Elite 3072![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() san francisco | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAININGtritiny - 2012-01-19 10:37 AM I just ordered a Garmin Forerunner 910XT GPS-Enabled Device with Heart Rate Monitor. I'm excited. This is my first Garmin. The guy said that it should get here on monday. I've been watching Park Tools Videos. Thanks for the tip. Congrats on the purchase, Tiana! I have been quietly waiting for first hand reviews...my 305 is so ready to croak. I don't even use the HR strap with it anymore...occasionally it just starts autopause/autoresuming on me. Darn thing is 5 years old. Bought it for $129...been through alot together...wah. I did a 30' bike TT test today. Better than the one in November but gosh, did I mention that I hate it and it sucks? The only thing that kept me going at 15' in was considering having to repeat in a week. ARRRGH. I hate it and it sucks. So much for the "fun" part of healthy and fun. But I suppose it is good to be working in the correct zones! Happy Thursday. Did I get us off the topic of beer and breasts? |

Yes, this definitely make sense! Swimming can cause an appetite surge and the food/blood glucose will aid the body and brain in their function. Sounds like a great way to start the day! |

An early morning run works well for me and it is something I need to do more often. I've never tried the early swim and can't because my pool doesn't open until 10am (and then it is full of elderly folks doing their water aerobics and walking). |

It just makes everything right with my body and with the world. Maybe it's because nobody has had a chance to screw up my day yet? Note: Getting out of bed at 4:40am when it's 7 degrees outside is not easy. |

The woman who opens the pool (at 5:30) is always late and with the yardage I'm now doing (gasp...arms...sore...) I can't fit it in pre-work. Has anyone dealt with bone spurs on their heals? I have some from major "Lange bang" (from ski boots, John) and one pair of shoes of mine are causing major soreness. So much that it's bothering my runs. Outside of finding out which shoes are causing the soreness and never wearing them again, anything to do? get different running shoes? moleskin? |

If so, it is what I have been dealing with. Heel spurs (as i understand, are a precursor to plantar fasciitis-which you do not want!). Curious if it is only related to which shoes you wear, or do you have any other symptoms, like soreness on the bottom of the heel/foot when you first get out of bed and walk, or when you first start running. If so, I have lots of tips, from taping, to icing, to stretches, and on and on. PM me or I can bore the MG, either works...I've got no favorite am workout, any will do. So much that it's bothering my runs. Outside of finding out which shoes are causing the soreness and never wearing them again, anything to do? get different running shoes? moleskin? I just looked up heel spur and plantar fascitis. It appears heel spurs tend to be on the bottom of the heal (at least in relation to plantar faciitis). My bone spur is on the back of my foot. Imagine drawing a line from one ankle bone to the other around the backside of your foot. My bone spur is about an inch or so below that line on the back of my ankle. Fortunately, I do not have any other pain on my feet when running/walking/just getting out of bed. I've had these for decades bc back in the day (HS) when I was skiing every day I wore Lange boots. Their design had two pockets of cushioning around the ankle bones to help with stability. BUT the design meant the backside of my ankle rubbed in the void between the pockets. Over time a bone formed to protect against the irritation. So when running, it hurts right under the upper lip of back of the shoe, every time I lift my foot. Usually it's not a problem it's just been the last couple weeks. From the sneakers I've worn it seems most have extra padding there too which makes it a particular problem. |

I'm going to go stretch, roller, and make some kale chips! When I picked up Zach after school yesterday, I told him I'd gotten him a surprise that he'd love from Costco. His response? 'You're the best! Kale?!?!' Kyla's created a monster. What I had actually gotten for him were cinnabons for a breakfast treat. He was happy with those, too. |

I wish you all lived with me and we could have a big ole' kale fest... yes, before the niners game!!! Have a great race, Rachel! We are thawing out, big-time. 37-degree rain over our 8-10 inches of snow. On the heels of winter break, and just a few weeks before the "mid-winter break," my daughter had no school and my son had one day that started two hours late. Monday was MLK, Tuesday was late start (daughter home sick), and Wed-Fri schools closed. It's been quite the week, and yeah, fun!! Missed the weekly Cougar Mtn. run, though... Jealous of you, Suzy!!! Super-duper jealous!!! |

Expert 847![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Brevard, North Carolina | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAININGRachel--good luck with your race this weekend Deep thoughts: I had two other women join me on my 5 mi. run tonight. Now, keep in mind it was 12 degrees (actual temp), and snowing hard, and they were willing to run. Other significant fact was I had to slow down just ever so slightly for one of them. Here's the thinking part . . . I know that I'm not going to see the huge gains that I saw in my first season of training, but there are going to be some really great things about year two. I've been wondering how I'm going to stay motivated without the weekly, if not daily, improvements. But I'm realizing there are going to be different things that motivate me this season. One of them is having the confidence and ability to share some of this training time with friends. I know I will continue to push myself this year, but it's going to be a lot more fun and a little less suffering |
