Last night I was getting ready to walk to the shower to go swimming at the Y and I did not notice how wet the floor was where I usually turn (notice usually was used). This time I bit it hard. Went down on my left arm fully extended and thought to myself this is not going to end up real well. I put my full body weight down hard and it is a little sore this morning but no damage. So my story and my logic is that if I did not strength train like I do (which includes swimming) I could have destroyed my rotator cuff or broke my arm very easily. I think shoulder would have had most of the damage because my arm was extended. Glad nothing bad happened but also glad I ST. Just plan on staying on 2 feet from now on while in the locker room! oh man. so glad no damage was done. ST. im on it!!! as for the visual of you falling on your AZZ, now that's MOTIVATION. LOLOLOLOLOLOL. i get it from where i can get it. [seriously though. im SO glad that, in the end you were OK] stacieb Wish it was my AZZ - that is my most protected area! This was not a good place to land on for sure! again.....falling on your AZZ was WAY more fun to type. ouchie left arm. though. im thinking. ANN. rubbing your left arm instead of.....oh forget it. love you mr. w.graves. mwah. stacieb I avoided mentioning anything innuendoish but I am male ![]() yay. and just how long will you avoid mentioning anything innuendoish BECAUSE your male? not that we female Ghoulies havent done our share of innuendo-ing. (as if thats even a word!) crack me up! stacieb Edited by skrtrnr 2009-11-12 8:13 AM |

I was just thinking about that last night. I'll let you all know if I come up with any good ideas for dinner tonight... perhaps this.... Ingredients 1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained 1 cup cooked brown rice 1 small onion, finely chopped 1 egg, lightly beaten 6 tablespoons salsa, divided 1/4 cup reduced-fat sour cream 4 lettuce leaves 4 slices reduced-fat Cheddar cheese 4 hamburger buns, split Directions In a large bowl, mash beans with a fork. Add the rice, onion, egg and 2 tablespoons salsa; mix well. Drop by 1/2 cupfuls into a large nonstick skillet coated with nonstick cooking spray. Flatten to 1/2-in. thickness. Cook over medium heat for 4-5 minutes on each side or until firm and browned. In a small bowl, combine sour cream and remaining salsa. Place a lettuce leaf, burger, sour cream mixture and slice of cheese on bun. this sounds yummmmmy! oh man SOOOOOO yummmmy. add in a little bread crumbs into the mix. they stick together better. ENJOY! stacieb |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Morning all. I have tried to catch up on the thread, but one step forward two steps back with your chatty selves . I have had a crappy crappy crappy couple of days. Yesterday I hurt so bad (migrane and neck shoulder issues) I was physically sick. YUCK. Today I feel old, and fat and discouraged. So...... I signed out of work and I am gonna get on the trainer for a bit and see how it goes. Hopefully I can take the day to smack myself around a bit and buck up. I need to run but the weather is horrific -wind, driving rain, flooding. so, maybe later today but tomorrow definately. My new shoes are waiting for me. |

MORNING KIM! What's up for the day? I swam this morning. Felt great. long run. 6-7 miles. swimming and ST tomorrow. what kinda of sets did you swim this morning? or do you do long endurance swims? stacieb Today was Masters Swim and the coach normal puts together the workout. She was out today with H1N1 flu, so I just swam a long endurance swim. Tried to really focus on form. I only learned to swim a couple years ago, so I'm really slow and working on getting balanced in the water. bugger the coach has H1N1. hope she's feeling better. nice that you have access to Master Swm. i know our team usually puts together some uber fierce workouts.... thats so awesome that your already doin' tris having just learned how to swim a few years ago. goes to show you can do anything you set your mind to. ![]() ive been focusing a lot on my form in the water. its amazing how much those tweaks in body position make a difference, balance in the water being one of them... are there balance drills that you found helpful, or are you just mindful of that when you swim? stacieb My "inner athelete" didn't emerge until my 40's. I rode horses competitively through college and then did nothing in my 20's. Biked quite a bit in my 30's, but stopped after a bad accident involving a stooopid driver and pickup. Ran my first 5k 4 years ago and did my first tri 3 years ago. I'd love to do a HIM, but I'd never make the swim cut-off. I try to use the Total Immersion approach to swimming and use the drills I've learned from the workshop and lessions with Terry. If I could ramp the swimming up to 3x week it would help. |

I love the water though and I know I have only gotten better with 4-5x a week and sometimes even more. To me swimming is obviously the hardest of the 3 disciplines and requires the most effort from me. Keep at it - the speed will come! Thanks for the encouragement! I will have to change my ST disdain to Swim disdain to get that many sessions in during a week, and run, and bike, and ST and, oh yes, keep my job. |

It is really hard to improve on all three at any one time. |

LOL. ![]() stacieb Love this Stacie! when we were trick-or-treating my kids said thank you and a boy who was handing out candy told his mom....they were the first to say thank you! This was about an hour into trick-or-treating! Mine know to say their manners or the candy goes back! It is one thing that I get complimented on with my kids is how respectful they are to everyone else.....now how do I get them to do this at home with each other and mom and dad???? |

Rushmore and my son who was probably 2 or 3 at the oldest was giving me a hard time. I took him into the restroom to have a hand to rear meeting. I was so mad at him I went right into the ladies room and did not even notice it until we walked out and all these ladies were looking at me like I was crazy. Too funny. I should have given him an extra swat for making me so mad that I did that but I just laughed! Toooooo funny Bill! |

See you Ghoulies in a bit! RUN TOM RUN! stacieb OK, I'm back. That was a tough run. Not sure why, but I just didn't feel like I had much in the tank. Still, I think I did an OK job of "tempo-ing" it and even though the hill at mile 3 REALLY slowed me down I pushed as hard as I could through it and still had enough for a hard 1/2 mile downhill push on the home stretch. I think what really did me in was that it's a lot more humid here today than usual so I was a bit overheated. I even had to take off the t-shirt and expose my poor neighbors to my distinctly Scandinavian torso complection. Hopefully noone got too blinded. Fortunately I was able to cool down fairly quickly once I got my hands on some water thanks to our discussions from last month ![]() I definitely thought of you guys when I was pushing up that hill though, between all of your nagging injuries, ailing familyies, crappy weather, and all the other obstacles faced by the Ghoulie nation. Talking to you guys makes me very thankful for the good things I'm able to experience every day. Thanks a million Ghoulies... awwwwww Tom that was nice of you....you poured the water over your head right???? |

Please take this advice with a HUGE grain of salt since I'm still very new to all of this, but it sounds very reasonable to me as long as you're still running at least 3 times per week. Even Hal's "intermediate" plan starts with a "long" run of 5 miles in week one. I'm currently using this plan and my long run to date is nowhere near 8 miles. i TOTALLY VALUE your opinion TOM! so thanks so much for the feedback. my thought process was 'similiar' i came into the 1/2 MARY training (Hals of course) at week 3-4. the long run was 6 miles... i want to be able 'pick up' where i left off, w just a little 'advantage' heading into my 1/2 come MAY. this way, ill only need to build in 4-5 weeks in prep for my Half this go round. stacieb this sounds good to me....but then again I know nothing! |
