abake - 2012-02-08 6:31 AM Good morning MTITs! Tapering a bit this week for a half marathon on Sunday, so keeping things light. Probably a trainer ride tonight.

the race is on Sunday, so my goal is to finish by Tuesday...

Best of luck in your 1/2 mary on Sunday, Anne! Tampa sounds great.

I'm doing my first race of the year on Saturday -- "Du the Three Bears Duathlon," near the Cal-Berkeley campus. I guess the bike route has three distinct hills to it -- Baby, Mama, and Papa.  I'm opting out of the porridge, but it should be fun...

Anybody else racing this weekend?

-Steve

Work has been tough this week.  I was going to get lazy and take the day off but all the smack talk got me going.  Went to work about 6:30 this morning and worked until about 8:45PM.  Went and ran about 45 minutes and then back to work until 10:30.  Came home and got on the trainer for 1:05:00.  Sure didn't want to workout tonight but I feel much better now

Post padding Carla? Wink

Looking into getting compression calf sleeves or socks.  The last couple days clinched it...I need something, as I'm a little prone to calf soreness (maybe once a month).  Only muscle soreness, not shin splints or anything serious.  I usually treat it with heating pad, but that seems to take a little too "long" to get better.

I'm sure some of you have experience.    I'm not sure whether to get the full sock or the calf sleeves.

The one thing that's scaring me off from the calf sleeves is I may suffer some issues with my feet swelling.

Will it matter if I wear them during running for long distances (6+ miles...I didn't even have problems with my calves during both HM...only quads)? Or should I just get the recovery socks and wear them afterwards?   I don't even remember the last time I had calf cramping/soreness *while* running.    The reason why I'm asking is I'm looking at CEP Recovery Socks, and it's recommended not to wear them while running, but I figure that if I use it during running once in a while for very long runs, it won't hurt. I could be wrong, but just wanted to know.

This is my first compression garment.

Thanks!

If your budget can handle it I would get both the recovery sock that will give compression to the foot and calf AND the Calf Sleeve.

I wear compression all the time!  I just like the way it feels.  While I understand there is a theraputic aspect to wearing them, I can honestly say it's more of a "fashion statement" for me.

However, during VERY long runs or after racing I am always VERY glad that I had the compression on during the race.

*  Calf Sleeve - Can put on before swim of race and only have to focus on short socks in T1
*  Full Compression Sock - Gives compression to the arch of the foot, which is nice at mile 20 of the Ironman Run!

Let us know what you go with! ~Carla

I am digging all the SMACK TALK in this group! Talk about a bunch of motivated T.I.Ts!

My Thursday workouts will be kind of bizarre and strange --- I am an extra in a commercial for a local tri series. The RD is a friend and he landed a cable/internet company as a sponsor. There are about 20 triathletes lined up to be in the commercial. There are two races coming up in April and the RD wants to really promote this as a great beginners race. So to cater to that demographic, I am leaving the carbon tri bike at home and taking my mountain bike and wearing just regular shorts and shirt as opposed to tri kit. He thinks he has lined up someone with a beach cruiser, which should be a riot. I don't know if they are planning to go out on the road to shoot footage or how this will be accomplished.

Keep us posted of your debut!  How wonderful and very exciting!  If they offer you a version of the video clip, please share it with us!  Please sign a photo of yourself and send it to me!  I want to get ready to sell it on eBay when you are famous!

Gator22 - Usually I do sleep, but may not tonight!  Too much to do... no internet at work... getting "paralyzingly behind" on so many fronts... had to make a break through today rather than wait...

"Quazi Modo Shuffling" ... yes, I can appreciate this term!!

I have used the 2XU sleeves for recovery.  Their ok I guess, didn't notice a big difference one way or the other.  I don't recall ever wearing them while running though.  I do have a friend, who is also a PT (and quite active on BT) that wears the sleeves for almost every run.  He has had some calf injuries and I am guessing that he sees value in wearing them.

Cant help on the socks, but I am sure they have a reason why they recommend not wearing them.

I don't race or train with compression. However, I recently waited dilegently till a pair of compression tights came up on gearscan.com . Got them for $35! I love them. Wear them all the time at night and after workouts.

Nice workout Wesley!

I have no smack talk for yesterday but have a killer interval/hill workout planned for the treadmill tonight!!!

LOL you are cracking me up! I blogged a little about the experience over on my BT blog.  Mostly it was a lot of starting, stopping, freezing in the cold! I will try to find out when the commercial comes out and get a clip!!
