I'm giddy like a little school girl... Chrissie Wellington emailed me to wish me good luck!

Dear Monica,

Just a small message to say a huge good luck for Ironman AZ. I know you may be nervous right now, but these nerves are normal. Just focus on what you HAVE done and what you CAN do and control. You will nail it!

Make sure you keep your head, stay calm, smile and relish every minute of this amazing experience.

Have a fantastic day, and of course congratulations, also, for your forthcoming wedding ceremony in Vegas!

Smiles

Chrissie

Awesome.this.is! That's fantastic!

Totally awesome!!!

The even MORE awesome thing is that she actually contacted Tony about it first because she remembered from ages ago that he told her we were doing the race.

What a completely amazing lady

Wow! I might have thought she culled a database, but no; this truly is a personal inspire! I'm impressed with Chrissie and her encouragement for us MOP people!

You probably have seen my crush on Tatyana McFadden. I met her in queue at BWI airport. I noticed her wheelchair was rolling on Topolino wheels which are uncommon, but I have them on my road bike. She was more interested in learning about my Cat 4 racing than to talk about her accomplishments. Her humility and ncouragement has made a lasting impression on me. She's an Olympic medalist for christ' sake! Much like Chrissie has done with this simple email which does more than she imagines.

My ploy is to make the excuse I lost because I was being a gentleman and let ladies go first accross the finish line (not because I was barely holding on the whole time)...

I already have my race report written to that effect.

Brilliant!

I know - I was stunned when he told me that she had remembered we were doing the race and took the time to send ME an email about it knowing that it was my first one.  Just receiving that email was inspiration enough to help me realize that I really can do this silly race we've signed ourselves up for.

Tatyana McFadden is very crush worthy, for many reasons, but that just puts the icing on the cake!

Mornin' TAN!

Today will be a multiple coffee day... not a lot of sleep last night after the tornado hit our apartment... which is the only explanation I can come up with for the sheer amount of STUFF left all over the place after the frantic packing last night.

Tomorrow - we fly!

Looks like all the IMAZ people are getting crazy.  I am looking forward to see all the suffering smiling competitors this weekend

Gotta say.  That is freakin cool!

It really is!  I replied to her yesterday saying my main goal was to not die and enjoy the day - and I woke up to another email from her saying that I CAN do the race and that she has yet to figure out how NOT to walk like the tin man after a race.

She's awesome.  Really, really awesome.

(huge girl crush going on right now)

Yep, there's huge amounts of crazy going on...

Tony and I are actually going to be in Casa Grande for a couple of days after the race trying to keep the old folks behaving properly and to encourage driving at or above the speed limit.  I don't anticipate success in that endeavor.

I will be at a seminar all weekend so I won't be able to follow most of it but I will be thinking about you and sending you all the good vibes I can.

And way cool about Chrissy Wellington!

Thanks Beautiful!!!   I'm trying not to freak out TOO much and failing miserably - but all I need to do is remember that forward is a pace, and that I'm stubborn enough to finish no matter what.

If you're at a seminar all weekend, will they at least show a bit of mercy and finish up in the evening by giving everyone some scotch or whiskey?  It only seems like the right thing to do.
