Artemis - 2010-08-04 12:07 AM In other news, I woke up this morning with no voice and a massive sore throat.  Could it be caused my using my inhaler a lot more often recently?

Awww Jen! I hope you feel better soon... you dont seem to have had a good run recently!

Throat is doing much better.  I was fine until I ate the peanut stuff.  Now my mouth is tingly.  Took a bunch of Benadryl so I'm guessing I'm be sleepy soon.
Uh oh. Have you ever had a problem with peanuts before?

I've had the tingly happen a few times and I've been in denial about it.  I really don't want to be allergic to peanuts.  But, that's not a good attitude, so I'm going to get allergy tested again.
Is a peanut allergy one that can develop later in life?  I always heard about people being allergic from the get go with this one, but then again, I don't pay that much attention.

Definitely.  Allergies are basically your body making antibodies to something they shouldn't make.  You want them for things like colds and flu (which is why you get a flu shot), but they can also be made for things like peanuts, dust, etc.

I wasn't diagnosed with an almond allergy until I was 21.  My brother found out he was nut allergic at 10 and ate them every day up until then.

After I thought about it, I realized that yeah, allergies do and can develop later on in our lives.

A lot better.  I don't really feel sick.  I'm mostly grumpy about the peanut thing and trying to get in to an allergist.

I got an appointment next week, but the doctor isn't covered by my insurance.  So, now I have to call back and try to get an appointment with one of the two doctors that are covered.  It's frustration.

Yeah, it's an annoying system.  My insurance doesn't necessarily cover every doctor at a practice, which is just confusing.

Yeah, it's an annoying system.  My insurance doesn't necessarily cover every doctor at a practice, which is just confusing.

Drs choose which plans they will seek to participate with.  They send in paperwork and get credentialed with the insurance company.  Some choose to be non participating with insurances or refuse to do HMO cause they don't want the headaches of precert to be as much.....referrals running out and all that jazz.  Stinks for the pts but it's the Dr call to join and the pt call to decide if they want to go out of network or not.

Unfortunately if there are a lot of in network specialists in the area the insurance company doesn't allow the out of network doc to get paid high tier.  Yeah, it can get confusing to someone working the insurance company too!!

My current problem is that the doctor is brand new at MCV and so he hasn't been added to the insurance register.  So, he might be covered at some point, but he isn't now.  And they can't guarantee that they will cover him if I decide to keep the appointment - it might be out of network, which I really can't afford.

No.  Basically only one doc is covered.  They have another doc listed as covered, but he is no longer practicing.
