk 1..run 5 min walk 1...for the entire race...says she totally beats her times of trying to run the whole thing!?! I have trained to run it...so I personally am goint to try and run the entire race!? hoping no walky for me!

I am a big fan of the Hal Higdon plans.  I'm on week 5 of the Novice Half Marathon plan.  Am running the Philadelphia Half in November.

so we have lots of hals gals on this team... Here is a big ol' HIP HIP for hals gals!!!!!

Me too!  I am using the novice HM plan!

Choices choices choices....so what did ya pick Bill?

Kim,

I read and re-read and have kept up to date so far.  Over the weekend might be a different story though

Back from the run - not 1 drop of rain but a nice headwind on the uphill portion so I flew home: Downhill+Tailwind=A Fast Run for Bill at a Low H/R

I probably won't be around much this weekend so try and keep my homework Monday morning down to around 15 pages

Ya for no rain! way to get the run in. I was looking for that tail wind the whole way through my tri last Sunday! Every turn and the wind was in my face, how does that happen???

So I needed to google this to convert it so I could tell what 48 degrees means..haha...this equals 9 degrees C...with rain...BRRRRRRRR!!!!!

I think my Sunday race is going to be raining (possibly snow) with a HIGH of 4 degrees C....and winds about 20km/h....ughhhhhhhhhh...I'm going to have to HTFU!!!!! BRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.....

ugggg is right! Try to stay warm....just keep moving!

willie05 - 2009-10-02 8:18 AM Just found a picture of myself from the Savageman Olympic I did a couple weeks ago that I thought I would share.  I mentioned this in my log that I have a lot of cool aero pictures of myself, but I think this one is now my favorite.  I spent most of this race riding with nobody in sight, and this picture shows that and reminds me of all the lonely training hours:

this is toooo cool! Who takes your pictures?

This is a race picture from the Savageman Olympic two weeks ago.  They had photographers all over the place!

kromanowski - 2009-10-02 12:13 PM So...I have been really bummed because I am going to have to miss out on a 15K I wanted to run on Nov. 1 because of oral surgery.  I have been trying to find a fall race that I can do that is longer then 8K...So there is a 10K on 11/22 but I also wanted to run an 8K on 11/26...Is that too much in 4 days?

just dont go all out and I think its fine.....plus depends on your training...which I dont know yet...do you run quite a bit and are those distances comfortable...and you arent planning on going out and breaking records are you??

So I run 3-4 times per week...right now I am ramping up my mileage... last week 11 miles this week 15...I can run 4 miles very comfortably right now...my 5.5 mile run last week felt good so I am sure that I can do the 8K...I have only run 6 miles once before.  I certainly would not be out to break any records...the 10K would be my first ever so just finishing will make me happy and the 8K will be with my family on Thanksgiving day so more just out to have a good time.

you should be fine...and just think of all the turkey and stuffings that you will not feel guilty eating after the run on Thanksgiving...nothing more fun then running with the family, either.

kromanowski - 2009-10-02 4:56 AM Morning All!  BIG day for us here in Chicago!!!  I know many people here are against us getting the Olympics because of costs, but I guess because I am a south-sider I can see the potential to rejuvenate neighborhoods that have been neglected for years...oh yeah and I happen to love the olympics

sorry Katie...was just watching the news and Chicago was eliminated! I think it would have been great there! my grandmother grew up there and I would have liked to make a trip there to see her old stomping grounds....

obtw...if any of you know who John Phillip Sousa is...my grandmother was asked to perform in a concert in some park in Chicago with him...back in the 30's or 40's! She was a professional whistler...yup there is such a thing! haha ~~she was walking thru the park whistling when Sousa went past...and loved what he heard...he asked her on the spot to come perform with him while he was playing....pretty cool, eh!??

thats one of the coolest stories ive heard.

someone needs to write that as a chapter in a book....

stacieb

I am really trying to find some kind of brochure or hand out that may have been given the day of her performance with him...still searching!!!! would love to frame it and give it to my mom - her only child! my mom would not believe that we could find one!!! she does not know the power of the internet!! haha

what a beautiful gift that will be WHEN you give it your mom, JULES.

may you have successful search!

stacieb

thanks Stacie - my grandparents were my everything...their backyard backed up to the school we went to....I was not supposed to go over there to eat lunch...but I was a baaaad girl and didnt listen...and even though my mom would pack me a nice lunch every day...I would often ACCIDENTLY ON PURPOSE leave it at home...and then when we would go for lunch I would just excuse myself with out asking or getting permisson and walk thru the playground...and just jump over the fence and go to thier backyard...my mammaw never shooed me back to the school...and she would always make me such an amazing hot lunch! it was like she was expecting me....and I think she was! I must admit...I did this more then once....

a week! haha
