Elite 3683 Whispering Pines, North Carolina | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Good Luck, ryceelliott. I'd have to kill myself if I had to bail this close to the race...Many don't realize the commitment it takes to get to this point. I'd feel like the last 6 months were a waste. I can't start a packing list this early...2 weeks out is more like it. Gotta nail down nutrition, though. Time is of the essence. BTW, looked at the AG results for M35-39 for IMKY 2009. I guess everyone in that AG is superfit and more than half come in sub 12. Damn. Edited by tri_d00d 2010-07-29 8:06 PM |

Expert 1149 CenTex | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread ryce, Best of luck! FWIW, I have not been able to run for the past 17 days due to a large biopsy (33 stitches req'd) and the healing process, but feel like I have enough in the tank to get it done. I have adjusted my goals somewhat but still feel good about the race. I was out at HH with some friends tonight (to see Guy Forsythe free @ Shady Grove, for those local to ATX) and was talking to someone about the race. It was the first time that I realized that I feel ready and excited about it! The more I talked about the race, the more excited I got! Bring it on! I won't have the race that I thought I would 8 months ago but still feel great about the rest of the journey! Good luck to all over the next month! |

Will the course have any practice swims? Or a open swim course? Doesn't look like there's gonna be an "official" practice swim, but Bob from the Louisville group on IAmTri.com has been organizing Ohio River swims on Saturday mornings before the bike course ride. Or just grab a friend or two and jump in whenever you want; you can start at the docks next to Tumbleweed and swim back & forth between Towhead Island. The island is about 1/2 mile in length so back&forth is a mile. |

I'm coming up w/my nephew, who's also racing, on Wednesday late and we're looking to swim a couple of times, if possible. ETA: or coordinate... Edited by cornchexs 2010-07-29 11:18 PM |

Expert 1023 Ft Gordon, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Destroyer - 2010-07-29 8:06 PM De Soto just released their WTC legal non rubberized speedsuit that can be worn as a trisuit. Great option for people that want something extra in the water. No pockets though. http://www.desotosport.com/products/product.asp?Category=messentials&ProdID=LF1 Lurker here, but thought I could offer something of value on the comment above: I bought this suit (the 2011 Liftfoil) a few weeks ago after speaking to Emilio about it. It is AWESOME! I have rode for over two hours in it and ran in it as well with no problems at all. Felt super! I have not swam in it yet as I only have a very chloriinated pool here to swim in and do not want to kill it before next year! Not sure that I would do a full IM in it, definitely up to a HIM in it, but I think I will do the swim and bike in it next year (if I get into IM Lou) and then change for the run (I'm in no danger of Kona/podium placing!). Supposed to be great for the swim as it is a fast suit without pockets and the bike pad is a legal floatation device as well. |

Elite 3658 Roswell, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread hrliles - 2010-07-29 9:44 PM Does anyone have a good list they go by. On an EXCEL spreadsheet. I do IMKY in 4 weeks and Im afraid Im just gonna walk out and leave stuff. If you have done this and created a list , man, I would be grateful if you could send it to me. Also, any pointers on things you wish you had taken and didn't? Thanks, I copied this from the main IM board, but thought it would be better to start talking about it here because the list is Lou specific. This is my rough draft for my packing list. It's really just my list from B2B iron distance last year that I am editing. I don't know how the bags work at Lou, so this could change a bit. One thing I like to do is fill ziplock bags with tums, advil, butt butt'r, vaseline, bandaids, bio-freeze, etc and stick them in most of my bags. I think of the baggies as my "the has hit the fan" bags for when unexpected problems. What are some things others like to bring? Edited by brown_dog_us 2010-07-30 6:09 AM |

Regular 118 Marietta, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread The verdict is in, patellar tendonist. Race is still doable, but the next 4 weeks will be heavy duty anti inflamitories and aqua jogging. From my point of view, that is good news. My run on race day may still be a walk, but it is better than the alternative. |

My run on race day may still be a walk, but it is better than the alternative. Well that is good news. Could have been something worse. I had a stress fracture during marathon training several years ago, and I had to aqua jog for weeks. I was so worried I was losing run fitness because it really doesn't seem like you're doing much in the water. But on race day, I ended up having a great race and it didn't seem to have any negative impact on my pace. I think it's a much better workout then it seems. The only thing is, it's kind of boring. If you have a waterproof MP3 player, it helps. |

I said that last week in Va Beach with 105 degree and index into mid 110's. Today was a real confidence builder, mid to upper 80s in AM low 90s early afternoon. 113 miles on the bike, 2.8 running off the bike, couple hour break and then a 3450 swim. Tired as hell. |

This included 3 centuries and several long runs. Today was a mammoth 3.8K swim, 130 mile bike and 3.4 mile run for good measure. Other than the fact is was in the high 70's I felt great. I just wish it was hotter but 130 on the bike is 130. |

Regular 118 Marietta, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Today was to be the last long ride, but due to a mechanical, the ride was over rather quickly. My question is this, do I try to make up this ride next weekend? Or just forget about is and follow the rest of the training schedule? I have a couple of centuries done, so that is not a concern, but I'm worried about my training peaking too soon. All advice is welcome |

Member 77 Austin | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Haven't checked in for a while. Have enjoyed reading everyone's posts. Some of you have done an AMAZING amount of trainnig. I'm on the BT 20 week Beginner IM so others here on that will know the workouts I reference. Our plan had 5 "MONSTER WORKOUTS" on it. They fell on Saturdays. Four down, one more to go. Yesterday was one of them. I have been doing them as 3 workouts back to back as opposed to trying to break them up (given that they already take the whole day to do). Yesterday in the lake I swam 2.5 miles in 1:15 (right on track with what I'd like to do in the race). Rode 112 miles at 17.5mph (faster than I should do I think in the race). 8,000' of climbing. Then ran 30 minutes. For the first time I was able to do the run on the end without having to walk and without my HR spinning up and out of control on me. This has been an issue throughout and I think it is related to nutrition (and too much effort on the bike). I was slow, but don't care. If I can run slowly as opposed to walk fast, I'm pretty sure I'm better off in the race. I live in Austin so finding heat and humidity to train in has not been an issue. I started yesterday at 6:45am and finished at 4:45PM (had water stops on the bike, a flat, and SLOW transitions). It was 98 degrees when I finished with a heat index of 102. No telling what the temperature right over the pavement (where we spend our time) was. But it was cooking, thats for sure. So, as long as Louisville is something less than 100 degrees, I think I'll be ready! I don't expect the marathon to be pretty, and I don't expect it to be fast, but my hope is that I can find that rhythm, drop my big slow self into a low gear and just grind my way through 26 1-mile jogs. I'm learning a key for me is to go VERY EASY on the bike. Even trying to do so yesterday I realized around mile 80 that I hadn't gone easy enough on the first 40-50. I have to remember its not how fast "can" I ride 112 miles, its how fast "should" I ride 112 miles given that I have a marathon to run. This takes discipline. We have one more "MONSTER" workout next Saturday. It will be 2.5 mile open water swim, 112 mile bike, followed by 1:15 run. Thats going to be a real challenge. One more chance to dial in my bike nutrition (which is still a wreck) and also one more shot at dialing back the bike effort to save the energy for the run. Four weeks from today, friends. Four weeks from today. Stay safe and healthy, be strong, and remember to have fun while we're doing this. Brian |
