Yanti - congrats on finishing the tri! I finished a trail run race DFL once (seriously, how was I to know "trail run" really meant "beat your way through the bush to the top of the mountain, then back down again") ... you can only PR from here! ;-)

You rocked it girl, cuz you did it! Yay! HUGE (((HUGS!!!)))

And good luck with your surgery.

And to both of you - thanks for the words of wisdom. My head knows I'm doing the right thing by resting and healing ... but my heart wants nothing of it. It's tough to reconcile.

The season may be lost for me for tri's ... but I'm still hopeful for the half-mary in October. Even if I walk/run the damm thing.

And as for me--after a full year of not racing and not training very much, I am very happy to report that I did indeed finish my tri ... DFL!!! (that's Dead eFFen Last ) A new experience, both wonderful and humbling. The fires are stoked anew. I'll let you know when my RR goes up--I have lots of amazing pictures to put in it!

Yanti - Been there, done that. You'll laugh about it later. It is great motivation though.

My Wonderful Manatees!!

I am home - exhausted and elated all at the same time!    I can't seem to get rehydrated either....I have drunk gallons - water, propel, water, a gatorade type of drink, a beer to celebrate, more water, a V8 juice and more water!   I know I lost weight on the race though so guess my body is trying to refuel.

And guess what??????      I ended up 2nd in my AG and got a silver medal!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will get a RR up asap....but I don't even know where to look for the official results....any directions?

I carried you all with me.  I agree with Art that all the advice and sharing here made a HUGE difference in the actual race!

I will write more tomorrow but for now....Hugs and Blessings to you all!

Hi all, just a quick drive-by. Congrats to our racing manatees!

Quick question: what is the proper way to care for a wetsuit?

Wow! What a weekend for the Manatees!

Sorry I've been MIA for a few days. We were out of town for the weekend and then Sunday night our youngest was in an accident. We spent the night and all day yesterday in the hospital. He is fine now, but plenty shaken up over the whole experience. We've survived many car wrecks with our kids, but this is the first and only with injury and absolutely the scariest yet. It could have been so much worse. We are very thankful.  Hopefully that was the last one. He's a very lucky young man.

Yanti, I'm proud of you for even entering that race. You've had such a hard time of late. You are my hero! I hope your gum surgery went ok and you're feeling fine.

Sharie, you earned hardware on your very first race! I wonder how often that happens. You are awesome.

TR, we are on for MG 2010. Anyone else want to join us? Mardi Gras Marathon 2010, Feb. 26. Now we all just have to heal up and stay healthy!

Ooh, that is tempting! I can't imagine doing a full mary though. Do they have a half option?

Hope your son is doing much much better now, and that he heals completely, and quickly. (((hugs)))

OK Cathy .. it's on. I'll do it. I'll register for the Mardi Gras Rock'N'Roll 2010 Marathon. ;-)

YES - they do have a half option ... for those who don't want to do the full.
http://runrocknroll.competitor.com/mardigras/
Of course you can always come cheer us on - if you don't want to run.

I'm thinking I'll aim for it to be my first full marathon - unless you guys have any advice on that ... I live and train at sea level, albeit the Pacific NW? I am good to run the half-mary distance when I'm healthy - which I most certainly will be by then! ... I often do 15+K runs as my long runs when I'm healthy. But I've never run longer than 21K - EVER!

I'd LOVE to have a Manatees get-together there! That would be awesome! ... the run is Sunday Feb 28 ... so we could even do a BT hotel share the Fri/Sat night before ...

I'll be staying for a week, maybe 10 days ... I have a very good friend who lives in NOLA so I'm welcome on his couch anytime and I've yet to take him up on it. Amazingly enough - we've been friends for 10 years, and I've never visited him. Am I a bad friend? Probably, considering how many times he's come to see me in Canada. ;-)

Wow. Travel AND running AND friends ... throw in some wine and I'm in heaven.

So glad your son is doing all right. Scary, scary. Hope he's feeling all better soon.

Mardi Gras marathon? It's tempting....I'll keep it as an option. It would be great to meet all of you. :-)

Bill, I find having a race in the future REALLY helps with my motivation. I often think during my runs/bikes, etc. how each workout brings me one step closer to whatever race is next.

As far as wetsuit care -- I know you're supposed to rinse with clear, clean water after each use. I swim in salt water, so I always rinse it and then hang in the breeze to dry. I know the sun can deteriorate it over time as well. I usually hang mine up as well to facilitate better drying. Hope that helps.

Oh, my race report from Sunday is up. They posted the splits tonight and I'm pretty pleased with my times. I've not been tapering for any of these races since they're not "A" races. It will be interesting to see how tapering will affect my performance. In theory it should help, right?

Hi all, just a quick drive-by. Congrats to our racing manatees!

Quick question: what is the proper way to care for a wetsuit?

Rinse very well with clean cold water after each use; hang up to dry on a thick-plastic or wooden hanger inside out. There are wetsuit cleaners and soaps, but I've found that the above method works very well.

Hey Manatees!

Thanks for the well wishes for my son. He is feeling much better. He got to see the car yesterday. Dh said it's completely smashed. That seemed to make a big impression on him. Dh said it looks to have flipped front to back & side to side several times. He is emailing pictures to me today from his work computer. Don't know if I really want to see.

I'm getting psyched about doing R&R in NOLA! That is the only full mary I've done, so I have a time goal. Manatees, It's a fun race and a great time of year to visit NOLA and to race. The weather is usually really nice. The course is flat and fast. And you have plenty of time to train for the half or full mary. I think there is also a 5k option, but it may be the day before the mary. I've done that run before, too, but not in a long, long time. I've done the half many times.

Hope everyone has a beautiful day! Happy training!!

Happy 142nd Birthday to Canada! Woo hoo! I am not blindingly patriotic (ie: our Prime Minister is the devil), but I do think I live in one of the most amazing places in the world ... if you have any doubt about that ever, come visit my Island. I truly do live in paradise. ;-)

And in the spirit of good neighbour-ly-ness - our nations birthdays are a good time to reflect on how great life is, how much opportunity and chance and priviledge we have, NOT on how our country is better than another. It's a time to celebrate, not alienate.

This photo was taken today on the grounds of our Legislative Buildings ... 2010 people were given red and white tshirts and told to stand in formation .. get it - 2010 - like the Owelympics, uh I mean the Olympics. ;-)

Really great set of race reports from Art, Cathy, Lynn and myself. Everyone did so well!!! Definitely try to get around to them if you haven't already.

Bethie Love, so good to see you posting again. There will always be those times and your grace and strength shine through even more so then.

I'm back in Jakarta with my folks and my, what a culture shock! All of it! Hopefully I will settle down soon. One day at a time, and just observe, assess, and accept.
