On a related note I had to google attachment parenting after seeing the Time cover. What you don't chew your kids food before giving it to them? What idiot celeb did I hear was doing that?? We're pretty traditional with the child rearing. Off the breastfeeding when the teeth showed up, tell our kids no all day every day, scolding, spanking on rare occasion, no dating until 30, et al. |

I used to LOVE the SNL skits where they would do that! Had to be 10 years ago or so. |

We're heading out of town for mother's day. I have to pack everyone up and pick up my husband after work. My parents live in a flat, rural town, so I'm pretty jazzed for my long ride tomorrow morning. No stop lights or traffic!!! 2 of my sisters are making a brunch for my mom, other sister (who has 3 kids), and me, so there should be lots of good eats after my ride. 2 of my kids are being treated for pinkeye (1 for less than 24 hours) and 3 of them have colds, so I do have to call and confirm that it's ok for us to come with our lingering illnesses. Apparently Madge was exposed to Fifth's Disease at preschool, so I am on the lookout for signs of that as well. Happy Mother's Day to all the moms in this group! Being a mom is a 24/7 job....no vacations! It's the hardest, most rewarding process, and you all should be proud when you look at your little ones.
OK I just googled Fifth's Disease and it's parvo for kids?! Is that true? Anyway, have a great Mother's Day weekend to all the mom's here! Yes, it's true. Got a letter that a classmate came down with it on Monday. 4-14 day incubation period. I hope she just has a cold, and it's not the virus. |

On a related note I had to google attachment parenting after seeing the Time cover. I consider myself a moderate when it comes to these mothering issues, but I am VERY pro-breastfeeding. I still fail to see the point of the picture and the article. I'm not sure it creates helpful, productive dialogue. On a side note...helicopter parents are waaaay worse than attachment parents. |

Extreme Veteran 863 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED I am also pro-breast-feeding. Breast-fed all four of my children. But I do not understand the point of that picture. And Jen, I feel your pain. I also have to travel to my mother in laws for Mother's Day. I did however find a small triathlon to do on mother's day just for me. Mothers day is always about my mother in law since her birthday is May 12. |

Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED I actually think the pictures are beautiful, and the moms look fierce and proud. It's ok to feel that way about the choices you make. IMO, putting the images on a cover of a magazine like Time feels like propaganda to me. It's almost as if it's put there for shock value and not to spark some sort of intelligent discourse on extended breastfeeding. Perhaps it's just that particular photo. I don't know. Michele - Glad to hear you found a triathlon to race!! Wish I could say the same My mom is emotional, open, and demonstrative (like me) while my mother-in-law is....well, cold. It's an entirely different weekend now. Like you, I will make the best of it. Tonight we're ordering sushi and pizza and renting a movie. It's family movie night. |

Extreme Veteran 863 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED I have only seen the cover picture of time on the television. I have not seen other pictures. I think putting a picture like that on the cover of that type of magazine is asking for open controversy. I'm curious now to see the other pictures. My husband is taking my oldest 3 kids to see the avengers 3d tonight. Sushi sounds yummy!! |

Pro 4723 CyFair | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED The Avengers was AWESOME!!! I think this particular movie in 3D would be sensory overload for me, let alone a kid. Just my $.02.
Weekend. Tomorrow- errands, errands, errands, and cut the yard. Sunday- 2hr sweat test before everyone wakes up. Then Mother's Day Brunch, park with the kids, ice cream, dinner and a movie. I'm currently racking my brain on a restaurant quality meal I can replicate at home on Sunday for Cindy. She really wants sushi, but that is super $$$ to be hungry 10 minutes later. Might go Italian. Mushroom and veal ravioli or carbonara with homemade pasta. Can't decide. |

That's a little worrisome about the 3D! Hope my kids deal with it OK, but it is my husbands problem - I will be home with the 3 yo.
My new favorite meal is portabella mushroom with pesto and mozzarella cheese on top - all baked. So yummy! I could eat it every night. It's nice that you are making dinner for Cindy!!
Kelly - that is a lot of travel in 24 hours!! Wow! |

I want to make fresh pasta but don't really have the tools. Maybe a good excuse to buy a pasta roller/cutter. Hmmmmm..... |

Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED Mmmm, portobello, pesto & cheese. I stuffed some the other night with a mixture of chopped up arthchoke hearts, feta, kalamata olives, pine nuts, and sun dried tomatoes. They were pretty good. Tonight we are having home made personal pizzas. My husband is making BBQ Chicken for himself, our son will have boring pepperoni (unless he gets a better offer and blows us off), and I'm making mine with pesto, walnuts, goat cheese, and topping with fresh arugula when it's done cooking. We had this pizza at a friends house recently and I can't stop thinking about it! |

Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED I'm hoping thin crust. My husband is in charge of the dough, and I like super thin crispy cracker like crust. I do not have a recipe for the stuffed portobellos, I just threw it together with what I had in the house. Next time I might add some black beans. I have not been to Osteria but keep getting emails and seeing ads for it. I'm pretty sure they are affiliated with Doc Chey's, one of our favorite little places in Virginia Highlands. Is the pizza good? I'm picky about my pizza, we have yet to find a decent pizza place in the south. |

Next time try sprinkle the thin crust with garlic, and parmasan, partially cooking the crust, before putting the sauce and hot toppings on. Comes out extra crisp and it keeps the sauce from soaking in making the crust soft. Yum. My favorite toppings? chilled arugula, baby red leaf, radicchil, tomatoes and shaved Parmesan tossed in Bijan balsamic vinaigrette. Very tricky to eat, unless you use a knife and fork.
