If he's dressin up as a bowling ball you should push him over so he can't get up then spin him around and around until he upchucks, then flip him over so he's staring at the puddle all day. Everynow and then you could kick him.

Now THAT would be great TV!!!

If I were in charge, and my employees tried to make me doing anything even remotely festive during work hours, especially if there was no beer involved, there'd be a whole lot of open positions the next day.

Bah, humbug, the lot of you.

And yet another thing we are ALL thankful for. Plus, being in charge would REALLY eat into your TAN time.

You're just jealous of my awesomeness.

trust me, it wasn't my idea - i'm not so sure how he'll react

on a totally different note - so, I've been dealing with PF since May - I think it is finally getting better - i'm going to give running a try again starting in december in the meantime, I've been doing the eliptical - my question is

is doing the eliptical beneficial to running at all - or will it still be like starting all over again?

It depends on what you mean by starting all over again.

You will still have some fitness.  It just won't be running-specific.  Plus, coming off injury, you're going to want to start slow, and with low mileage to build strength and ensure that you're not going to reinjure yourself.

Short answer: you're not quite at square zero, but you're set back.  Just how far back is hard to tell.

I'm guessing it is not bad for cardio, but it doesn't do diddly poo for your knees.  Found that out after doing eliptical for a long time then figuring I should be able to run no problem.  Knees yelled at me for a week!

Artemis - 2007-10-30 2:13 PM I heard a couple of good costume ideas: a knockout mouse (mouse ears and boxing gloves) or partly cloudy (blue scrubs with clouds taped on).  I don't think I'm going to dress up, though.  A shame.  I like Halloween.

We're actually doing a department thing - Our boss is dressing up like a bowling ball and we are dressing up as the pins - he doesn't know it yet though

We, at our company, don't dress up for Halloween. It exudes unprofessionalism.

Then how in the hell do you keep your job?

Eh, it's seldom easy.  That's sorta the point.

You'll be fine, trust me.

I know this guy on another website.  He's managed to put in something like 2-3k miles this year in running.  Plus, he had a fracture (I forget what exactly, though), and he missed a few weeks.  Someone asked him if he felt the time off for the injury was a good thing.  He said it was, because it forced him to rest.

And, for the record, he does tri's and du's in the summer, which is his "off" season.

wowsa!

well, i am not a natural runner (which you have probably picked up on)

and, i haven't run since june - well, I tried a few times but could hardly walk afterwards, so this has been a LONG rest from running - i still have plenty of cardio endurance from swimming and biking

soooo, i guess i will do my best, start slow and see how it goes :-)

Scout's advice is pretty good, though. Start slow, take it easy... have you bought a trainer?

nope, not yet

well, i am not a natural runner (which you have probably picked up on)

Now, personally, I believe this statement is at best patently false, and at worse, a self-fulfilling prophecy.

The human body is, by its very construction, designed for long, slower, running.  So unless you've managed to change a few thousand years of evolutionary advancements, you have the requisites to be a runner.

Now, as for the second part.  People who "suck" at running are the ones who say they suck at running, or hate it.  You obviously don't hate it, otherwise you'd never consider training for a triathlon.  So, let's drop the "hate running".

It's uncomfortable.  Hell, it downright hurts sometimes.  But it gets better.  And that's ultimately the goal.  To improve.  Trust me, no one will give two figs if you average 5 minute miles, or 25 minute miles.  It's not about how fast you get there, it's about the journey itself.

You'll be fine.  Trust me.

and I vow to never say I suck at running again or that I hate running

A) I don't have a hot date this weekend, sadly. Thank you for pointing that out. Paper cut, lemon juice etc.

Hey, me either.

I need a last-second costume. Maybe a cyclist?

Speaking of that, I love that scene in Super Troopers when they dress up to secretly meet at the restaurant and she's wearing black leather Harley gear and he comes in a jersey, spandex and Giro helmet and looks her over and goes ... ``Oh, BIKER ... I'm such an idiot.''
