Speaking of apps. I am currently using Runkeeper for logging but I am not sure if I want to continue with it, I am feeling kinda meh about it and would like to hear if there is something else that would work better. I know Strava and Endomondo (spelling?) are common ones, I have tested them out but not in a while. What do people use and what do you enjoy?

I am also on Fitocracy... not that I use it much though... I should be better about actually getting some strength and core work out in...

All this App talk is making me hungry, Ill take an order of Jalepeno poppers and a pound of suicide wings.......

Today was a lot of fun. I finally pulled the trigger and bought a brand new car - I was hoping to get a used car but there weren't a lot of models to choose from that had all the features I was looking forward. Hating the car I had been driving since 2008, my wife and I decided to spend an extra grand and buy a smaller brand new car that had all the features we wanted. So we got a Honda Fit - and I LOVE IT!!! It took 6 hours of haggling but we got the dealership to give us a good deal.

And thanks to the kick in the butt from a bunch of BDASers - I made it to the gym tonight and am hoping to make it back tomorrow for a swim and a little aqua jogging.

Did you all see the SNL special? Hysterical!

Nice! enjoy the new car! I test drove a fit a few years ago and really liked it.

Been dragging my a$$ lately on SBR folks, We have started reno's in our basement and it has just been too bloody cold here to do much of anything! Still playing some hockey and doing hikes in the snow, but my goal is to get some SBR going regularly, at least once a week for each. Tonight, Ill be hitting our little gym at work and tomorrow night will be a swim night.

Since Chris was nice enough to post those 'lovely pictures' of his bike ride, I thought I would throw up our monthly temperatures here for FEB, so you can see what I am dealing with. I know Thor has similar conditions going out west most likely, but its got to be one of the coldest februarys I have ever experienced. Also this is in the celsius scale for all you 'Muricans'

That graphic is too small to read really, not sure how to resize it, but it has been -20 degrees celcius or below for the month of February so far, lovely weather for freezing exposed skin.

That's fantastic! Now that you've built a great base - it won't take you all that long to reach 1500m!

Nicole,
Nice work on that superset! I really need to get back into doing that sorta stuff. Maybe I'll give yours a shot later today. Now...where did I put that bucket for when I puke... LOL!!!

Veggies!!!
Wife wanted subway last night. So we shared a 12" Veggie Delight. That's 9 veggies in one sandwich! Plus the avacado for breakfast and banana as a snack. 11/15!!
I'll rock a smoothie at some point to finish that off.

Does anyone "juice"? I have a juicer, and used to make juice several times a week. I think I'll try and get back into that as well.
Here was my standard juice recipe:
2 large carrots
1/2 beet
1 hand full spinach
2 celery stalks (optional, as they are sometime a pain to clean out of the juicer. Stringy.)
1 Apple
1 Orange
1 Lemon

Warning:
You will poop bright red after having beets. Don't panic. :D

I have a juicer but switched to a NutriBullet - LOVE IT! You don't lose the fiber in the NutriBullet like you do with juicing. I couldn't always use the pulp left behind in the juicer - sometimes I could, but not always so I felt I was missing something. We make smoothies sometimes twice a day and throw anything in it. I love it, my kids love it for fruit smoothies and sometimes I'll make shakes in it for them. Great for a quick frozen margarita too!

Shirt - I think 5 and 2. I agree "powered by hops" might be better on the pockets if possible and recenter the guy.
Another idea is take idea 2 for the front and #5 for the back.
Let's get some bright shirt colors so those cars can see us!

Had PT today so 3/? maybe I'll get a spin on the trainer tonight but looking doubtful at this point.
Looks like possible cortisone shot for the knee. PT is sending me out to have it looked at with more mechanized contraptions to make sure he's not missing anything. I've never had anything linger this long before. Hubby is against cortisone shots - because once you start, it never ends. Hmmm

Veggies - had a smoothie this morning and added broccoli to it so I'm at 12/15. I'm liking this challenge because at first I thought it'd be tough but now I'm seeing the variety I'm actually taking in so I'm feeling a little better about food choices.

Someone mentioned Vitamin D - totally use it here. My chiropractor takes 4,000 ius in the winter months - I take 2,000 and feel the benefits. I don't take it everyday - only the cloudy days. Of course we live in 9 months of darkness here in VT (Burlington is apparently the 2nd most cloud-covered city), so depression - or weather induced depression, however you want to look at it is high. Vitamin D seems to give me energy and keep me happy. LOL

No training today. Ice storm knocked down power all over town. Now we're at the hospital because my oldest has had a stomach virus for 48 hours and is dehydrated enough to need iv fluids. So it's not looking like a workout will happen tomorrow. But at least the hospital has electricity. Our house still doesn't. Training vicariously through all of you guys!!

Juan - Next time you head out of business, try this: buy a nice bottle of red wine and give it to the person at the desk and tell them to only give it to you if you come back sweaty from a run. That'll get you going. Travel safe!

Good evening everyone, and Happy Presidents' Day!

Shirt vote #5 then #4.

Last week ended on a sour note. I don't know how it happened, but I managed to get sick over the internet. After reading about all of you guys getting sick, I came down with a nasty upper respiratory/chest cold, so thanks guys. Ended up skipping my long run because of the cough. Then Sunday was consumed finishing an assignment for my grad class, so I bailed on my long ride. Total CLP on that one.

However, today started a new week and I took advantage of the day off and the nice weather and headed north to St. Petersburg to explore the Pinellas Trail, a rails to trails project. After a little confusion at the start, I managed to get 41 miles in with only about 4 of those on the roads. I may have found my new favorite route.

DQ - Thanks for keeping things rolling. Weekly challenges, monthly challenge, shirt design, Spotify playlist, MyFitnessPal group... thanks again!

Moonrocket - A vegetable challenge, really? Are you my wife?

Kevin - Congrats on getting your foot in the door.

Since Jimmy Buffett didn't make the playlist, I thought I'd leave you with a little tidbit from the master of Margaritaville, along with some pics from today's ride.

The weather is here I wish you were beautiful
The skies are too clear life's so easy today
The beer is too cold, the daiquiri's too fruitiful
No place like home when you're this far away

Chris

Ahh Chris - I thought when you joined the group - you promised not to post pictures or mention anything about the beautiful weather down there. Don't make me give you a CLP but with 90 inches of snow this winter up here - I just might have to!

Just checking in...

After dropping my wife and daughter off at school - I hit the gym for 600 yards of swimming and aquajogging. I've been swimming for 6 years now - but my new program calls for using a buoy... so awkward. How the hell do you keep the thing between your legs? (I've been ask the same question ) Seriously - I know nothing about swimming. The guy in the lane next to me had a book - swim exercises for triathletes - and I love the fact that it's waterproof. If I wanted to ask for a great book that will help my swimming - which one do you think I should put on my list?

When I got home, I spent almost 2 hours getting snow and ice off my porch. Snow was piled high - over the railings - and maintenance was worried that it might collapse. So it took almost 45 minutes to get most of the snow off - but that was only the beginning. After I shoveled off the snow - I was left with more than a foot of ice. I chipped away at it for more than an hour with an ax until one of the guys came down with the a power chisel. It was awesome. With that tool - we were done in 10 minutes. Thank god - I I would still be working on it!

One last thing - ok 2... really 3 things...

1) Tomorrow is the last day to vote for your favorite 2 designs for the bike shirt. On Thursday - we will narrow it down from 3-1.

2) This group is so awesome! You guys are killing it with all your posts, the challenges, and the great support you are giving to one another. With so many people in the group it would be really helpful if everyone would remember to sign off each of their posts with their name (I need to remember to do this myself) or better yet - put your name in your signature (I just changed mine). Also, keep replying to each other's posts. Each of us are on our own journey and we all need a cheering squad rooting us one. Please make it your goal to support each other as much as you can with reply posts or inspires! Finally - feel free to share info that will help the group get to know you better. We are all triathletes but we each have unique lives - and sharing fun details about what's happening with you will make the group more fun.

3) I didn't see anyone throwing out a theme for the week. Any ideas?

Haha! Welcome to my world, Dave! I have been doing all of my swim workouts with a leg buoy until my knee is right! Yup - 2000 yards with it. They do tend to slip out and I yank it back when I'm in a flip turn - makes the turn a bit slow but it's very doable. One of the gyms I go to has a couple different kinds - one side is much thicker than the other side. I put that side toward my front so it's under me while swimming. It wants to float but because the bigger side is under me it's much easier to hold. The regular ones I'm fixing every hundred yards or so as it slips. LOL A pain but my stroke is much more balanced now that's for sure and it's much easier to work on bilateral breathing too.

I did not find the buoy too hard to use at all, I just used the communal pool ones and it was basically two short sections of a pool noodle attached by straps, I liked how you could really max out your arms, and then when you took them off and did another 10-20 laps you feel like you are flying because you have your leg power back!

They are also really usefull to help you get used to a proper body position in the pool, a lot of people drag their legs around like two anchors, when in fact they should be just barely under the surface, I also find it useful to imagine you have a beach ball under your chest and you are constantly trying to push your chest down, this brings up your legs into the proper position as well.

Huh....how about that. I have been using that style of buoy wrong. I'll try it your way next time. I've been swimming with the big end on top.

Snow today cancelled my daughter's gymnastics. That threw off my habit of exercising for an hour while I wait for her. On the plus side, I got a hair cut so I should now me more streamlined when swimming. ;-)

I'm at 4/15 for vegetables as I added some baked cauliflower today.

Got a sweet workout in on the Max eliptical thingy at work, it is not S/B/ or R but it still gives me a good sweat and some decent cardio I think. Also so convenient to jump on after my shift, or during my shift if we have enough break coverage!

I got to watch the first period of the Toronto Maple Leafs playing the Florida Panthers, and mannnnn this leafs rebuild cannot happen soon enough, lets start the fire sale, its hard to watch the supposed top line of the leafs. It will be nice to see some new faces in the blue and white!

Forgot to mention my first new beer in a long time it was a 'Chocolate Orange Porter' from Trafalgar brewing in Toronto, and I have to say that I was not impressed at all, no body too it, and the orange I found to be overpowering of course it was still better than a Warm Coors!

cheers and g'night BDAS!

You aren't using it wrong! Don't change! The big side is actually supposed to be on back - near your butt! I do it the other way because I have kind of skinny legs and I'm bowlegged so it's easier for me to hold it like that!
