Couple of questions for you guys before we start the cycling program. My Garmin does not have a normalized power display, but it does have a 30 second average power display. Is this the same thing? Once I know my FTP, if the workout calls for me to be at 75-85% of FTP, should I be looking at "Power" which is the wattage I'm at that second, or at the 30second power average?

You guys starting witht he two pre-weeks or jumping right into the week 1 power tests?

When you do your tests don't forget to get access to the spreadsheet from Jorge so you can record your stuff.

I don't care.  I know my FTP has plummeted.

Only thing dropping faster than that around here is my swim skills!

A little FYI, if your cleaning your bike.  Baby Wipes work wonders!  I installed a new bottom bracket yesterday and was amazed at how they cut through bike grease.

None of the Garmins have a normalized power output.  Not that you'd want it for intervals or the power test, anyway.

Don't you have the 310?  The new firmware has a 3s power average.  30s is too long for intervals.  I'd go with instant or 3s, if you can get it.

I've got the edge 705. It does have a 3s display. Thanks

The only computer I've seen provide NP is/was the Ergomo head unit.

If you have the 310xt, go to Garmin's website, then products, then find the 310xt. There should be a thing there for updates. Fire up the ANT agent and it'll do it's thing. I did mine over the weekend and it took about 8-10mins for the update to go through. Not a bad thing.

Talking about skill falling, the only thing I've been keeping up with lately is the run and even that's sporadic. I did get notice my pool will be closing Dec 12 - Jan 1, so I guess that means I should be on the  bike the days I'd normally swim. I'm going to try it and see where it gets me. I have a few pounds to lose, and some bike fitness to gain!

And if we start next week, I'm in! But I'll be going off HR instead of Watts. I know, I'm behind, but like Mark said, the "hobby money" has been spent...

You could get a note from your Y to attend another.  I did that when mine closed this spring.  BTW - this just popped up.  Just sayin'.

BTW, killer month Jason - you're gonna kill the Mercedes!

This may seem like a dumb question, but isn't an "international" race a specific distance?  I'm looking a races for next year and found one by my parents house.  Last year the race was listed as "International Distance" and was 1500m, 40k, 10k.  This year it's also listed as "International" but is 1000m, 21k 8k.  Seems strange to me.

November's totals:
Bike:5h 45m  - 103.8 Mi
Run:13h 07m 17s  - 103.81 Mi
Swim:1h 15m 55s  - 4400 Yd
Strength:5h 30m

Wow, I ran more than I biked.

I thought International and Olympic were the same thing.

Or does international mean metric distances.

I thought so too.   But it looks like Olympic means one thing and International means "longer than a sprint but not a HIM"

Bonktown has had some UVEX aero helmets on there a few times.

What I want?  Biking stuff.   I have survived the past year with two bike shorts and one jersey.  Time to expand the collection.

I asked for a bike work stand and a copy of Zinn's maintenance book.  And an HTC Columbia Jersey because I figure after Jorge's training plan I'll be able to give Cav a run for his money. :-D

Hope the group is doing well.  I have been out of sorts since the IM.  I really messed up my knee.  I had it checked by a Sports Doc and they still think it is the IT band and no tear.  I have been going to PT this week and it feels much better.  I am hoping to ride this weekend with no discomfort.  I am going to continue not to run for one more week which would make four weeks of no running since the IM.

I have learned so much about this injury and what I should have and could have done to head it off at the pass.  I guess the 20 year old mind and 50 year old body get in the way some times.  I was and am worried about losing some of my fitness but I know in the long run it will help me next year and about May my first HIM

Jason - great running month!!

I thought I was doing good with 83ish miles on the run, but I guess not. Very nice! You sir will be ready and crush Mercedes. Planning on running Red Nose as a "preperation run" too?

For the holiday gift requests:
- the stick (travel size and full size)
- more shoes (brooks beasts 2E size 10.5)
- tri shorts (x2)

Other than that, I think I'm good actually...
