Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Posting from the phone in the middle of West Texas. Challenging day in a lot of ways. Swim time was way off. Very windy bike and hot run. I was able to move up in my AG as the race went on. Got an IV with 2 bags after the race. Will post a race report when we get home. Thanks for the support. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jen: Yay! Sounds like you had a great race! Jason: That is an amazingly fast race of the HIM. Congratulations again! Rene: Sounds like it was a tough one. Can't wait for the details! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey everyone. Great races to those who raced. I'm reading reports now. Rene -- nice job in tough conditions! I might be about to get in trouble on BT -- if so, sorry! (Veiled threats from a moderator for being 'mean', and all. I thought it was just honesty.) |

I wasn't very, um, diplomatic, in my post, and I do genuinely regret that. On the other hand, I stand by the basic point that if you t-bone somebody at 25mph, yelling explicatives at them -- even if you think it is their fault -- is not the appropriate response. All in all, the story doesn't ring true for me, but even if the basic points are accurate, why post what amounts to an attack on an injured person? Nobody comes out of an accident like that uninjured. Yes, I could have said so in a more appropriate way, and I regret not having done so. I was chastised by a moderator publicly and privately, so I guess we'll see... |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Definitely had a different perspective after your breakdown. I can see how his initial story should have done more damage than he said there was.

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Michael-interesting thread about the wreck. Seems like it became a bit of a mess but nice job on clarifying your points. What's everyone doing this week. My volume will be down a bit from the past 2 weeks. Swim at lunch and easy spin this evening. Randy |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Blanda - 2012-06-24 11:51 PM Definitely had a different perspective after your breakdown. I can see how his initial story should have done more damage than he said there was. Well, my basically accusing him of lying was not very nice. I apologized for that part. I do admit that I still find it hard to believe that things went down just as described. But regardless of that issue, what really got at me was the basic tone of the post (not that mine was any better...) -- "I slammed into someone at 25mph from behind; I hope my bike is OK". Anyway, good morning all! What's happening today? I'm facing (actually, avoiding!) a mountain of work, but will try for a run and swim. Rene, I guess you're traveling home. Sounds like a tough day out there, but also sounds like you fought the good fight! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Oh, I forgot to mention weigh-in! I have a bit of an unnatural result today, because my digestive problems really flared up yesterday and I barely ate, but had no problem, um, 'un-eating'. So I came in 137, but I'm pretty sure I'll rebound to more like 139-140, which is about where I want to be at this point. Hoping for 135 by the beginning of race week (like Rene, I'll gain a couple of pounds just prior to race day, which is pretty common). |
![]() ![]() |
Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 149 even for me weight wise. Might drop a pound or two but I am pretty happy right here. Michael, I am 5' 7" as well but I think it is very unlikely that I will ever see the 130s again. My wife is already making noises that I am too skinny. I just carry around a little more muscle than is probably ideal for triathlon. I am skinnier than I have been since wrestling days but I don't think I ever will cut down to 126 again (my insane high school wrestling weight). |

I was chastised by a moderator publicly and privately, so I guess we'll see... I made a BT forums blunder a couple years ago. I think I was right but my post still put me in the wrong. I was contrite. I apologized. Everyone got over it. I have largely avoided repeating my mistake. I am sure you will weather this just fine. While I agree with your point about yelling at the person, I suspect it was something along the lines of, "WHAT THE EFF WERE YOU THINKING?" which I think many of us might make the mistake of doing in the heat of the moment. It is not always the easiest thing to keep your head when the adrenaline (and the blood?!?!) is really flowing. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It's a good thing the moderators haven't seen my FB page in the last two weeks ;-) Michael... after 6500 posts, of which at least 6000 are helpful (and the other 500 had that great red font), I would think you'd be allowed a mulligan or two. Frankly, I'm surprised anyone said anything. They should check out Washington Post comments now and then to get some perspective. On more mundane topics, the weather in Florida has been a blast (literally). Hopefully headed back north tomorrow with Mom for a family reunion. Randy, are you getting pounded by Debbie as well? Great job, racers... hope to read the race reports shortly! Stu Edited by juneapple 2012-06-25 4:56 PM |

Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi all! going back a little on this thread, Sacramento has Eppie's Great Race® known as "The World's Oldest Triathlon®", "The Great Race", the "No Swim" Triathlon is the largest paddling event in the United States! http://www.eppiesgreatrace.org/ it's a huge race here in July. Haven't read the race reports yet, but good job to you all having done more races. I've just signed up to do another sprint triathlon in Sept. nice thing is that it's the same location as where I did the 1st tri. same length of swimming (.5 miles) / the bike is 4 miles longer (20 miles) and the run is 1 mile longer (4 miles) I get to try again on being consistent in workouts. I just went to a national convention for a non-profit charity organization I love being in. was honored with an award - Outstanding Mission Statement Representative = It's for one who embodies the mission statement "Active 20-30 US & Canada provides young adults with an opportunity for personal growth, friendships and leadership development while improving the quality of life for the special needs children in their community." was very touched by it and i hope you don't mind my sharing |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Having gotten to know your personality a bit, Michael, my instant thought was that something within his post really touched a nerve with you, and as you've mentioned it did. I see it as two guys having a discussion at this point as the OP seems to not be offended at all and continues to stand by his actions. Should work itself right out. Michele, congratulations to you for your awesome achievement! Please share all cool things like that here. That's pretty darned awesome. Yay for another race! Have fun training for it! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Michele-that is quite an honor. Congrats on such a great accomplishment. Stu-read up a bit over the weekend on the UVA mess. To me it sounds like the University Presdient got railroaded with the Board looking to put costsavings over quality. We have not felt much of Debby. Its been windy and hot but relatively clear. Looks like most of the rain and severe weather is east of the storm. Blanda-good job Mama Bear. Weight...I'm at 158 which is my lowest in 20+ years. Before I started doing triathlon I weighed around 178-180. Most exercise was weight lifting with some occasional running or old man soccer. I'm sure alot of the weight loss has been muscle as I do no upper body work anymore (other than 100 push ups each day) and legwork is limited to running/biking. Not really trying to lose weight but as training volume goes up so do number of calories burned. This gives me a good excuse to eat a bowl of ice cream or some tasty snack after dinner....trying to do better but I have a bad sweet tooth. Randy

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 2 days in a row for me with no s/b/r. I'm going through withdrawals. Long days at the hospital, 15 hours today. Fortunately this a a rare occurrence. I'm plugging through and will be back to it hopefully tomorrow if things let up. Jim |

Sounds like you kept your attitude good and kept moving forward, no matter what the race threw at you. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Morning all -- and a very big congrats to Michelle for the award. Blanda -- I hope the kiddo is doing better today. Sick children are heartbreaking to see. Rene -- tough race in tough conditions! Cool that you met Jessica Jacobs. And the actual race was a really impressive effort. I'm sorry you ended up in the med tent. Hot + dry is pretty dangerous for those of us who aren't used to it, even if we understand heat. I hope everyone has a good day. My stomach has been a mess the past two days, but I'm feeling better this morning, and hoping for a ride and swim. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Rene-IMFL should seem like a breeze compared to BSLT. You did well on a tough course in diffficult conditions. Good job. Busy day at work for me so I was up early for intervals on the treadmill. Tonight is 45 minutes on the bike. Summer is here in South Alabama...its HOT!!!! Randy |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Emergency case last night kept me up until about 2 AM. Things like this really put a damper on my 5:30 AM swim plans. I hope things finish up here at work in a reasonable way so I can get in a short swim this evening. I am feeling a little run down. It isn't the training. It is the return to work and the abbreviated sleep schedule that goes with it. I often wonder what I could do if I had just a little more time to train, sleep and recover....... A guy can always dream, right? |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jason -- I admit, I fantasize about having no responsibility other than a 9-5 job and training. I don't really want that life -- I love the one I have -- but I do wonder what I could do if I could train more predictably. So I had an interesting experience the other day that I haven't mentioned. My in-laws gave me a belated b-day present -- a Garmin 110. I had a 305 for a couple of years, and my attitide towards it evolved from "training novelty" to "training necessity" to "crutch" to "I hate you but I love you" to "I am now throwing you into a lake". I mentioned none of this to my in-laws and just said 'thanks' with, I hope, the appropriate enthusiasm. I was (and remain) skeptical of its accuracy. A friend of mine asked me a couple of months ago to be a second pair of eyes on his run training, and he sends me the Garmin files, which I think are inaccurate. Still, I needed a new HRM (recently decided to switch back from RPE to HRM though I'm not ignoring RPE) and the 110 does that, so I started wearing it. Today I tried out the Strava web site. Has anybody here tried it? I found it a bit difficult to navigate, but maybe you get used to it with use. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Rene- way to push through and get the race done! Enjoyed your race report! Good run last night, kept it in Z2 the whole time. I am pretty slow in the swim/run category but do have good endurance. In the last 6 months I have run nearly as much as I have for the entire year in 2011. I'm nearly through the busiest week of work I've had all year, and am excited to start ramping up again for IM AZ. I am pleased that I have been able to maintain my base over the last month post IM Texas. Looking forward to getting back to the pool. My swim volumes have been minimal this month and that is my own fault as I have been sleeping in due to long days at the job. I too fantasize about taking a year off work, hiring a coach, and seeing what I am capable of doing. Looking into racing for a charity at my next IM. I used to use the Janus Charity Challenge but unfortunately they no longer exist at IM events. Anyone have any recommendations or experience with other charity support programs? Jim |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It looks like several of us have some dreams about what we could do given enough time... I buy the occasional lottery ticket with this in mind ![]() I am on a 24 hour shift today. Hopefully there will be some down time. Got my run in early today. It was nice and cool outside. Getting up at 4:45 was not fabulous but the run was. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Nice job on the running Jim! It will surely serve you well at IMAZ. I'm hoping for a good ride today. I just started playing around on the Strava web site, and there are a couple of KOMs that I need to pick up! Lol. |
