BUST!

Unnoficial time is 3:32:45.  Still a marathon PR for me.  I had my goal of 8:00/mi up until 21 miles.  Then I had a 10, 9, 10, for the next three.  I was still set up to get it with 2 8:00 mi's the last 2, but couldn't pull it off.  Several times, I staved off a hurl, more from overhydration rather than overexertion.  I just lacked the legs to exert the effort to get 3:30 today.

No worries,  On to Ironman.

Kevin - I was thinking about you today as I drove home from my son's scout outing - probably around the same time you were kicking it into gear.  I was so hoping you were gonna blow 3:30 out of the water.

Sorry it didn't happen.  Even if you ran it in 3:32 - it just goes to show that all that effort has paid off in a big way!  I don't think I could hit 3:30 even if my father-in-law was chasing after me with his shotgun (although I probably would only have to run about 100 yards before he keeled over).

How much did you beat your previous PR by? When is the IM?  What beers did you enjoy as you rehydrated?

Okay, step right up for predictions on Kevin's marathon run!

I will make a few

1)Time:3:27 - That's the time I thought he would get...

2)He will have a few beers after the race! - That is a given.  The question is: How many?  I put the Over/Under at 4 (and my guess is that he will be over... the guys dehydrated after allWink

3)If he barfs, it because of accidently drinking keystone, not running! How do you "accidentally" drink keystone?  Drinking a Keystone is a choice and a bad one at that!!!  Kevin might puke with the hopes that his wife will take pity on him and let him lie on the couch all day, but I don't think he would ever stoop so low as to open up a keystone... However - had drinking a case of keystone been a penalty for finishing over 3:30 - my guess is that Kevin would have beaten the Kenyans to the finish line...

Kick Kevin!

Final thought before I go cook dinner...

We all need to get on the same page about our weight loss bet.  As it stands now - Kevin and I have the following bet going - Our goal is to both lose 15 pounds by Aug 1 (that's 185 for me).  If one of us doesn't - that person owes the other a $20 gift card.

Thor wants in... I want to make it clear that we are talking about US $$$ here - not Canadian monopoly money Laughing.  I think we should each set our (achievible weight loss goal that we would like to hit by August 1 and keep the same bet - you only lose if you don't meet your goal.

Here is my goal.  I want to weigh in at 180 (that's 14.6 pounds between now and then).

Thoughts?

Okay, step right up for predictions on Kevin's marathon run!

I will make a few

1)Time:3:27 - That's the time I thought he would get...  At mile 21, I was thinking, "man, that Thor is really a prophet.  He predicted my marathon time."

2)He will have a few beers after the race! - That is a given.  The question is: How many?  I put the Over/Under at 4 (and my guess is that he will be over... the guys dehydrated after allWink  As I was stopping at 2 22 oz. IPA's, I was thinking how tasty another beer would be, but then remembered said bet with David about the 170 lb weight loss challenge and was able to refrain.  4 was the total.

I fought a few barfs off between 22-26 due to overhydration.  Your comments about keystone are spot on.  WTH was that marketing campaign about in the mid 90's about grabbing a keystone to avoid bitter beer face?

Kick Kevin!

I'm in.  I'm at 182.? today.  I will lose down to 168 by Aug 6.  14.? pounds.  My tri clothes will fit better, (right now I look and feel rediculous)Laughing  I like the Idea of gift card to the others if you don't meet your goal, that will prevent me from recieving any Molson, or whatever other bottom shelf beer there sucking on up there in Canadia.

We should post weight 1 time weekly just for accountability and joking sake.

Alright, weekend full of sick kids. Not over yet. I am in. I want to be 179.9 or less by August 1. Last time I weighed in I was 185 but that was after a 2.5 hour run with no fluid or fuel and before breakfast. So, I am guessing 8-10 pounds weight loss. I don't have easy access to a scale.

So we got to send 3 gift cards of 20 bucks out if we fail, is that the bet?

That is smoking fast if you ask me. I know a little short but man, if you keep your run fitness and add in those long bikes you are going to knock the snot out of your IM.

So what is the training plan?

I weigh in on saturday.  I figure i will hit 192.  That's 70 pounds in the bag, fellas.  Having come so far, there is no way I will stop short of losing another 13 pounds.  My motivation... If I lose - the $60 I will fork over to you represents about a case and 1/2 of beer.   179 by August 6.

I know we are all about the beer but I've really been trying to eat better.  So I've tried two things I would have laughed at 6 months ago: Chia Seeds (like the seeds they put on Chia pets) and Wheat Berries.  The Chia is a lot like tapioca and is supposedly full of fiber and omega 3s.  And the wheat berries are full of fiber and protein... Chia is edible and I'm trying the Wheat Berries tomorrow.

Speaking of beer - How was the winter beer kevin?  Tonight I had a beer from my friend's brewery.  How I got lucky enough to have a friend who makes beer professionally is beyond me.

Winter Brew is o.k.  I do enjoy winter ale's, and this one is on sale at local distributer for $6.50 ($10.00 Canadian) so I had to go for it.  I'm drinking a Linenkugal's summer fest tonight for a contrast, and thinking I need to cut out week day drinking and leave it to a few on the weekends.  This is my struggle.

Glad the seeds and berries are paying off David.  70lbs is amazing!  Way 2 go man.  This little challenge is fun and motivating at the same time, and I'm looking forward to being more around my competition weight in college and high school.

OK - I changed my weigh in date to Wednesday and hopped on the scale this morning.  Down 1.8 pounds to 192.8.  That means I have until August 6 to drop 13 pounds.  Should be totally doable.  Gentlemen: How did you fare?

Kevin - Glad to hear that you are getting back to your high school weight... As I hit my 40's, the thought that I haven't been in this good shape for 20 years brings a smile to my face as I hope it does yours...

how do you eat the Chia seeds. I did this race in February and this guy was sucking on a bottle of chia seeds on the run. He said you soak them over night. I thought it strange.

I was just wondering how you will incorporate what I figure is your strength (running) into your training.

My swim is where I'd like to see it, I'm only going to get better at it from here on out.  I'm at 2:05/100 on my longer stuff.

I'm hoping to make the most gains on the bike.  I'm pathetic, so I'm spending the following 2 weeks doing the bike focus week in my HIM plan to get some .  Hoping to shoot up by 3 mph by race day.  I'm 14-15 mph right now.

Run is good.  I will taper way back on mileage.  I'd like to stay at a 1:44 HM pace (8:00/mi) for HIM and training for the next 2 years.  If I get faster, all the better, but I have a goal of 6:00-6:15 for overall HIM time this year.

I'm in at 185.  Too many barleys of late.  I will not count the backslide pounds, and will hold 168 by Aug. 6th.
