![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I forgot to post my weight for the week right now I'm 218. I guess all this working out is starting to pay off because my diet is very bad... |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I complain about 5 am workouts but also love the feeling when I am done. I really have no other option but to workout at that time with work and young kids. I tend to toss and turn every night so I don't go to bed until 10:30-11:00. I average about 5 hours sleep a night. I am so used to it now. Can't wait for 5 am trail and road rides. So tired of being stationary on the trainer. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() regarding early AM workouts...I always kind of wondered if I should mix in an early one at least once in a while simply to "simulate" the eating, effort, etc. at that time of day for events. I imagine it wouldn't be a bad thing to do, at least. |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Its supposed to warm up today, but this morning it was cold, windy and damp. Too nasty for running outdoors. I'll have to hit the 'mill tonight after the gym, after swimming, and after a class at the local bar association. Its going to be a long night. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Feel like I have "leg flu" this morning so I spent the morning going through all my training clothes and sorting out the ones I don;t wear to post on the "pay it forward" thread. Long swim mid-day today and then a recovery run tonight. Hopefully the leg flu will be gone by tomorrow as I have both a tempo ride and run. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() VP in town and supposed to go to dinner with him...not sure if I'm getting in a swim or not after work, depends on timing. But I'm taking my gym bag with me just in case I have enough time between work and dinner. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I wasn't feeling so hot yesterday after work - so, I bagged the gym (swim/run) plans. I went home, got under my favorite blanket, drank a few glasses of Airborne, and watched a movie. Also, no workout this am. :-( I did bring my gym bag to work and hope to feel well enough later to get a swim in and possibly a spin session at my local LBS. (fingers crossed). On a better note: I registered for the Soma HIM yesterday - so, it's on! For those that have completed halfs, can you give me a quick rundown of your race nutrition plans? |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I was "off" yesterday but chugged out a 43 minute ride on the trainer. Today feeling much better and have hit the pool at 5:30 and now am going to go out and run before the weather changes. Big storm supposed to roll in-we will just get the wind and cold probably. As for morning workouts-as much as I hate getting out of bed-onece I'm rolling I really feel great the rest of the day. As soon as the weather turns I will do most of my summer workouts early (Finish before 8:00 am) While it doesn't simumlate the races because I am in the old lady start last category, it helps me because it is easy to get up early to get the race with ample time to warm up and watch all the others. |

Generally for a half: Breakfast (2 hours before start) -- Powerbar and applesauce 45 Minutes before start - Powerbar 10 minute before start - Gel As soon as I get on the bike - 1/2 Power Bar Throughout the bike - 2 to 3 bottles of Infinit (about 250 calories per bottle) and the other half of the Powerbar Run - Gels at miles 1, 4, 8 and 11 and as much water and gatorade as I can get running through the aid stations Also -- Salt tabs, once and hour 2 to 3 salt stick tabs. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Up early for a run this morning because my 4 year old had a party at her school. I experienced some mild pain. I ran through it and stretched really well. It feels better now, but I'm going to ice it on and off. It's so bizarre. The pain only bothers me when I run. I'm calling the Run Smart program at the Clinic later. PT said I swing my left foot out to the side (medial something or other....can't remember the name) & occasionally knock knees (could be a sign of hip abductor weakness??) when I run. I need some sports medicine guys to take a closer look. They actually make a video of your running and give it to you. They also create a program based on your particular weaknesses. I think I could really benefit from the help. Edited by jarvy01 2011-02-16 12:13 PM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sorry been MIA for a few days guys. Work is crazy and whacked my knee yesterday at work, so skipped last night and this am's workout. Question (I also posted on a forum): I want to get a good swim watch that counts laps and gives time/splits. Something that is easy to see/read in the water and preferably and automatic counter (not one I have to stop and hit a button) Anyone have a good watch they really like and that does a good job? If so, can you tell me the +'s/-'s and include a link or the exact name of the watch. Thanks a bunch!!! |

If so, can you tell me the +'s/-'s and include a link or the exact name of the watch. Thanks a bunch!!! What you're probably really looking for is the Swim-o-vate watch (I think that's the name). Other people can tell you about that. There are also "ring" style counter/timers that you can tap with your thumb to get times and counts. Other people can tell you about that. I can tell you about my Timex watch with interval timers. Just the basic sports watch. I do two things with it: If I'm swimming sets of something, I'll set the interval timer for my projected speed and a second timer with my rest. So if I am doing 10x200 which will take me around 8:10, I'll set timer 1 at 8:10 and timer 2 for maybe 0:30 for rest and it just cycles through (and keeps count) If I'm swimming an odd series of stuff I'll use the stop watch and punch the lap button at the end of each 100, 400, 200 or whatever, and punch it again when I start back up. I'd like the nice fancy automatic watch, but my $19.99 timex does just fine. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Tired this morning and my whole body is sore. I'm really feeling the last 4 or 5 weeks of training. Today tempo-ish run this morning and then a tempo-ish bike on the trainer tonight. Supposed to hit 50 today, but not enough daylight to run outside. |

I was up early this am and out for a 6 mile run. I'm going to have to ditch a layer if it stays this warm. It felt great to be out in a comfortable 37 degrees. |

My goal was to be on the bike this past Monday - that didn't work. Hopefully in a week or two I'll be back on the roads too. Riding in the dark is going to be TOUGH this spring - the roads here are just all beat to h377. I've got a set of rollers I have to try out, and that might be my training for the next month or so. Yes, most of my training is done in the dark. Tough to work a 10 hour day, spend time with the wife and train without some adjustments. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've been itching to get wheels down this week so I put aside my previous experiences with riding before dawn and went out this morning. Good ride. Stopped at the gym on the way home and rocked out a push weight day. So far today is pain free. TBH I think I developed the same IT issues, to a lesser extent, in my right leg I had in my left. Over compensating is my guess. My therapist said I have the same muscle imbalances in both legs so it's not that surprising. Anyway she pinpointed my run form as the culprit of my injuries so thanks for the article Kelly. Supposed to get a long ride in on Saturday, but I've seen a preview of my "Honey Do" list for the weekend and I'm not sure that is going to happen. |
