kcarroll - 2009-11-11 6:28 PM Hi Ghoulies!  Went off-line this afternoon.  I didn't have any meetings on my calendar, so I left the office and went MIA.  I put the sneaks on and went out for a jog/walk.  Went a little over 5 miles and no probs with the knee!!!  The HM is still unlikely (unless I decide to walk alot, which isn't out of the question as I have friends flying in to do it with me) but I signed up for the Ft. Lauderdale HM in February as a motivator.  Planning to make it a long beach weekend with friends who live there.  Jersey is horrid in February.

Kim happy to hear the knee gave you no problems!

ceilidh - 2009-11-12 8:27 AM Morning all. I have tried to catch up on the thread, but one step forward two steps back with your chatty selves .
I have had a crappy crappy crappy couple of days. Yesterday I hurt so bad (migrane and neck shoulder issues) I was physically sick. YUCK. Today I feel old, and fat and discouraged. So...... I signed out of work and I am gonna get on the trainer for a bit and see how it goes.  Hopefully I can take the day to smack myself around a bit and buck up. I need to run but the weather is horrific -wind, driving rain, flooding. so, maybe later today but tomorrow definately.
My new shoes are waiting for me.

oh no ROBIN.  im sorry for you crappy crappy crappy couple days.  sounds HORRIFICALLY UGISH!

so glad to hear though that your taking some time out to care for yourself well, to regroup and collect yourself.

i hope the trainer helps all thats ailing you right now...or at least helps you move in good direction.

GHOULIE HUGS AND KISSES.

skrtrnr - 2009-11-11 7:26 AM MORNING GHOULIES.

inserted off day for me today....

teacher-parent conferences.  get to go hear how well my kids are doing and to hear how wonderful they are.....for someone else.

j/k.  they're good kids all three of them.  and im so thankful that they're growing up well.

they BETTER.  i work hard enough!

in fact, speaking of kids, i was at the register at McDs (picking up Ghoulie orders) my kids unprompted by me used their manners to ask for an Icee - excuse me, may i please have a blue raspberry....thank you.

and the lady at the cash register said, 'its so nice to children who are parented well.  who behave appropriately.  who use their manners.  i see 'all types' here and most of the kids definately are not as well behaved as your children.  you can tell you spend time with them and teach them 'right'....

how nice is that??

they Know better than to act like WILD THINGS in public.

i was never opposed, when they were younger, leaving a full grocery cart in the store, taking them to a stall in the bathroom or out to the car and swattin' their WILD THING behinds or sending them to their rooms as soon as we got home.

im glad for moments like those.  makes when they act like Wild Things a little more 'tolerable'

they're 'coming around', parenting IS a lot of hard work and to do it 'well' it takes energy/time....but oh so worth it!

and golden when you get a compliment!

so its parent teacher conferences.  and then chiropractor appt in the middle.

and hoping that i dont lose my mind when my "well-mannered" children are underfoot.

they may be WILD THINGS, but they're MY WILD THINGS.

LOL.

stacieb

Love this Stacie! when we were trick-or-treating my kids said thank you and a boy who was handing out candy told his mom....they were the first to say thank you! This was about an hour into trick-or-treating! Mine know to say their manners or the candy goes back! It is one thing that I get complimented on with my kids is how respectful they are to everyone else.....now how do I get them to do this at home with each other and mom and dad????

oh man KIM.  you figure THAT one out and then let me know.

ill give my kids props for the most part (they've learned THE HARD WAY) they respect DH and I.  every once in awhile they forget and we are quick to REMIND THEM.

but the way they treat each other, HORRIFIES ME.

ive been told, 'oh they're boys, thats what boys do'.

but uh-huh.

that aint gonna fly with me.

i dont care WHO/WHAT they are.

they are NOT gonna treat each other that way, not under my roof.

so thats something were REALLY working on now.

you know.  friends will come and go.  but your brothers, you have for life.  they best learn NOW how to get along.

QUESTION GHOULIES.

im planning on running the PGH 1/2 IN MAY.

i was wondering, what should i maintain as my long run/base through the winter?

i was thinking 6-8 miles.

does that sound 'reasonable'?

last winter i was (re)building my base after my injury ie starting over from a BIG FAT ZERO so this winter maintenance/base trng is new to me.

stacieb

Please take this advice with a HUGE grain of salt since I'm still very new to all of this, but it sounds very reasonable to me as long as you're still running at least 3 times per week. Even Hal's "intermediate" plan starts with a "long" run of 5 miles in week one. I'm currently using this plan and my long run to date is nowhere near 8 miles.

i TOTALLY VALUE your opinion TOM!  so thanks so much for the feedback.

my thought process was 'similiar'

i came into the 1/2 MARY training (Hals of course) at week 3-4.  the long run was 6 miles...

i want to be able 'pick up' where i left off, w just a little 'advantage' heading into my 1/2 come MAY.

this way, ill only need to build in 4-5 weeks in prep for my Half this go round.

stacieb

this sounds good to me....but then again I know nothing!

oh KIM STOP.  you know lots of stuff....and if it sounds good to you, then it must be GOOD.

YOU SAID IT BILL.  that she was.  BANG ON [love that expression by the way, will add it to my ever growing BT vocabulary]

and THANKS TO EVERYONE THIS MORNING I REALLY APPRECIATE IT.

if it werent for the GHOULIES.....

i know what i would have done in the past.

i would have 'woosed' out and figure out a way around this run, talked myself out of it, and into something else.

would've ended up shortening it and probably doing it down on the trail.

this WAY i know i STILL go that running get up n go inside -  not only did i run a steady even pace 6 miles/1:01, i  ran ALL the hills on my route.  YAHOOOEY.

its a GREAT FEELING moving forward...

and i had a light bulb moment along the way.  I GET THIS BASE STUFF NOW.  not that i didnt get it before, but i REALLY REALLY GET IT NOW.

i was running up the hills, not very fast mind you and i thought to myself, self...this is your base for when you start doing HILL REPEATS come late winter early Spring in prep for your 1/2 Mary.

and when i wasnt pushing the pace, just a slow, steady, even cadence, i thought to myself, self....this is your base, for when you start picking up your pace to work on an even BETTER 1/2 MARY finish.

see.  i get it.

i's sooooo smart.

now off to shower, then my REWARD.

gnosh.  gnosh.  gnosh.

again, thanks SO SO SO MUCH GHOULIES.

wgraves7582 - 2009-11-12 7:55 AM Stacie - just want to tell you a story about how good ST is for you.

Last night I was getting ready to walk to the shower to go swimming at the Y and I did not notice how wet the floor was where I usually turn (notice usually was used).  This time I bit it hard.  Went down on my left arm fully extended and thought to myself this is not going to end up real well.  I put my full body weight down hard and it is a little sore this morning but no damage.

So my story and my logic is that if I did not strength train like I do (which includes swimming) I could have destroyed my rotator cuff or broke my arm very easily.  I think shoulder would have had most of the damage because my arm was extended.

Glad nothing bad happened but also glad I ST.  Just plan on staying on 2 feet from now on while in the locker room!

ohhhh Bill glad you are ok!

kcarroll - 2009-11-12 7:23 AM Morning Ghoulies!

MORNING KIM!

What's up for the day?  I swam this morning.  Felt great.

Swimming this afternoon.

whats your typical workout ANN?

stacieb

My swimming needs major improvements. I typically do 8x25 as a warmup. Then a ladder 25, 50, 75, 100, 75, 50, 25. After that I just swim laps, working on form, or just kicking.

I need to find some drills or something else to do to help me improve. At one time in Tri Talk there was a link to a simulated video that showed what your form SHOULD look like as you swim, from 4 different angles, and what muscles you use. I have been unable to find it again.

The swim is what's keeping me from signing up for the Oly at Black Bear. I can breathe, or I can kick, I have a problem doing both.

Here you go Ann:
http://www.virtual-swim.com/3d_mv/top_btn/free/2000wc_1500/2000wc_1500_q.html

BILL!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU'RE THE BEST!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!

No problem Ann - I guess it is good I have so many resources but it is bad that they are all exercise related.  Guess I know what my job field should be in by my desire to have all sorts of good stuff on hand (have to luv the BOOKMARK option) for future reference.

yes I do! That is exactly what I did as soon as I saw it! Thanks Bill!
