Thanks so much for the help Mike.  That really does put me in the right direction.  How did you pick up all your knowledge?  Did you just learn as you went, or have a good book to sort of guide you?  I'm looking around for different books and am not sure which is the most up to date and/or user friendly.  I'm also in need of some tools.  I know parktools makes a bunch of them, but are there other companies that make just as good or better?  I probably need a bottom bracket tool and other's to complete this task.  Luckily it's not a braze-on, so that's an easy swap-out.  I'm also not sure if I need to change out her front shifter as well...it's obviously a triple right now.

been a bikie for a long time and find it more fun to turn my own wrenches.  I don't build wheels though...maybe I should learn.

I could suggest you look on Nashbar or Performance for one of their "mechanics toolbox" deals.  Pretty much everything you will ever need and more.

You can always count on Leonard Zinn for up-to-date and accurate info.

Subject: Frustration (not the Soft Cell song)

I misunderstood the doctor's administrative staff and thought that I was going in for my shoulder today. It turns out it was a follow-up for my ITB tendonitis and I thought this appointment was rescheduled but it turns out they had to move it back to the original date (today) and didn't tell me. So, because of a potential fight between my insurance and the Dept. of Labor, he couldn't address my shoulder today.

Turns out, though (unofficial quick-exam) I am much better than expected. It appears that the muscles in my shoulder and upper-back spasmed in reaction to the trauma and in order to prevent a dislocation. It worked and I'm healing up MUCH faster than originally anticipated. I could have probably gone back to work Sunday, but because the doctor can't officially address the shoulder until next thursday, it's not happening. So, I'm stuck taking the next week off, even though it isn't physically necessary. I can't bike or run here in town because my boss might see me and THAT would cause problems at work, so if I feel up to getting on the bike saturday or sunday, I have to drive up to the mountains 45 minutes away. As frustrating as the situation is, at least I know that I'm going to be ok and I just have to go easy for another two or three days.

The first time I hurt this shoulder, it did separate a little but it didn't hurt as much as this time. This time it hurt a lot, but the actual damage was less because of the muscle spasms that caused the pain. Does that count as irony: less pain, more damage; more pain, less damage?

I completely forgot I was supposed to run during my lunch break today.  LOL.  Had a bunch going on at work and just slipped my mind.  Oh well, this is supposed to be a recovery week for me anyway.  I may just run a couple miles after my afternoon ride.

If anyone is interested in a size large Giro Advantage 2 aero helmet, let me know.  Never used, but has a very small ding on the top that you can barely see.  Blue/Black color scheme.  Box it came is is a bit beat up.  Got it from another BTer who said she got it as a demo from an expo.

Going to put this in the classifieds if nobody bites.  Mentor group price is $75 shipped.

FYI, I'm also in another group and will also post there...so PM me if interested.

Good News:  Today, I was promoted out of physical therapy.  My inserts are working well, my stride is much improved and I am up to five 2' run intervals.  So, now it's just a matter of a sensible progression, and I hope to do a 5K in the spring.  Yay!

Yeah, was definitely cranky yesterday...no kidding.  It was really nice weather too...weird how that happens.  I'm impatient with my feet feeling 100%.  I did however get my new bib shorts in yesterday, so I'm psyched to try them out this weekend.  I have a sweet 1:20 on the trainer tomorrow afternoon after work.

What are everyone else's plans for the weekend?

Supposed to  be in the low 50's today...  I would love to run outside for a change.  Hopefully I can get it in while there is still daylight!  If my wife and kids have thier way, maybe not!

Subject: Gatorskins question
I've gone with the Gatorskins tires because I ride in an area known for hostile vegitation (thorns are the norm) and lots of glass on the side of the road (where else would the drunks throw their empty bottles? duh). My girlfriend uses Gatorskins, but said that I should only use them for training, not racing. It has something to do with the tires not gripping well on turns. She's strictly a roaddie and has a route that takes her down some somewhat-steep switchbacks, so I understand her concern about turns, but is this something I should concern myself with? Has anyone else had problems with the Gatorskins not cornering well?

I've never had any problems cornering in them or with them behaving poorly in wet conditions.  They're solid tires and get the job for those training and commuting miles.

You say it like it's a bad thing.  I wear it like a badge of honor.

On a different subject, did you ever decide on a vacation?  I've been looking into similar trips.

Nakdboardr........  Nice Ride!!!

Had a good workout today.  Did 5 miles on the treadmill.  While the temps are up here the wind is crazy so I went to the Y instead of running outside.  I'm pretty sure 5 miles in the longest I have ever run nonstop in my life.  Then right after the run I swam and after warming up did 800 yards at 1:50-1:55/100yd.  Wish I could do flip turns as I know I could shave a little more time off.  I might be able to even get a few more seconds if I went to jammers vs the board shorts I wear but there is no need to subject the rest of the people at the pool to me in some spandex shorts.

The best news of the day is that I have now lost 50 pounds.  Been chasing that number for a while.  It might not be 100% accurate as I think I might be a little dehydrated, but I'll take it.  30 more pounds to my goal.

Beautiful bike. I hope it rides as fast as it looks : )

Sometime during the night I moved my injured arm to scratch my chest or belly (I don't remember which), there was a sharp "popping" sensation, and now my shoulder feels a lot better. I must have knocked something out-of-wack in the impact, and managed to get it back into place last night. The muscles are still sore and stiff, but the tendon doesn't hurt anymore. I should be able to get on the bike today without a problem. I'd like to run or get out on the road, but we have a Wind Advisory with predicted gusts up to 50 mph. So, on the trainer it is. I'm expecting to not need the predicted 2 to 3 weeks recovery, and I'm VERY glad of that.

My original plan for the weekend was to drive up to a lake 75 miles from here and try my new wetsuit. It's a relatively small, artificial lake fed by hot springs, so I was hoping it'd be just warm enough to be tolerable. Well, I'm not quite ready to swim, so that plan is out, but at least I have a plan for another weekend in the next few weeks. I'll just keep running and riding for now.

I hope y'all are having a great weekend so far.

I'm not sure of the actual handling of them, as i've never been on a pair, but on the same vien if you are concerned with speed the training/flat resistant tires are going to be slower.
The same qualities that help prevent flats slow them down a considerable amount and you'll give up a good chunk of speed from that.
