Coach wanted some big workouts from me so I think I logged about 7 1/2 hours of workouts. . Bill SWEET ride !!! Congrats! Hope you all had a good weekend! I am continuously amazed at how much work all of you get done! My friends and family think I get a lot of training in, but it pales in comparison to what many of you get done! So well done, Brian, even if you had to push back the basement project. On another note, here's my latest IM Louisville blog entry: http://beakersironmanjourney.blogspot.com/2013/02/hopes-and-fears.h... Enjoyed my rest day today, back at it tomorrow! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Meulen - 2013-02-18 9:22 PM Thanks Becky! I have too many hobbies! TRi trumps everything though, well......except for my wife! Lol. Other things seem to take me forever to do. I've still got a couple RC airplanes in boxes waiting to get built. I've got a single speed project bike I gave to my dad to ride as is right now till I be time to convert it! I've got another mountain bike un built here and the basement! I finally got rid of all my motorcycles and racing stuff because I didn't have time to keep working on them. I actually hired a guy to build that AR-15 because I know I'll never get to it. I'm terrible at biting off more than I can chew so it doesn't feel like I get a lot done on the weekends. ![]() One thing I will say for my wife is that she keeps me pretty straight on my priorities. I used to be one with too many projects, but she puts her foot down and keeps me grounded and helps me realize what I can or will be able to do. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() jennifer65 - 2013-02-18 4:54 AM So Brian - was that your wife's carbon bike or someone elses ?- cause that could be awkward. I don't know if it was the falls yesterday or the swimming last night but my shoulders really ache today - so I'm putting in a rest day and rearranging my planned sessions for later in the week. Maybe I am really too old for all this. Mind you, saying that - once i was clipped in yesterday it definitely made me a little quicker I think ![]()
Jennifer, If you still have pain in your shoulders in a day or so I would go get it checked out. You could have a hairline fracture. You don't want to train through that or put that off. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, mother nature teased me this weekend. It was warming up nicely, sunny, light breezes and zero. Now that I have to do my long run outside it is -26 with a -39 windchill. Amazing how the weather can change in 24-48 hours. I am really looking forward to my 3 weeks in South Texas. I just hope it warms up a bit for the Hypothermic Half Marathon this Sunday. The pool was closed on Monday for Louis Riel Day so I did a nice bike workout on the trainer. I went and saw Die Hard and then caught up on some laundry and housework and a weeks worth of pvr TV shows. |

Congrats! Hope you all had a good weekend! The longer weekday stuff can be a challenge at times, but the real long stuff for IM training usually comes on the weekends. My wife doesn't mind me being out training, but I still try and get started early so I can get done early and help out around the house or get an afternoon on the lake with her. |

Ken-I had trouble getting moving this morning too. Good job getting on the bike & getting it done! Opted to do my run after I dropped off the kids instead of before to avoid going out into the cold. Headed to the pool this afternoon, hoping its a little better than my running has been going the last couple of days. My lungs are feeling better, but 2 weeks off has left my legs DEAD. They aren't sore, I just think they've forgotten how to move! ![]() |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I registered for the Chicago Marathon today!!!!! The registration process was a complete fiasco, took several hours just to get to the payment part and as soon as I sent payment it timed out on me. I had to call the credit card company to see if it went through. However, I wasn't the only one with problems and shortly after I registered they shut down the site for a few hours. I heard 30,000 people registered in the first 2 hours! Probably will sell out soon if anyone was planning on running it. The fact that I am actually going to have to run a marathon hasn't sunk in yet |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Becky, read you post and really liked it. It got me thinking about last year's IM training and the lingering benefits. Even though I may be one-and-done in terms of 140.6 (but probably not, who am I kidding...) The training for it is the gift that keeps on giving. Building up to ~20 hr training weeks not only gives a physical base that transfers over to meeting new and different goals, but really changes your outlook on what you can accomplish with limited time and resources. I was thinking about this on the way home on this morning's run. Getting up at 4AM for a 2hr run before work really isn't a thing anymore. I still miss workouts for various bad reasons, but hitting them doesn't seem like much of a chore these days. If you told me that would be the case two years ago, I would have had a good laugh. Keep on truckin! |

Keep on truckin! Thanks, Bill! That is the approach I'm trying to take--if I'm not exercising, it's likely I'll be home sitting on the couch being unproductive. So I think this whole journey will teach me better time management skills and help reduce my procrastination! And congrats, Robin! The local running group I belong to has Chicago as a goal trip this year, and so many of them were frustrated with the process yesterday with the Active site going down. Not sure how many of them did not get in yet. I have run Chicago twice, and it is probably my favorite marathon. It was my second marathon and I had a great run and a great experience; then I also ran it in 2007 during the "melt-down" year where the temp was 88 degrees and they actually cancelled it halfway through. I had a really bad run that year, but still think of it as my favorite marathon venue. You will love it! Make sure to put your name in large letters on the front of your shirt, and it will feel like you have a personal cheering section for 26.2 miles! |

That was certainly an interesting day! Out on the course they have police and helicopters telling people to walk to get on a bus, I would run between intersections where the police were staged. Aid stations ran out of about everything, and I guess that was even worst behind me. But when you make the turn towards the finish line, it was like none of that was happening. The music was playing, the crowds were cheering and the announcer was calling the finishers! Weird! And if I ever get over my IM addiction, I would certainly like another crack at that race!! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks Brian - I will definitely ask if I have questions about the area! I can only pray it won't be 88 degrees for the marathon - 24 degrees would be ok though!
Had a brutal skate ski class last night - hill repeats w/o polls - my legs are shattered and it was supposed to be a rest week. Edited by robingray_260 2013-02-20 10:52 AM |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have a silly training-obsession question... My plan calls for two swim sessions a week right now, but I've been doing three since that's my weakest discipline. The swim for tonight is cancelled because we have our triathlon club meeting. Saturday I have the choice of either making up the swim I'm missing, or sticking with my scheduled bike session. I don't think I can fit in both because I have to head out of town for my half marathon. Should I make up the swim or just stick with the scheduled bike and not worry about the missed swim? Decisions, decisions... |
![]() ![]() |
Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Robin- I can tell you it will be between -20 degrees and 100! LOL It's Chicago!! Becky- IMO.....I would do the bike and add the swim only if you can. Adding a swim somewhere is almost always a good idea as long as it doesn't effect your other training. Bikes and runs tend to be more taxing on the body and need more careful scheduling. Plus, skipping a swim doesn't hurt you as much as skipping bikes/runs. |
