Allright Kate! Very glad to hear you had a good ride.

I did a bike threshold pre test today, an hour on the trainer.

Sounds like a great ride, Kate.  But don't you have a half marathon coming up pretty soon?

Well, my weekend is not going the way I had planned at all.  Chuck had been sick the last couple days and had refused all offers to take him to the hospital or urgent care or something.  This afternoon it was obvious there was no choice, I had to call the paramedic and he is now is ICU with a very serious case of pneumonia.  Needless to say, my bike ride didn't happen.  I was reduced to a Weak Peach workout (which isn't much) just to get my peach and now I am off to bed.  I may be delusional, but I think I can still get in my long run tomorrow and maybe make up the bike ride.  This sounds callous, but it will be a little easier with him in the hospital because someone else will be looking after him.

And the bike ride I missed was with my coach and that really bums me out because I really feel that is what I am paying the money for.  The workouts are fine and the answering of questions is good, but those two things by themselves are not worth $275 to me.  I wanted the personal rides with him.  Without those, it isn't much different than an online coach.

Sounds like a rough weekend Leah.  Sorry to hear about about chuck.  I hope he recovers soon.  Give yourself a break and go for some excercise.  Why are guys so subborn??

I am doing a half Marathon next weekend.  I have to admit that I am more worried about getting my A$$ up the hills in our HIM than I am finishing the Half Mary.  WORST case scenario is I can walk here and there in the HIM.  I don't want to miss the HIM bike cut off.  I'm REALLY worried about that.

I don't blame you about being bummed about missing your ride.  That is quite a bit of money.  Hang in there Leah!!

Hey Ladies and Scott,
Quiet in here today.
I hope all is well.
Leah I hope Chuck is doing better.
How is everyone doing on their mileage challenge?
So far I have 84.78 miles. If I could ride outside or was like Kiri I would have more.

Hey guys.  Why are my 2010 mileage numbers in my training log different then my January numbers?  shouldn't they be the same?  I just checked to see where I was at per Lisa's question.  I think I'm more around 52 miles but the 2010 mile are much higher.  Weird.

Hello everyone - I am at 99.28 miles and that does not count the maybe .75 that got left off my Garmin after I stopped it and forgot to restart it.  I ought to log it and then I would be at 100.03 - woo hoo - over 100 miles.   AND if I had gotten to go on my long ride yesterday I would have about 140 miles.  AND if ....  Oh well.  My life is made up of "AND IFs."

Chuck is doing lots better, but he did not get moved from ICU today because his white blood cell count was still elevated.  And tonight he has a slight fever so unless he gets that down and get his white cell count down, they aren't going to let him move tomorrow either.  So, we have our fingers crossed.  He can't have his cell phone or computer in ICU and that is making him go slightly crazy.  I was going to go to Lake Tahoe this weekend with my son and family and that is now off.  Another time.  It will still be there.

Kate - with all the biking you do, and with the time you have left, I think you will do really well on the bike in Oceanside.  Go race your half mary next weekend, giving it all you've got, and beat your previous HM time.

Wow!  It is pretty quiet around here.  Hope everyone is ok.

My miles are around 70 right now.  I got 18 in this evening on the bike.  Don't worry.   I'm going to give you all a run for your money.

Things are going well here.  I am not eating great.  I've got to get it in gear.  If I don't I'll never see the 180s.  I've got the Half Mary this weekend.  I'm looking forward to it.  I don't know if I'll be able to break my record due to my injury but I'll give it a try.  My sis-in-law and hubby are walking the Half mary and my bro-in-law is doing the full mary.  It will be a nice day for the family.  My S-I-L got us all matching shirts so it should be a good photo op!

Catch you all later.  Kate

Hi guys - Sorry I've been quiet. I've been having a rough couple of days. Seems recovering from the holidays hasn't quite happened fully. I'm a little down on myself that I haven't gotten my workout levels back up to where they should be. It's going to take me all week I think to quell the damage I've done the last few days.

Nice to hear your riding again Kate and Leah I hope the husband is getting better. Hope everyone else is doing well too.

Hi everyone. I've been working out since last week per my coach who worked my current schedule of pilates, aqua aerobics, crossfit and team swim practice into my workouts. I'm enjoying crossfit and go 2x a week. I'll probably give up aqua aerobics or scale back when I ramp up mileage in the spring.

Today I am going to call my friend at NYRR to get into the NYC half marathon March 21. The course is right through NYC so it should be fun, not just in central park like most NYC races. My running is getting better and I'm about 2 minutes per mile faster then I was last summer, hopefully I can get it 2 minutes per mile faster by this summer again.

Today I have bike power threshold test and crossfit.

Have a good day everyone!

Just wanted to say a quick "hi" and let you know that everything is going OK here.  Chuck expects to be released from the hospital, which is amazing considering where and how this all started on Saturday.  I've been getting in my workouts, but don't have them all posted yet.  I've been working with my coach on nutrition and endurance events and will let you know what he said when I have a smidge more time.

Happy training everyone.  One step at a time.  Just do something every single day and get those peaches.  The recipe for success.  Along with Run More and Eat Less.

Hello All - I hope everything is going well.  I am hoping to get my training plan finalized this week. I was supposed to go running yesterday but ended up going home sick.  I can't remember the last time I was so sick so quick..I all of a sudden felt like I had been on an all night bender and couldn't even walk straight.  I had a co worker take me home and I barely made it to the bed and just layed there without moving for 4 hours until I could finally lift my head up...  By midnight the headache and everything else was gone.  I have never had a migraine and hope to heck that was not the start of one.  The good news is I lost 4 lbs yesterday.

The weather has warmed up so I am going to ride tonight before it gets dark.  Volleyball also starts this week so I have yet more incentive to get some lbs off so I can still jump without being crippled the next morning.  I also think I have my wife convinced to start tri training and to maybe even join a women's tri club.

By the way - how did I miss the mileage contest?  What is it?  I see I am going to be at a disadvantage since I plan on focusing on running and swimming instead of biking.

Have a great day everyone.

I think our milage goal is who ever gets to 2010 first. I favors the bike and favors warm climate folks who can take longs rides in nice weather all winter. There should be a handicap for us foul weather people but I have no idea how to figure it out.

Hope you feel better soon.  As long as it isn't pneumonia.

The mileage contest is just to see who can get to 2010 miles first.  Anything counts as long as it is forward movement (the exception being biking on the trainer).  So walking, running, hiking, biking and swimming miles all count toward the goal.  Biking on the trainer counts as long as you have some way of more or less accurately assessing the equivalent mileage.

I found this info in my mentor group and wanted to share it with those that are doing the CA 70.3

"For Oceanside? As soon as you can tolerate the temperature, frankly. If it's a major hardship for you to get the OWS in, then three (minimum) before the race. I know I'm just guessing here, but this is based on my own swim training in essentially the same waters and then having done that race. The swim is deceptive. It's COLD and you do not get a chance to get used to the water or warm up. The more you can get your body used to getting into cold water and going, the better.

And on that short loop that's outside the harbor, you may get major swells. (Or not. But better to be prepared for a moving sea).

Here are some tips for Oceanside--I'll add more if I think of them!

- wear SOCKS on your hands while waiting in line for the swim and bring OLD SHOES to wear covering your feet. You can discard the items on the boat ramp before you go in. You will be grateful for this tip above all others.
- stay on the OUTSIDE during the swim. If you're not Front of Pack, no matter how fast you are, you will be fighting for space.
- step ONLY on the RED CARPET when you exit the swim. Do NOT step on any exposed part of the boat ramp.
- go MUCH slower than you think you need to on the first half of the bike. If you get into the hills and THEN feel like hammering, go nuts. Besides, there's always 13.1 left if you have lots of energy remaining
- If they have the sand part of the run this year, it may add up to a full mile of running on sand. You may want to occasionally take a short part of a run on sand to build up the ankle stability and get used to the feeling."

Lisa - Thanks for the tips!  I really appreciate it.  Can you believe we are so close our race?  I feel like we have been talking about it forever!!

Debb - Hang in there!!  You have come so far and done so much.  This is just a litle speed bump.  I think it will be VERY motiviating once you start with your trainer.  PLUS, you WON the weight loss challenge.  You are our NUTSO rock star!

Leah - Glad to hear Chuck is doing better.  I can't believe you were able to squeeze in work outs.  Probably good for your sanity level.

Scott - Sorry to hear about your migraine.  I've had two in my life and both when I was pregnant.  Before I had one I was never very sympathetic.  "its just a headache!"  I was so wrong!  Those things flatten you!  Get moving!!  See if you can keep up with us gals.

Kiri - I'm enjoying your updates on your mixes in your logs.  Keep them coming!!

Elke and Keely - Where are you girls?

I ran today and it felt good.  I think the I will be ok for the half mary.  I haven't had a long run since my accident.  Hopefully I can still pull if off.

I love to hear how everyone's training is coming along True that the 2010 mileage with us cold weather folks is a challenge, but come spring we'll catch up... so watch out!

I'm not sick or anything but thanks for the well thoughts... Just had a couple of bad days. I need to get my depression medication dosage changed seems to be part of the issue. Sounds like a lame excuse ... it's a bit embarrassing, but it's something I deal with. I guess I'm just frustrated with myself because I expected to be farther along at this point.

Lisa - how exciting w/ the half mary! I'm still looking for one I can squeeze into my schedule.

I did some research today about how to get to the suburbs (with hills). Looks like one of the 2 metra rail lines comes fairly close to one of the places my tri-club does rides... so I can use their cue sheets for directions. I'm sure they aren't great hills but we take what we can get here in prairie land. I'm excited for it to warm up enough for me to go.

Okay This is me sucking it up. Pool is open now and I'm going to swim tomorrow!

Hope were all having a good week.
