I won hands down! Then again, it wasn't a fair race because Erin had to drive to the airport to pick her up at 10:0.
GO BRIAN! Let us know how it went.... |

I have to say the last 6 miles were the hardest thing I've done in my life! I lined up with 3:30 or 8/mile pace group. I hung on till mile 20 and then started walking the water stations and fading som. I ended up with 3:44 so around an 8:30/mile pace. I haven't looked at official results or platings yet. I'm spending a couple more days down here relaxing with friends and my AWESOME support partner , Anne! I'll write up something more official when I get back. Everyone have a good rest of the weekend! |

Veteran 283 | Subject: RE: Meulen's 'Let's tri this Thing!' beginner mentor group-CLOSED Erin decided to put me in the market to purchase a new bike helmet today after she ran mine over with her minivan! Does anyone have any recommendations for an affordable replacement? Needless to say today's beautiful weather went wasted Hope all is well out there! |

Elite 3515 Romeoville, Il | Subject: RE: Meulen's 'Let's tri this Thing!' beginner mentor group-CLOSED Check out pricepoint, jensonusa, and performance. One of them almost always has something on sale. I recommend Erin flatten yor tires and hide your pump till you get a new one. Your not allowed to ride without a helmet with your history of mishaps Giro has some less expensive options. I like laser helmets too. |

Veteran 283 | Subject: RE: Meulen's 'Let's tri this Thing!' beginner mentor group-CLOSED Brian - Thanks for the tips, and you will never have to worry about me riding without a helmet. I have had too many close calls and seen some nasty wrecks. Riding is fun, but nothing is worth that type of injury.
I started to read a great article today in one of the tri magazines (it was a British one) about this guy who could not swim at all, but learned enough to start doing a tri and then set his sights on running an Ironman. He was on a training ride when a car hit him, threw him 50 meters, shattered his legs (and his bike), and cut off the blood supply to his legs. The doctors thought that he would never walk again. Five years later, and he has already completed three IM races! It is truly amazing what some people can accomplish.... |

Besides, if you tell Erin to flatten my tires she will probably just run my bike over with her car.... |

Veteran 318 Minneapolis | Subject: RE: Meulen's 'Let's tri this Thing!' beginner mentor group-CLOSED Hey everybody, just a quick request for positive energy/thoughts/prayers for my dad! He's in his 80's, and yesterday he was at the clinic for a "stress test" where they pump some chemical in you to stimulate your heart & then have you walk on a treadmill for 4:00. Well, at 3:30 he collapsed! His heart rate had dropped to 39 (!!!) and they also detected a murmur. They rushed him over to St. Paul (about an hour from where they live) to Regions Hospital and they've been talking about putting in a pace maker. Now they're saying no, they're just doing an angiogram and maybe putting in another stent...anyway, my mom, who was my transportation to my race on Saturday, might have to stay with him now. I got to hang out with him in the hospital for a couple hours last night. Things are a bit stressful & I didn't get much sleep last night, but I'm going to make a point of getting plenty tonight & tomorrow. My fiance was probably going to come along to the race too, so if mom can't come we'll still get there. Bummer though! |

Veteran 458 Greensburg, PA | Subject: RE: Meulen's 'Let's tri this Thing!' beginner mentor group-CLOSED Here we are in May already. How did everyone's goals go for April? Any new goals for May? For April, I did pretty good: Running: 90 miles I was close at 80.25. I moved my last long run from Saturday to Sunday, or I would have met this. But, I am still happy with my total. For May I am not sure exactly what my goals are, other than to do great at my HM (Ok, actually, I will be happy to just finish!!). It is on the 15th, so I need to be ready for that. My next two weeks will probably be a little easier, especially as far as the run is concerned. Then after some recovery, I am going to jump into a HIM plan. What about you?? Karen |

Regular 88 Goleta / Santa Barbara | Subject: RE: Meulen's 'Let's tri this Thing!' beginner mentor group-CLOSED Congradulations Brian. Marathon, Triathlon Man. Whats next? Henry, Sorry about your dad. My thoughts are with you and your family. Try and use the anxiety and energy for your race. I can't wait to hear about it. Tough Mudder is this month. Think I am ready but who knows. You want to hear something funny. I stopped triathlon training and cut my running way back. I have been doing a lot of strength training and I'll be damned if I didn't lose weight. I have no idea why. Down to 191. I cannot explain it. I know I am not burning as many calories as I was and my diet has stayed pretty much the same. I don't know if I will ever understand this stuff. I hope every one is good. I don't have much time these days. Short handed at work and that means I work later. After work and workout, I am beat. Glad to see everyone is still here. |

Veteran 220 Pittsburgh, PA | Subject: RE: Meulen's 'Let's tri this Thing!' beginner mentor group-CLOSED congratulations with meeting your goals, Karen!!! that's awesome! it's gotten to the point where i've stopped logging my training and i know that i need to go back and do it again. i am still training, but alot going on here too....trying to get out of my very toxic job, switching schools for my oldest son, michael being is such severe pain that it hurts him to even walk sometimes and going to many doctors, etc, etc. however, it's crazy times like this make me remember how lucky i am to be alive. it will be 10 years this summer that i was diagnosed with cancer. and a long time being cancer free (a couple of surgeries in between, but so far, so good!!). that's something to celebrate....along with a hopeful successful first triathlon on the same month of my diagnosis. there WILL be a light at the end of this nerve-wrecking tunnel. good luck to everyone with races coming up very soon!!! and to henry this weekend. you are going to rock!!! |
