kevinbe - 2012-05-02 9:36 PM One more post.  Congratulations to my wife who went from 283 down to 167.  That's 115 lbs lost to date ladies and gents.  10 more lbs to get to her goal weight.  She is now signing me up for 10K's to do with her.  I love it!  I can't wait to sign her up for her first half mary!

Holy Crap!  My wife has lost thirty and she looks incredible.. Your wife must be looking like a super model!  So glad your guys are doing it together... A family who sweats together - stays together...

Hey Kev - Good luck on these goals.  You've got it in you to make it happen!  Also glad to hear you are on track in regards to the beer.  Gotta reward yourself for all that hard work, eh?

Proof that somethings change and somethings remain the same... I'm leaving a conference here in Boston to go have beers with a buddy who works in town but I'm walking the 4 miles to get there.  Gonna have an extra beer to reward myself.  The place is called Yard House - do they have those out there in Oregon?  I'm hoping they have some beers from out west.  If so - I'm ginna try an inversion IPA

Have a great weekend gentlemen!

Alright Beer Drinkers, Here it is.  Unnoficial 52:34 for Lilac Bloomsday 12K 7:03/mi pace.  I almost threw up at the line, but thought that wouldn't be cool, so I held it in.Laughing

Nice job on the race, although i would have like to see you throwup, especially if they had a camera running at the line like some races!

 Good to see improvement!

Good to see there are a few beers left over from last night! Enjoy them!

I will join you for a beer. I am going to have my cheapo cut the grass beer!

Congrats of the time!  Iron man or bust, baby!

As for the puking - clearly you never were a part of a cross-country team where puking was a badge of honor.  If so, you'd have been begging the official photographer to get a picture of you blowing chunks!  That would be something to put on the wall!

So last night, I'm lying in bed reading the forum (which I feel is getting better by the way) and my wife is trying to get to sleep.  Here's the conversation:

Heidi: Are you almost done talking to your buddies...

DQ: Sorry honey -

HQ: It's not like you're just lying there reading.  No, your making all sorts of noise (at which point she rolls over and starts beating on the keyboard to make her point).  It bet you it annoys their wives too.  You all should just join a commune...

DQ: That would be awesome - a beer drinking commune...

HQ: Yea (total sarcasm) that would be great...

BigDH - 2012-05-02 10:58 AM hey, so I stepped on the scale today at my dr office after my long run and there it is, 185 lbs. Wow. I think I was 189 a couple years back, but 185 goes back at least 17 years.

So - 185 in your clothes... that's outstanding!!!  Is that your ultimate goal or do you have more to lose?

I got this dream of 175. I totally could get there with some portion control, but I am not quite that motivated yet. Although the more I think about dragging my butt on a 100 mile race the more I think losing another 10 pounds would be helpful.

Well my dream is 190.

Dave and Kevin are also on the weight loss train. What are you dream weights?

I have just started tracking my eating again in hopes of getting to 190 for at least one of my triathlons!

Too funny! My wife is just happy  to run with me. I used to hate running...hold it, I still do! Okay she is just happy to ask me to go for a run and me accept.

Just tell her that this allows here to see you in spandex/trisuit this weekend!

It is funny though. I remember thinking when I was 250 that 220 would be a good weight, then 210, then 200, then 195. I have heard that from a lot of guys who used to be bigger. Really, I probably could get down to 165 and not look too skinny. Funny how your idea of what is healthy and obtainable changes.

Very true! I was exactly the same way! I guess it is just tackling the weight loss in small bites.

Although I am 6' tall, I would be hard pressed to get down much past 190 but I guess I will see about that when I get to 190!

Yeah I am 6 feet too. And big boned, as I like to say. My shoulders give me a deceptively narrow waist. I used to think that skinny people were slight framed or something. Then I met some martial arts dudes with wide shoulders and narrow waists and 6 packs that were as tall as me and weighed 170 lbs. And I realized, just have less fat.

Never have truer words been said... We have all redefined what we perceived to be healthy... It's funny... I've still got 30 pounds to lose and people at work as driving me nuts with - "Oh, my god... you can't lose any more weight.  Enough already."  But the reason they think that is because they only know the old fat Dave... I still have a gut but my face is thinner... so they think I'm where I should be.  In my opinion - my dream (let's just call it my future weight) 170.

170 is also Kevin's goal weight... He's got 3 months to get there or I'm drinking for free!!!  Keep up the weight loss Kevin - you know you hate to lose (so to speak)...

Check out the current page of our new forum group - it's the Kevin, Thor, and page page... 6 posts... no one else...  I get more writing out of bored sixth grade students in my history class...

Missed my run this afternoon... I figure it's not the worst thing in the word with the race coming up.

I just finished my beer for the night - Slam Dunkel - it's a double dunkelweizen from Weyerbacher... 7% abv... so good!

How's everyone doing?

I am starting to feel self conscious  about posting there! Moonrocket posts as well but slim pickings after that!

I was noticing the lack of activity on your training Dave...was going to ride you on it until I remembered your race...any pre race jitters? Is it a pool swim? lake? ocean? large toilet bowl?

Remember to enjoy yourself. In the end the person you are racing is yourself!

I went for a swim tonight...got about a good 15 minutes until my son wanted to swim with me...I will sacrifice my training to train with him everyday. Enjoyed it for the 200 meters he swam with me.

Swim lessons narrowed down lap swim to a single lane after that and off to watch my daughter's swim lessons I went. 1 average, 1 slow, i can live with but a older couple floundering and stopping every 5-10 meters joined us...I left.

Kevin, where are you? You haven't went and joined a beer commune without us have you?

Nope, can't get rid of me that easy.  I've just been enjoying everyone's posts.  I have been debating how to aproach this marathon taper.  Each day, I want to work out, but it's pool and bike that get my body so sore that I also want to take er easy for the run in 10 days.

Here's something I've been thinking about.  I've never had a bigger goal in training than for upcoming Marathon.  I've been going for this since January.  That's a lot of build up for this thing 10 days away.  I'm pondering this while reading your posts and finishing up on the Corona's.

David, The imbibing has me up over the 180 mark again.   You may be drinking for free yet.

I say go easy on the biking/swimming, you will have plenty of time for that in 10 days! Taper like you are supposed to and give your body a chance to build itself up!

Yeah, I am cutting back on my beer a bit! It is times like this I am thankful for the overtaxed beer in Canada and the fact most liquor stores sell the beers in 6pks not singles! I don't like spending $12-15 on a 6pk of beer I may or may not like!

Morning Gentlemen - im posting for the first time on my phone so we will see how that goes.

Thanks for the accountability Thor - I aprreciate you keeping track. I skipped/decided against a workout yesterday because my legs felt heavy and tired all day long. I walk a lot around the campus where I work and found myself getting tired as I walked up steps. I chalked it up to the fact that my body needs a break before going all Kevin on that race on Sunday. My goal is to puke and set a higher standard for Kevin.

Kevin - the goal of the taper as u know is to recharge your body by resting while at the same time getting just enough exercise so that you don't feel flat during the race. Since you're running - don't worry about skipping the biking/swimming workouts if they run counter to your goal of feeling rested. My advice to you is to change the way you run as you get closer to your race. Tapering is about reduced miliage but it's also about slowi g down and getting extra sleep. Also take a look at your nutrition to make sure you are getting the right balance of carbs (complex) and proteins and fats. Caution is key - you won't get any faster in the next 10 days but pushing too hard could really slow you down. Gonna hit the treadmill - lets see if I can follow my own advice...

Puking only counts if it is from exertion, not too many beers! Laughing

Tapering is tough work. If you figure it out let me know. I am at the point where I am always sore and if I am not sore I feel like something is wrong. The other problem is the diet, when you tone down you training you need to tone the diet down a bit too.

Going easy for 10 days won't hurt you. Using the extra time you gain from not training to drink extra beer might though.

Qua17 - 2012-05-10 4:13 AM Morning Gentlemen - im posting for the first time on my phone so we will see how that goes.

Unfortunately for me I think my body is wired such that I am likely to explode from the other end prior to puking.

So I did not follow anyones advice.  I got on the road this afternoon.  I said this afternoon.  I have not ridden in the p.m. yet.  It was awesome to not be out in sweats and longjohns.  It's still in the 30's here in the a.m. and it is almost unbearable riding in.

Alright, so my goal was to go for a leisurly pace on 13 miler.  Instead, I realized for the first time that you could use the drop bars with great success and improve pace.  I rode the whole 50 min. except for the hills in "the drops"  wow what a difference.  My legs are sore.  It's hard not to work out.  I think I will throw in a swim week next week and run 3 small runs so that I do not have sore legs.  I think I can do intermediate and longer swims and work on form so that I can help my legs going into saturday.  I do not know what to do about the beer consumption however.  Hopefully, I can forgo a few days prior to run and carbo load so that I give myself the best chance at a pr.

Go get em this weekend David.  At this point, I almost expect to read about you puking as you cross the line in your race report.Smile
