Made some huge gains this week.  I ran a total of 3 miles!!!!!!!!  PAIN FREE.  No pain in the surgically repaired nerve area.  No swelling from ZR trainer rides, and the 1.25 mile and 1.75 mile (12 min pace) runs on the treadmill.  I just need to keep reminding myself to ease into running again. (I better not have just jinxed myself)

On another note, I am still going to PT, because my foot remains cold, 24/7.  It's been that way since Sept 2011.  It is now being related to bulging discs from that same accident.  WTH, I'm 35 and on paper, I'm like 70.  Anyway, still a big win for me this week, mentally and physically.

Yeah for 3 miles pain free!

(FWIW - I sometimes feel like I'm 70 too!)

But you look 29.   Wink

Karen - I am considering.  I would be doing that as a training race, then Rev3 Venice, FL as my last race.  However, both are month-end races and will affect month-end close for my job ... so not sure.

That would be awesome to have a cheer squad though!!!

Jen - What was your opinion on Cedar Point?

Someone else who has to plan trips around month end close - I've been doing that for 25 years!!! I completely understand. I practically have to be on life support to miss month end.

With that said I think you should do it - I want to meet you! Just sign up and then ask for the time off. =)

Just finished reading "Weight Training for Triathlon" by Ben Greenfield.  Interesting read.  Lots of science cited, lots of workouts.

Going to be gone ask weekend visiting in laws, but am going to try to get a run in in the morning depending on how I feel. Woke up at 3 this morning with chills, body aches, sore throat and horrible headache. Thought I was getting the flu. Slept most of the day. Thank God for a strong immune system. My body is fighting it.

Take it easy. I have a pretty strong immune system too, but whatever is floating around this year got me good & I was miserable for 2 weeks.

X2 -- REST.  There's no point in pushing your body and getting sicker.

For those who have tried both Infinit Nutrition and Ironman Perform, if either were offered on course of an IM, which would you prefer? I've read mixed reviews on Perform and that's all they have on course, but I'm trying to figure out if its worth it to be self sufficient and bring all my own fuel. I've ruled out Perpeteum from past experience on a HIM, and Accelerade doesn't do it for me either. Thanks for your thoughts

So I weighed myself today and it turns out that I have lost 5 lbs without trying. This is the lightest I have weighed since hs. Granted I have been more mindful of dietary habits, but i eat a lot, still drink beer etc. I feel good, my recent HM, was good, but i don't really want to lose more weight. Should I drink protein shakes or something else?

Thanks everyone! Well, I went ahead and did an easy 3.5 mike run. It actually felt good to get outside in the cold air. Now, I will relax for the rest of the weekend.

Well they're really two different products.  Infinit will get you all the calories you need plus electrolytes for the race.  So in essence it eliminates the need for gels or food or whatnot.  I like Perform just fine, I prefer EFS.  If you have enough time you can train your stomach to deal with just about anything.

I'd track your food intake w/o changing anything for two weeks and see if you're severely deficient anywhere and go from there.  You could just be a guy who carries a slight build.  Also be mindful to see if you feel any less energetic/your workouts suffer moving forward.

Carrying is tough.  I've ejected bottles so many times.  Plus you have to carry a fair amount of wait and stop of special need (things I don't like to do). Even if you want to start with Infinit (which is a really good product) I think you should be prepared to use perform.  The other thing is that over a 5-6 hour bike, I find I want to eat something "real" (or at least chew-able) for at least part of the time, going all liquid could be tough.

I'm working on details for the 1/4 Marathon today (a race I RD in late March that benefits the Blazeman Foundation).  I'm trying to figure out what I want to do for AG awards.  Right now I'm thinking Head Sweats hats and very special cookies.  Any thoughts?

What kind of cookies....I used to eat very special cookies and recall liking them very much...which led to eating very special Doritos.

I have a "cookie lady" who does custom cookies.  I was going to have her make cookies with the race logo.

These are the ones she did for my 1/2 marathon in September

Those are very cool. And not at all like the very special cookies I recall enjoying a number of years ago.

See we had very special brownies that led to special trips to the closest taqueria.

That's what I thought of also when I read about how special the cookies were, and that would definitely be interesting. If you did that, I bet you'd have record participation next year! He!!, I might come up and enter this time!
