Would just like to state for the record that I think our current group sucks!  The Beer Drinkers Appreciate Society was so supportive and so many people we participating.  Our current group is almost not even there... Frankly I blame it on all the Canadians in the groupWink

All right - got to go to bed.  While I am stoked about my workout today - I've got another one tomorrow.

Hey Kevin - how did the race go this weekend?

David are you trying to make me cry...you hurt my one feeling that I have...Laughing

BTW who picked out his lame group...oops.

I agree the group has been weak to say the least. I go on to stay accountable. Now I purposely stay off so I am not dominating it!

David, good to see the run coming around. Just in time for you first race!!

Kevin, you a kickin' the workouts! Great job! Train hard now and the race is easy...well kind of!

I am going to keep posting at the other group, but this will be my main focus?!? What do you guys think?

PS: Had a great little cycle trainer ride this morning and feel refreshed! Had a really blah Monday and did not do a damn thing. Ran yesterday morning.

Okay, I am going to double post this to both groups.

What is a reasonable expectation of improvement? I want to improve my times by 10% over last year, is that reasonable? I am redoing 2-3 of the 4 I did last year(1 sprint and 2 olys).

Last year was my first year. Started training in probably March of last year.

hey, so I stepped on the scale today at my dr office after my long run and there it is, 185 lbs. Wow. I think I was 189 a couple years back, but 185 goes back at least 17 years.

That's a good question. I don't know. If you follow established training practices then I tend to think that your progress will be significant and consistent for 1 or 2 years and continue, although perhaps less so, for another 2 or 3 years. This is kind of a guess based on my impression that some physiological improvements take place rather quickly while others take place only after significant time under consistent stress.

I have finally clawed my way into the top third of my age bracket. My goal is to hit the top 20 percent next year for a couple key repeated races. Perhaps look at your age group as your guide to improvement as opposed to time.

Comparing my training last year to this year...my volume is way up  as well as my consistency! I wish I tracked more last year.

Looks like I decided to do a tri April 13, first swim was May 2.

I am usually MOP. I am hoping for the top 35-40% this year. Time will tell...

Ok beer drinkers had some cheap vodka this weekend; but it tasted like a lil bit of summer in my mouth so i loved it!  I took first for my age group in the 10k I ran and my daughter's first question, "How many people in your age group?" way to harsh my buzz!  Had a good time and was a little concerned when I started that 10K would be too much.

Who is racing this weekend...getting excited for Kev's upcoming mary...just around the corner.

I think the increased milage will help - but there are a lot of other factors that would play a role in your time...

- how quickly you made it through transition
- were you able to go all out at the start of the swim or did you have to wait for people to get out of your way
- weather conditions
- weight loss - especially on the bike (even more if the course if hilly)
- quality of your equipment
- nutrition (both during training and pre race

Can anyone think of anything else?

Beer drinkers all the way!Laughing  I raced last weekend and got 6th out of ag, and 27/188 overall.  I race this sunday, and hope to go under 53 min. for a 12K (7.4miles).  That'll be a personal record for me on this course, but I was a little faster last year, so IDK.  Marathon is the big one May 19th!  3:30:00 or bust!

Kevin - that is fantastic.  Congrats on the improvement and on placing in the top 15% of your AG!  I love your 3:30 goal.  Its is lightening fast - but it will happen!

- how quickly you made it through transition--Should improve!
- were you able to go all out at the start of the swim or did you have to wait for people to get out of your way--I am FOP for swimming but hope to improve on OWS's--sighting etc.
- weather conditions
- weight loss - especially on the bike (even more if the course if hilly)--Hoping to be down another 10lbs
- quality of your equipment--You can polish a turd, but you still have a turd!
- nutrition (both during training and pre race)--should be consistent with last year including a couple beers the night before...

Can anyone think of anything else?

Funny story - I was just trying to explain to my 5th grade son what a homonym is and I used A and Eh? as an example.  When I gave him the following sentence to explain what eh? meant - That's pretty cool, eh... Here was his reply:

"Canadian accents sound so annoying..."

Congrats on the gold medal!  Don't worry - your daughter could have said something worse.  After insulting canadians and their accents - my son came up with another gem: I told him how much weight I had lost.  His reply - "Boy - you were fat!"

OK - I promise this is my last post for the day...and I plan on double posting...

I stepped on the scale this morning and discovered that I had dropped below 200 pounds for the first time in more than a decade...  I never want to go back!  63 pounds lost and 30 more to go.

Hmm... which beer will I have to celebrate!

My thoughts are if you can look at your times in training now to relative time last year, then you could compare times and make goals on current training times vs. last years race time.

Vodka counts, right Beer drinkers?  I mean, I drink bottom shelf whiskey straight up and enjoy myself the whole time. Laughing

I have a 12K this weekend that I have done the last 2 years.  Yr1. I finished at 57 min.  Yr. 2 at 53 min.  What will this year hold?  I think I was faster last year on the short runs, so IDK.  Plus I'm training hard until the day of race, so no taper.  Merely a short training run with 50K other people.  What a madhouse.

This is too funny.  I used to have a friend in HS from BC, and I used to say B, C, D when he used the A in conversation.  I thought it was pretty amusing.  I like the homynym lesson though.  That's good stuff.

Here it is Beer drinkers.  Last year, 6.2 mile run 45:53.  This year on the same day 45:17.  Heading into 12K where I went for 53 min. last year.  Hoping to go sub 53 this year.  Heading into marathon where I went 3:46 last year.  Hoping for sub 3:30 this year.  It's 3 weeks away, and I'm getting a little amped up.  Inversion IPA tonight as celebration.  Just 1.  I've got a 21 mile "easy" ride planned tomorrow followed by 4.6 mile run.

Happy training.
