Master 1952 Guelph, Ontario | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL tahrens - 2008-09-09 9:39 AM I know I'm naive, but if the 5-fingered shoes are designed to give you the benefits of running barefoot, why not just run barefoot in the grass and save $90? If you can spell naive then your not. I was thinking the same thing. I did a lot of barefoot running etc when I was doing karate and my feet got very tough. Lots of calluses. |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL I guess that persums you have grass where you live. Ya don't have to buy them, don't have to run barefoot, don't have to run with the pad first running format, don't have to use a shock aborption treadmill... are a lot of things you don't have to do. I do, it works for me and I do "just run" as well. This week however is bike focused so 11.5 hours on the bike for me this week. Losing daylight is gona suck for the bike, bearly got home before sunset lastnight and it is only gona get worse. BTW I use a trainer in the winter. You don't have to. |

I would like to get one but the cheapest one they had was $50! That seems steep to me for basically a rubber tube with plastic beads on it. Does anyone know of a cheaper option? |

Someone was selling a bunch of them over in the classifieds for $25 plus shipping. I've never used one, but have heard good things. I've also heard that foam rollers are the shiznit as well. |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Marathon Sticks typically run $20-30. They are really good for tight muscles, especially those calf muscles right behind the knee after really long bike rides or that shin muscle just outside the tibia on the front of your leg. They work by separating knots of muscle that have clumped together and allows the muscles to relax and recoup faster. I have one and use it on tight muscles, it works pretty good. This does not mean that you have to buy one I am just adding a bit to what it is and such. I also ice my knees on down my shins to the tops of my feet on runs over 6 miles to help avoid those shin splints and other related unpleasantries from running. I haven't had any leg issues in the past 6 months... other than that they don't move me as fast as I would like them too 8). Edited by Baowolf 2008-09-09 3:58 PM |

I have been trying to stay faithful to my ne program but it has been a battle. It was a nice relaxing week last week. Holiday Monday, then 2 days of work then 2 days of free golfing. now back to reality. We are trying to sell our house now as well so that has not been fun. Steve great picks, I am totally jealous, I haven't had my backpack on for about 3 years now. I have the Marathon stick and it works great, I don't use it as much as I should but when you do, boy you feel it. |

Pasman-- Listen hear you lazy ... Next time you are scheduled for a run, and can think of every excuse think about us, and all the crap we will give you if you don't go out... And think of all the praise you will get when you get back and tell us about the workout!! Just playing (sort of!)..... There will times during a race that you will struggle and you can tell yourself that you have worked your tail off to get where you are at, and made many sacrifice's to be able to race..... If you don't push yourself how are things ever going to get better....
MORE IMPORTANTLY.... HANG IN THERE!!!!!!!!! |

Master 1952 Guelph, Ontario | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Hey Perry. Good to see you back. We had talked a little about the motivation a while back and as Steve's wife was saying ." suck it up".. Just having a little fun at your expense instead of Tracy's for a change (you know we love you Tracy). Stick with it Perry you will get over this soft spot. Also maybe try doing something else to supplement your training. I am starting hockey again the day after my last triathlon and I am really looking forward to it. I am also going to the gym where I workout as they have a number of other activities and classes that I am looking into for the winter months. Good luck with the house sale. I hope you sell quickly. I know what a pian those things are like. |

Master 2436 Apex, north carolina | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL I need some "fashion" advise for my race next week. (OMG is it really next week?!?!?!) It is going to be wet and cold - and I think I might have mentioned that I am slightly put out by that idea. So, what do I wear? The wetsuit rental should be arriving any day now, but that leaves me to wonder what to wear under it. Is it better to wear minimal amounts under it and then put on layers at transition, that way I won't be racing in wet clothes? The idea of a wet head and clothes with the cold wind on a bike is not good. I have arm warmers and full gloves, but should I try to wrestle on a long sleeve under armor in T1 (rather than swim with it on?) I would rather be warm than fighting to keep from shivering on the bike. HELP!!! |

Expert 1231 B'ham | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL It's hard to give fashion advice when you didn't tell us what color your tri top, Under Armour and arm warmers are and if they would match your helmet and tri shorts. Having never raced in the cold, I can't really give solid advice. What I'd probably do is wear my normal tri stuff under the wetsuit and then go with the arm warmers and gloves in T1. I chose the arm warmers for ease of removal if you get warm, and not having a layer over your tri top will allow it to dry faster. |

You're right. Because I'll be going slow enough for the camera man to have time to take lots of pictures, so it's important that I as least look good! |
