This applies to lots of things as well as running. I may have to etch these on my forehead!

http://www.blog.runtheedge.com/2012/05/five-things-every-runner-should-quit-doing-right-away/

Good morning, Robin.

I have a piece of advice for you and your husband. Run. Run a lot. Run if you're tired. Run if your sore. Run if you don't feel like running. 26.2 miles is a very long way. So run.

Morning Ann

I may walk a bit, too!

Well, that would be ok, too. As long as you get the miles in. DO NOT SKIMP ON THE MILES!!!

Good morning Ghoulies!

Here's a recap of my weekend...

My MIL is in the hospital. She is having triple bypass surgery today.

One of the wires popped off of my son's braces during a soccer game on Saturday. I cut 1/3 of the wire off on the side of the soccer field. Need to call the orthodontist today.

I had to work Saturday night. The project should have taken 1.5 hours. I was here for almost 4. I didn't get home until after 1 AM Sunday morning. This was after waking up at 3:26 Saturday morning and being unable to fall back asleep. I didn't do a whole lot yesterday.

So what's going on with all of you?

Ann, I hope that all is well in your family.  Sending good juju your way for all concerned.  Great job on the emergency orthodontic surgery on the side of the soccer field Saturday.

Robin, sounds like you have some very busy weekends coming up.  I'm trying to get up there next month, will keep you posted.

My weekend was very busy.

Friday night played a tennis match.  Back felt okay and we won the match.

Saturday morning, got up early and was at the park by 6:30am to stand around while the person running the race told us that she made us all get there early so that she would know who she could count on.  STUPID!!! Way to lose all of us volunteers next year.  Anyway, I found stuff to do and talked with other rotarians.  Then, even though I said I would be walking the race, it started and I started a slow run and felt pretty good, so I just kept going.  Then I decided to see how far I could go without walking, and I went the whole way.  Back was doing okay, but I guess not really as there was some pain in the hip.

Saturday afternoon was a wedding.  The bride was beautiful and so happy.  The groom looked good too, for he had shaved off his ZZTOP beard.  Hubby and I danced a little bit and my hip did not like that so I DID STOP DANCING.

Saturday evening we rode the motorcycle the two hours to the other side of Atlanta and spent the night at a hotel so that we could report at 5:30 in the morning for the bicycle race we were working at.

Sunday morning we were up at 4:30, reporting in for duty at 5:30 to only once again stand around with nothing to do for almost 2 hours.  But had fun catching up with some of the motocrew that I really only see a couple times a year at events like this.  Once the century ride took off at 7:30, we rode out on the motorcycles and a couple of cycles got stationed at the 3 mile marker.  Then after that, Sam, Frank and I never saw another motorcycle except for the guy who was supposed to be caboose on the century ride.  We were the only 3 covering the 66 milers and the century riders after the 20 mile mark.  I have no idea what happened to the other 12 motorcycles, and the person who was supposed to be caboosing the 66 milers I never saw.  I finally moved on when the last couple of cyclists who went by me said they had started the race 30 to 40 minutes after the official start.  So I went up and picked up Frank at the next big intersection and then we found Sam.  She and Frank had gotten sandwiches at the rest stop, but I hadn't had anything yet.  I did have the apple I brought with me and luckily I had a lot of water with me.

Long story short, we rode all the way back to the end of the race, got a bite to eat and then went to relieve the motocrew who were at the 3 mile mark since they had been there since first thing in the morning.  The cop at that corner sat in their car the whole day with it running so they could have airconditioning.  Really pissed all of us off that she was being paid to be there while us volunteers handled all the traffic in the intersection (which we aren't supposed to do, but we just walk out and stand in the way of the cars and let the bicyclist through.

Then once we got done, we had the 2 hour ride back home.  Needless to say, we went out for a good dinner after we had our showers.

So, I had a really full weekend.  I felt like I was trying to compete with Ann and her weekends, but I swear I really wasn't.

Open night down at the dock at the lake. We don't go down there often, so..... Monday evening we do. appetizers to share and BYOB (and a chair is handy). Sometimes it is just Jim and I and some times 20 people. It is a nice spot.

WOW, that was a busy weekend. Sounds like the bike race was not well organized. What were the cops there for anyway, if not to do traffic. Glad your back didn't hurt with all the tennis, running (Yea on the win) and the dancing.

I am taking a nap after reading all of that.

First, I apologize fir my post: my internet isnt working, so I am posting from my phone. Hi guys! Got my race done. Drove the truck & camper trailer down to St George without anyone else having to get me out of any sticky spots! Yay! Even hooked it up to the hookups at the campground without problem. It was windy Friday, and we got our packets & drove half of the bike course (the hill I had to climb was looong). Saturday the race went off without a hitch. Perfect weather, sunshine & blue skies. I'm so glad I was only doing the bike. The run was on the pavement & it got hot out there! We had a great potluck dinner in the campground that night, complete with one of the guys giving my son a photography lesson on how to photograph sunsets and stars. Very cool! Then watching a dozen bats darting around catching insects, & stargazing. We were going to start a fire & make s'mores but we were too tired. Sunday we packed up & drove back home. The trip was about 6 hours each way.
I am so glad to be home & being very lazy today! The Boy is out of school for the next 3 weeks, and The Hubby is in Madagascar for another 2-ish weeks. The Girl is in school for a few more weeks, then she's doing her drivers Ed class for a couple weeks before she sets off for the first of her summer trips.
If you made it this far, thanks for reading! I guess I have lots to share!

ceilidh - 2012-05-21 2:34 PM Ann, how is your friend Bill, your son's teeth and your MIL?

Bill is on the mend. He starts cardiac rehab this week.

My son had his braces fixed yesterday afternoon. When I called to make the appointment the receptionist told me to bring him in at 4:30, but we will probably have to wait awhile while they try to squeeze him in. We were out of there by 4:40. We didn't have to wait long.

My MIL had triple bypass yesterday. They said last night she was doing fine. No one really got to see her much though, they were only given a few minutes after she got out of recovery. Hopefully we will know more today.

I think the best remedy for that is to quit your job. Less paperwork.

Speaking of quitting jobs. Friday was the DB's last day. He had planned on working until 5:00, so he could get paid for a full week. My boss didn't trust him, so he wanted me to stay until he left, he didn't think he'd work all day. Friday morning, I asked how long he was staying, he said 5. I let my boss know. My boss called him up and told him to do his out-processing and he could have the rest of the day off "on the company". This was at 8:45. The guy wouldn't leave. At 10:30 the boss called and told him to bring me up to speed on what he was working on, then he could go. He was still here. At 11:35 the office manager came over and told him that it was time to turn in his stuff. My boss jumped on our chat program and asked me to tell him when she got there. I told her she was at his desk, and he immediately had all of his accounts disabled. She collected all of his stuff, then walked him to the door. I disabled the port for his computer then, too.

For a guy who didn't want to be here, it was pretty hard to get him to leave. The bonus is what he was working on he did wrong and I spent yesterday fixing it. Oh well, he's gone now. There is a position open here, working with me, if anyone is interested.
