Expert 1128![]() ![]() ![]() Fort Riley, Kansas | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official ThreadI love Honey Stinger Gels, since I had gastric bypass surgery, they are the only gels that don't give me distress, I buy them by the case. I like all the flavors but the strawberry is my favorite. I also eat the waffles on the bike. |

Also, for those that don't like the sweet taste of most gels, GU offers a "just plain" gel. I may not have gotten the name exactly right.....Tri Sam may be able to correct me if I'm wrong. |

If you are looking for mild, but want a flavor, Vanilla Bean GU may suit you as well. However, if you have something that works...it's not broken. |

Expert 760![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Memphis, TN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Threadjedward12 - 2011-03-28 3:20 PM I have a question for those of you using Infinit or really any liquid supplement for the bike ride. I did a custom formula back when they had their big sale. This is my first year using Infinit and this is my first IM. I've read varying reports but from what I can tell the general consensus is that you should be trying to replace approx 250-300 calories per hour on the bike. Is that correct? If so, what is everyone's nutrition plan to accomplish this? I believe that one bottle of Infinit for me is about 250 calories. So unless I want to figure out how to take 6 bottles with me I'll need something additional. Gels and I don't seem to mix well. I don't like the sweet, sticky taste. Any thoughts or ideas?
I don't post often in hear but enjoy reading everyone else's posts daily. Thanks! Take a look at the EFS Liquid Shots (www.firstendurance.com). Not as thick as gels. You can also mix them with water to dillute them down even further. |

They are really cool looking and feel comfy without socks. I wanted them more for doing sprint races, but if they work for longer runs I will consider wearing them for IM LOU. will write a reviews after get about 3 runs in them. If they don't work out for me running I will use them as casual shoes since they look pretty cool. |

I don't post often in hear but enjoy reading everyone else's posts daily. Thanks! Like others, I concentrate mine into 2.5 or 3-hour bottles. I sip every 15 minutes (followed by water) and make sure those bottles are gone when they are supposed to be. I set my Garmin to beep every 15min so I don't forget. I supplement with a Payday bar (at special needs last time) and also Sports Beans for a different taste in my mouth. On a side note, I reserved my hotel room today! Wheeee!

Hey Lisa - how do you set your Garmin to beep every 15 minutes? I've heard of other people doing this too, but I've never been able to figure it out (and, of course, threw away my 305 user's manual). Thanks! |

Thanks! It is called the time alert function. Directions how to set it up: 1. Press mode to access the main menu. Select training. 2. Select Training Options > Alerts>Time/Dist Alert 3. In the time alert field, select once or repeat 4. Enter a time in the Alert AT field. Press mode repeatedly to exit. |

As long as I don't see a snake I am fine ;-)....Doing an Olympic Tri in 9 days in the ocean and we have had huge shark migrations lately...hmmmm...this should be good for my nerves..lol Happy Training! We rocked them in IMLOU last year (against the suggestions of some) and they were great. I wore socks for the IM just for extra cushioning and blister protection, but they feel so great barefoot (like a slipper, seriously) that I am almost thinking about trying to go the full distance without socks. Oh so many decisions... |

Elite 3060![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() N Carolina | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official ThreadJHouse, I still have not figured out the answer to that question. To be honest with you, I have not even been on a ride with the bike decked out like it is in the picture. The maiden voyage for the bike in that configuration is tomorrow morning, 8 am sharp!!! Anyway, back to the question.....the most common suggestion is to use training wheels and save the aero wheels for race day only, but one of the reasons I chose the H3 wheels is because I keep hearing the word "bulletproof" used to describe them. Some people do use these wheels for training and racing and I believe the aluminum braking surface allows you to do that. Using them everyday is tempting, but I still have not made up my mind how I'm going to use them. Alan |

Today however im doing a 50min HR interval ride on the HED's to get a feel for the new 20cm tires. The Pic is how I run it on race day, althought this year i'll be running my NEW Swift Carbon Tubie wheels when they come in!! |
