Mental pic is LOL.

No, but the client thought it was funny because I would set it up in the war room to ride early mornings just because there was more room.

Today was actually the first day I actually quit a workout. My legs were feeling tired from yesterdays hilly run, and had barely any sleep last night.  I still forced myself out of bed at 5:10 am, but 35 minutes into what was suppossed to be 1 hour 30 minutes on the bike trainer, I just couldn't push anymore.  Long trainer workouts are starting to get tough to get through, just watching TV, reading the kindle etc.  I can't take much more of this winter!!!!!!!! Yell

Good morning Mr Sklarz!!  nice to see you up and atem early like me.

Rizer22,   Yuppers the trainer is getting old and tired, i can only take soo much more of Coach Troy, sometimes i will try to do something fun on the trainer to keep myself interested, like during commericals i will ramp it up like going for a prime payout in a race, then go into situp rest mode, like i would in a race. But yes, there are those time i have no desire to be on the trainer, and that is not bad also, if you are going to do work on the thing, it might as well benefit you. Save your strength for later today or another day and make that workout count!!

Best of luck!!

Re-arranged the schedule to sleep in this morning and then get a massage before work.  Swim mid-day today and easy trainer ride tonight.  Pretty exhausted at the moment and looking forward to a rest week next week.

What is an average 880 yd. swim time?  I did a time trial last night at the pool (which I know I can improve).  I looked up the top swim time for my age group at last year's Cleveland sprint tri, and it was 7:51!!  The second time was 7:52.  Are these crazy low times?  Those times seem crazy fast to me.  My time put me smack dab in the middle of my age group.  Blah.  That's where I always fall when I race --- directly in the middle, literally (if there are 20 people...I'm #10....LOL).

Just curious....

I really, really want to get my time down to 11-12 minutes, but is that something I can accomplish by August?

What was your 880 TT time?

11-12 minutes is actually pretty fast.  Those 7s are likely from fish.

Mine was 14:20.  I know I can get it lower (even in the next month).  I seem to lose my form a bit when I'm focused on speed....it's something to work on.  My pull doesn't seem to be propelling me through the water either....something else to work on.  I'm embarassed with my time, actually.  Didn't really want to post it...

I haven't been back in the pool for long though, so I'm trying to be positive.

I googled the top girl's name and it seems she's some sort of superstar in ohio.  She's won Cleveland sprint tri for 3 years in a row.  Same with the second girl - big time college swimmer.

What's an average time for the normal human being?  LOL

Rudy, if you're going to play with us, you should introduce yourself.

Hi, I am Rudy, and i am a Tri-aholic.

Jeff and Kelly befriended me when i first started this adventure in Sept or Oct of 2008, this will be my third full year of Triathlon, and second full season of racing bicycles.

When i started i was solidly in the Clydesdale category at about 250lbs, i am currently in the neighborhood of 210lbs and hoping to be 200 by my "A" race in mid June.

I started like many others after looking at my wedding photo's and going..."WTF happened to me???"

So i decided to do something about it, and here i am today.

I am scheduled to do 6 tri's this year, 3 sprints, 2 oly's and a Half Iron Man, i have set some pretty aggressive goals this year, but as long as i keep looking at Kelly's logs and staying motivated, i think i should eclipse all of them.

i could get long winded here, but i will spare you all the stories, i hope i am not intruding, as you all have been mentoring with Kelly for while here, and i have been reading, just not posting.

It is nice to make all your acquaintances!!

Rudy

2 things here, a true 880 meter or yard TT at 14 mins +/- is a very good time, that will put you in the front third of most races, in a fresh water lake, with no tides.

second thing, you cannot compare a pool TT to an Open water swim in a race, there are too many variables such as actual distance open water, sighting ability, relay's and ex collegiate swimmers that just flat out swim like fish, and the fact that you are pumped for a race and will usually swim above your ability for the first half of race while adrenaline flows, before you relaize you are going too hard and back off to real race pace. they simply cannot be compared.

Do not be embarrased by a 14 min tt, that is a good quality time.

They are extremely fast times - fast enough that I question the 880 yard distance.

The only Cleveland Sprint Race I could find online was a 400m swim - perhaps I misunderstood your post?

From what you're saying, I think you need a drill focused period to realy hone in your stroke before trying to go faster.  If you just push harder and harder with a flawed stroke / body position, you're going to put in a lot of effort for pretty small gains.

Have you ever thought about doing the Total Immersion program?

I'm sure it's 880 yds.  It's the Cleveland Triathlon hosted by Pacific Sports Mgmt.

Thanks, all, for confirming that these are really, really fast times.  I was in disbelief until I looked up the 2 women's profiles.  They both come from really strong swimming backgrounds - college swimmers.  The one chick has won her last 9 triathlons.

I actually have thought about signing up for a TI clinic.  Didn't someone in this group do one not too long ago?  Or was that a Chi Running clinic?  Anyone been to one of these clinics?

So if you read my earlier post from this morning, I actually quit my mornign workout 35 minutes into it, due to lack of sleep (2 hrs total I think) and tired legs.  I was working from home again today, and decided I wasn't a quitter.  Not today anyway.

I finished my my workout from this morning, but took advantage and took the mountain bike out in the road.  It's 60 degrees!!  I live in the highest elevation in my town, so it is nothing but hills.  I have no choice to pretty much ride a mile on a flat road, but then have to go down hill, which means I have to come back up.

Put in an hour, 15.4 miles, and 1,600 feet of climbing.

I am not sure of that's a lot of climbing, can someone elaborate on this for me a little.  Garmin shows a 1,615 foot descent, and 1,655 of asscent.  Is that a good climb, or just for wimps?????  I know I felt it in the legs for sure.

second thing, you cannot compare a pool TT to an Open water swim in a race, there are too many variables such as actual distance open water, sighting ability, relay's and ex collegiate swimmers that just flat out swim like fish, and the fact that you are pumped for a race and will usually swim above your ability for the first half of race while adrenaline flows, before you relaize you are going too hard and back off to real race pace. they simply cannot be compared.

Do not be embarrased by a 14 min tt, that is a good quality time.

Thanks!  You made me feel better

Alright - you've gotten some decent answers, now its time for me to ask a question that has been making me nuts.  880 yard swim - that's an odd distance - did you do it at the track?

rizer22 - 2011-02-18 2:43 PM So if you read my earlier post from this morning, I actually quit my mornign workout 35 minutes into it, due to lack of sleep (2 hrs total I think) and tired legs.

Its a good climb but Garmin's are notoriously inaccurate.  If you want a true sense of the climbing, map it out using the route planner.

jarvy01 - 2011-02-18 7:47 AM What is an average 880 yd.

I guess I could have said .5 mile?  I was trying to do a simulation of the Cleveland Tri, and that's the distance.  I did 800 yds. and added some extra time onto my trial time based on my average per 100 yds.  Not an exact science, I guess, but it works for now

I've read that I ought to do 1000 yds. for a TT, actually.  Is this accurate?

i find that my pool TTs are usually slower than my race times.  in teh pool you wont have a wetsuit in teh OWS you will.  in teh pool you can push off, in teh OWS you cant, and so on.
