They can always ask me to leave. Happy Birthday! |

Just remember, if they ask you how did you get in? Don't say you jump the 5 ft fence! I did one time and the security guy took me to his office until the principal arrived at 6:30 am, so you may say I got detention.. at the end the security guy told me that if I had said that I access through the OPEN side gate !!!!
Happy birthday !!! Party Party !!! |

I arrived yesterday and am still a little sick, but was able to get in a nice 8mi run in beautiful park El Retiro (which is next to Puerta de Alcala and Museo del Prado). What better way to explore the area, than with a pair of running shoes! http://connect.garmin.com/activity/103943853

Mitch, Just curious, why do you not take days off in between your runs? I thought the idea was to let the body recover, so you either take a day off or do a different sport. I know last month when I hurt my hamstring, I think I took about 4 or 5 days off. I could still feel it when I started up again, but I didn't push it at all. Now I don't even notice it. Just trying to learn everyone's rationale so I can make my own. |

Just trying to learn everyone's rationale so I can make my own. I"ve been working towards increasing run frequency and volume for a while with the goal of running 5 to 6 days a week. Honestly I have been focusing on run events due to time constraints and the adjustment to having an infant / toddler again. Long term I hope to be able to maintain a high run frequency and layer cycling and swimming on top of it. My new job enables me to work out at lunch and that appears to likely be swimming. Next season I hope to have the time and flexibility to layer cycling on top of my shorter and easier run days. I agree with the day off philosophy - most likely will be a monday since my motivation is incredibly low afetr the weekend. After my knee really flared up I took two weeks off of running. It seems to be improved and ended up taking this morning off to not push it too much too fast. <EDIT> So, my lunch appt canceled on me and since I work so close ot home, I ended running 3 miles during my lunch break. Easy pace but a bit warm. I really prefer to run during the morning or late evening. Edited by dangremond 2011-08-05 2:46 PM |

Veteran 445 Chicago, Illinois | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group - CLOSED Hi Ernesto & Gang, Just checking in while I have the opportunity. Work is still crazy but I've been able to "draw a line in the sand" with that and get back to some consistency with my workouts. Sometimes I've just had to follow the advice from one of Mark Allen's videos here on BT, "do as much as you can when you can". Despite the gaps, I do feel Im in the best shape I've been in aerobically and strength wise since I started back running five years ago. I've purposely worked out during the hottest part of the days here which have been in low 90's for the past several weeks (nothing for you Texans, Guatemalans and Australians ) in order to acclimate to what's likely to be a hot (for Chicago) race August 28th. July was my highest monthly bike mileage ever, 220. Which lead to my questions; How do you race an Olympic? I'm sure not all out as a sprint distance may be. Chicago will be a flat race so I shouldn't burn my legs out like I did in Wisconsin. Do you "pace" an olympic distance swim? |

The critical thing is the first few miles of the bike and the first two of the run. Glad to know you've been able to squeeze in some workouts!Hi Ernesto & Gang, Just checking in while I have the opportunity. Good to see you feel in shape and ready for this awesome race! Ernesto is right - you need to take it easy in the beginning of each leg, because the distance will kick your butt, specially in the heat. All out is definately not an option. This is actually a quadrathlon, the first discipline being 'the waiting' for start after you check you bike in at 5am... Your wave could start around 9-10am! Prepare for that waiting or you will be done by the time the gun goes off. Toilet lines are also very long... secure a place if you have to. The rest is a great race. The best I have seen at least. I can't wait to hear your experience! |

Expert 1109 Guatemala | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group - CLOSED Hola Amigos!, Hope everyone is doing well! I just returned from my business trip to Madrid last night and had and incredible time over there. Even though it was a short, long trip, it was very productive plus I got to enjoy great food and wines non-stop until the late hours of the night. Not ideal for tri-training, but "when in Rome..." I'm doing better from my cold and was able to get in 3 good runs, with the last one being a 9-10 miles (stopped my watch by mistake for the extra mile) through-out the whole downtown of Madrid (what a great way to explore a City! Saludos! Good to know you had some vinos and tapas, nothing like Spain for that and some R&R. Keep the relaxation going and remember that your fitness is already there. Trust your training and top off the tank with plenty of rest and good nutrition. Even though some vino is good for you, you need to "flush" your system. This week you should eat plenty of fruits and salads, nuts and lean protein. Forget the carbo loading until one day prior to the race, there's only so much you can store so no point in gourging this early in the week. Training (like we spoke before) should be kept to the minimum as far as distance, but a couple of visits to the track and one velodrome interval session on Wednesday are important to retain fitness, speed has to be there. Even if you feel tired after the sessions don't worry, recovery after short runs and rides is almost immediate. NOTHING LONG FROM NOW ON. |
