wurkit_gurl - 2008-07-17 7:48 PM Holy carp, where was I while you were talking about church music?!! I sing with our choir at the 9 am service. Our choir is okay. The altos kinda suck. We never have enough tenors. Generally do decent music, though. Our 11am service worship band is good, but I like being done by 10:30, and they also do the Saturday night services and rehearse a lot more during the week. They do contemporary stuff and they have drums and a bass, but they're not SUPER rock-concert-like. Our young adult service worship band needs some serious help, and I'd join them except that they rehearse the same night as choir, and the choirfolk would be really sad if I quit.

Somehow I get the feeling you're a soprano? Most of the alto sections I've been in have had they challenges, but I can't take high diva concentration of the soprano section. I know it's not all sopranos, but I think most choirs generally exceed the EPA guidelines.

It is true - I am a soprano. But I've known some good altos - we just don't have any in our choir. They are all super-quiet, so you need twice as many to hear them.

Ha! We talked about super quiet altos a few pages ago. I think that I am a pretty good alto, well technically you could say mezzo, but I've never really committed to it. Personally I'm happy just singing harmony in a really good chorus, I don't need anything more than that. Though I sometimes think I should switch the amount of time I spend on triathlons and singing because I spend a lot more time working on the one that I don't have much talent in. Of course singing isn't likely to help prevent heart disease or type II diabetes so there's that.

That's the thing - we don't have many altos who are good with harmony. We don't have a ton of folks who have great musicianship, but alto is where you really need that! We have a lot of "sopranos" but only a few of us who are actually good. Many of the others are kinda quiet, etc. I'm sort of their golden child because 1.) I'm under 30, and most of them are old enough to be my parents and 2.) I'm a trained singer and have good musicianship.

That works out here too.  If I miss a Sunday they all act so happy to see me when I get back.

I've had to work hard for this choir, with my old church choir I was about the only tenor so I had to sing pretty loud all the time.  Here we have a bunch, so if I sing loud, we accidentally drown out whole other parts.

Yeah, good quality tenors are a hotter commodity than good altos.

Just realized two things.

1.) I passed 1000 posts a minute ago and didn't even realize it.

2.) My brain has been stuck in a loop of saying "I want chocolate" for at least 30 minutes. And I just finished dinner.

1. Hot diggity. 2. Give in. You deserve it now and then. Right?

Already gave in today, twice actually.  Cookies with lunch and some candy in the afternoon.  I'm just so hungry still.  I saw a nutritionist a few weeks ago and they said I need to up my calorie intake so that I have energy to burn, but it's so hard to take in enough cals without eating a ton of junk food.

Naw, that's not what I meant. I mean, finding decent tenors is just exceedingly hard. Most women can at least fake the alto line. A lot of guys can't sing that high.

Eh, forgot to add the red font.  I know tenors are hard to find.  Basses just won't/can't make the switch.  And when they do it's usually not pretty.  That's one of the reasons why I've continued to sing as long as I have.  I also enjoy it, unless we're singing the Hallelujah Chorus.  That is an excessively hard tenor line that I can just never get without straining.

Spokes - 2008-07-17 8:10 PM Hmmm... my kids are watching "Total Drama Island"

Is it any good?

I remember when I was a kid, all we were allowed to watch were re-runs of Get Smart, and some cartoons ( I was a huge fan of Transformers ). That reminds me, I need to go see the Get Smart movie.

We watched a lot of Transformers, Voltron, and Thundercats! I was reading the Cake Wreck Blog listed in CoJ and it mentioned Double Dare! I had completely forgotten about that show.

Have you gone back and watched any of those? I'm so spoiled by CGI now that that animation looks just terrible, but I still loved the shows. I'm actually glad that I got rid of my TV service and had to look for ways to watch shows online. It's much more entertaining to see what you really wanted to watch instead of watching whatever was on in that time slot.

No, I haven't.  Are you trying to ruin my memories and retroactively destroy my childhood?  That's not cool man.

Yeah, it always seems that the tenor section is the smallest.  That's probably not true in big professional choirs like the Mormon and Harlem Tabernacle Choirs, but most other choirs, it always seems like tenor sections are the smallest.

Probably a statement on how lame I am, but I've been missing sleep recently because Thundarr the Barbarian is on Boom at midnight. You'd think I'd just Tivo it, but no, I stay up late. . .

I sang tenor in our Episcopal church for a while. For some reason the tenor section was huge. Then my wife had our middle kid and I quit going to choir then we quit going to church (especially after the third one). We keep thinking we should go back, but there's always things to do.

How about "What should I do with all the ex's stuff since she won't come get it?"

Or "Just how vindictive will I feel on the day everything is finalized? Ruin someone's day vindictive or ruin someone's YEAR vindictive?"

Or "How soon is too soon to get back in the game?"

Hmmm...can't really say on the first two accounts, but how long were you together, and how long has it been since you split up? That will determine how soon is too soon - at least from a chicks' perspective

The Meeps real name is Lady. She doesn't really use it though.

Let's see... Together 7 years, married 2 weeks short of 5 years when I gave her the boot. Separated since May 10th +/- a day or so.

Found out (I had an idea, but just got proof in May) that she was cheating on me for 4 out of the 5 years we were married.

Yes, you read that right. Many a jaw has dropped when I tell the story.

Define just what you want to do by saying "back in the game"

Donate anything you can't use. No reason to throw out anything useful just because she won't come to get it.

Just how vindictive do you feel like being? I mean, this was kind of a surprise to you, was it not? How much of your time has this ruined? Maybe apply the same concept to your vindictiveness. Or just be happy that you'll eventually be in a better situation and simply part ways. Whichever seems to be the better idea.

Edit: Ok, so not so much a surprise.  Still, I think the same concepts apply.
