PennState - 2010-05-06 5:17 PM I just ordered a new wetsuit today. Pretty excited what wetsuit are you folks using?

Xterra Vortex 3 (sleeveless)
Blue Seventy Reaction (full

Just got the Blue Seventy a couple weeks ago off the classifieds on BT, so I've yet to test it out, but it fits ;-

I use a De Soto 2 piece system.  A 5mm Speed Tube lower and a smart1 top.  I like the 2 piece design, easy to get in and out of and doesn't bind up in the shoulders.  I think they are great for taller people.

My new suit is a zoot fuzion (2009) I did a semi-foolish thing and bought one down a size hoping I'm going to lose the weight I plan on. I'm debating if I should just put faith in myself or exchange for the XL. What do you guys think? I'm currently 25lbs more then the top range of the LargeShort. I was able to put the suit on and zipper it so it might be OK. It's also a long sleeve which I've never used. My old one is a sleeveless blueseventy which is likely going to be too big to wear.

I found that each suit fits so different and that sizing is a guideline but not much more then that. How does the suit feel?  Have you been able to test it out in the water?  Since you aren't used to having sleeves that will feel different and a bit more constricting at first.. If you feel that it fits ok  then I would stick with it. Once it gets wet, it will loosen up a bit.  The first time I tried my wetsuit on at home it took me almost a half hour to get it on. I called my friend and told her I would never be able to do the race (first race ever) because I couldn't get the wetsuit on. Now I am able to get it on in a reasonable amount of time. That comes with practice I think. Anyway, I say have faith in yourself. If you feel that it might be OK then I bet it will be. Smile

Are you training for an IM? I would say that you should have a suit that fits you good. A suit that it too tight or pushes down on your shoulder will tire you out quicker in a race. I bought my suit in the larger recommended size and I'm glad. The first OWS I did I didn't pull it up really good and it really tired my shoulders down as it pulled down on my shoulders. In my first race I had my friend help me get my suit pulled up  snug in my crotch area and it gave me a good amount of room in my shoulders. It helped a ton. I would recommend that you make sure that your suit is pulled up as far as you can get it up so you have movement in your shoulders.

I have a 19 sleeveless, but I am planning on getting a new suit with sleeves possibly before Keuka (cold water) but definately before IMFL (jellyfish).

WittyCityGirl - 2010-05-06 4:02 PM Dr said I tore my obliques!  Man, I said I wanted shredded abs, but this isn't quite what I meant. Wink  So, that's actually good news. Smile He said it could have been a much worse situation being a 20-something female where the pain is. Frown

Even better... doc is into duathlons!  He said he knew I wouldn't behave by just lying around until I healed up, so he said continue to do aerobic activity that doesn't aggravate it and take pain meds as needed. Woot woot!

So, I took today off and I'll just take it easy.  Guess I gotta scrap the stretching that I was doing for my hip flexors because he thinks that's where the trouble started from.

Thanks for all the kind thoughts today!

Glad it is not something more serious! Rest up and you'll be back to 100% soon.

GRB1 - Planning on getting in one longer ride (50-60) this weekend as well.

Sounds like a great ride!! Do you do these long rides solo or with groups?

Long rides are generally solo, good for getting mentally ready for the IM.

Yeah same here. Probably 90% of mine are solo

Got another 24 mile ride in this morning. This will probably be my last longer ride until my sprint next weekend. I have an OWS tomorrow morning that we'll probably do 2000 m at. A 5k run either today or tomorrow. Maybe both days, who knows.

Hope everyone had a great day of training. Good luck with all races this weekend.

Great looking ride Fred! All that climbing will pay off huge!

I would like to ride this weekend, maybe look at the rental or maybe, since I am out here so much I'll just get my own.  Otherwise I am relegated to the hotel recumbent.

Looks like I'll be riding this weekend as well. Official HIM training plan starts tomorrow with an 8 mile run followed by a 3 hour ride on Sunday. The run will be no biggie but it looks like Sunday will be my longest ride ever. Glad I'm well rested and ready to go after Wildflower.

I'm starting to realize that Vineman is only 10 weeks away so it's time to get serious!

Great ride! I hope the weather permits me to get mine in this weekend, looking at 40 degrees and rain, not fun.

IMO 10 weeks is plenty of time! Take it slow and easy and make sure you get to that starting line
