Elite 3683 Whispering Pines, North Carolina | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Mrs. brown_dog_us - 2010-08-10 9:47 AM swise - 2010-08-10 9:24 AM All the wetsuit / skinsuit talk aside -- I am planning on wearing my two piece and changing bottoms throughout: swim bottoms on swim, bike shorts on bike (throw tri top on over swim top and wear through rest) and run shorts on run. This way I am most comfortable for each leg. Is this crazy talk or is anyone else doing this? (Obviously not shooting for superfast T times - and I heard that you can change in transition). Thoughts?? I don't think this is crazy at all. If my tri-top works in the pool for 4k without significant chafing (testing next week), I'll wear tri-top/bike shorts for the swim and bike, then do a complete change for singlet and shorts/fresh socks for the run. A fresh pair of shorts/socks will help my mental state for sure. If the tri-top is bad for the swim, I'll be doing what you are doing. On the bottle question, my aero no longer fits on my bike so I will run at least 1 20oz bottle of water and 1 of electrolyte drink, but maybe 2 bottles of water and one of electrolyte drink, depending on the aid station placement. I don't want to be rationing my water. Others may differ but I'd rather carry extra than run out. Steph, there will be aid stations every 10 miles. they should have cold/cool water. I don't know if they tend to run out, though. even if i get to an aid station with a half full bottle of water, i'm tossing it and getting a new one...it's going to be super important to try and stay as cool as possible throughout the day. cold water/drinks will help. |

Especially swimming: it takes every ounce of mental strength to get through my workouts.... I am ready to taper! Amen to the swim workout....its death...and what makes it worse is I always have to do it around 4:30 to 5 am. This whole thing reminds me of my one and only parachute jump. Left my house around 6 am-drove 2 1/2 hours-trained for 6 hours and then finally got up in the plane. I was scared out of my mind but I'll be damned if I wasn't going to jump after spending all that money and time. I just closed my eyes and said if someone else has done it then I can too. Scared the hell out of me though...but I did it. It was a one and done though. This is gonna be a one and "I will wait a long time if ever to do it again". My wife and kids are about done. |

I trapped a bee in my helmet on sunday so now I'm living with a swollen forehead from the sting. |

Champion 5575 Butler | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Am I tired of Training, yes. Is my wife tired of me training definately. I am going with a 2 chamber aero bottle and using what they have on the course. I will also have a water bottle full of mountain dew for around mile 80. I will also have 2 cliff bars, 2 granola bars and 2 pb crackers. I am wearing the same tri shorts the entire time. Will probably go shirtless for the swim and am wearing the tri top I wore in my first tri ever. it is too loose to wear swimming but have 2 large pockets and my other tighter tops do not. |

Expert 830 Chesapeake, VA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread You know i just notice that from the schedule that is posted there is no 2011 registration! I had a feeling there might not be a race after this year. Scratch that saw this on another part of site: U.S. Ironman races do not have waiting lists. General Registration * There will be NO on-site registration for Ford Ironman Louisville 2011. * General entry will be done online via Active.com usually opening at 12:00PM local race site time (subject to change) the day after the current year's race. I guess they figure because it doesn't fill up right away why bother. Edited by mattajw 2010-08-10 9:57 PM |

Member 56 Little Rock, AR | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread by the way, So, unless we have a record day, we can probably expect anywhere from 80-95. Even if we break the record and go 100, I've been training in heat indexes of 105-110. I say as long as we're wishing, let's try for 65 and cloudy. |

Or just grab a friend or two and jump in whenever you want; you can start at the docks next to Tumbleweed and swim back & forth between Towhead Island. The island is about 1/2 mile in length so back&forth is a mile. Sounds like you are 'volunteering' to set this up for us... I'm coming up w/my nephew, who's also racing, on Wednesday late and we're looking to swim a couple of times, if possible. ETA: or coordinate... Sorry haven't been on here in a while, hope you were able to get a swim in anyway! |

Personally, my tendonitis is doing well, but the aqua jogging has got to be the most boring thing ever....it is even worse than lap swimming. Looking at the weather, I was hoping for a cooling trend, but I don't think it is going to happen. |

Expert 1164 Roswell, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I dont really want to have a "goal time", mainly because I dont want to be too focused on the numbers that day. But here are my best guesses: Swim - 1:10-1:15 T1 - 5 Bike - 5:30-6:00 T2 - 5 Run - 4:00-4:30 So basically I want to finish between 11 and 12 hrs, which seems pretty reasonable based on my training thus far. Lets hope the weather holds out for us. |

You are the eternal optimist, a trait that will be quite helpful on race day. Don't forget about the humidity, the Ohio Valley has humidity levels that can rival Florida. Personally, I keep hoping for the random shift in the jet stream that will bring cool, dry air down from Canada. BTW, 17 days and a wake up for those who are keeping count. |
