Hope I can find someone to put it together. Cash, you can probably do most of it yourself... I'm assuming it's a threadless headset. The things I would make sure the shop does: 1. Cut your steerer tube (tube at the top of the fork) to the right size (after fit). Congrats on the new bike! |

Last year only one guy in age group, and he moved up to new ag this year. No one in lower group would join Mikes group. 200 yard swim 6 mile bike 1.5 mile run. But since he is almost always bottom 10 percent, and he doesnt ever train, this is his one chance to tell friends and relatives he won a tri. He won't mention he was the only person in the age group. LOL, that is great. |

If you know anything about bikes, you can probably do it yourself. Post some photos when you get her up and running. |

Expert 938 Orange County, California | Subject: RE: Milaminute and Sparco's Group - Closed Mike came in 4th out of 4 in age group. Six signed up. 2 either DNS or DNF. He was bummed as soon as he saw more than 3 in his age group. His training consists of 2 swims in the last year, both in the last week. Longest 400 yards. No bike rides in the last year. Runs at least 3 miles a month no more than 7 miles per month. Pretty day, water was over 60. Temps high of 65. |

Expert 938 Orange County, California | Subject: RE: Milaminute and Sparco's Group - Closed Did a 42 mile bike ride on saturday. First half I was thinking I was way fast. Found on why on the last 20 miles. 15 mph winds into my face the whole way back. First time ever got hot spots on the balls of my feet. I have spd mtn bike shoes and pedals. Am thinking of road shoes and pedals for the tri bike when it comes in. Any suggestions? How do the gear shifters work on the end of the aero bars? I assume squeeze down to change down but how do you gear up? |

Am thinking of road shoes and pedals for the tri bike when it comes in. Any suggestions? Anything that fits well. You'll want shoes that fit fairly snug so your feet won't slip around inside when pedaling. I've done fine with sizing to my street shoes. Here's a generic sizing chart. There are Euro half sizes, for example, I wear a 41.5 (size 8), but normally have to look for wider shoes.
As far as brands, I've ridden Diadoras, Nashbars and Louis Garneaus. Haven't had any problems. Nashbar runs narrow. As far as type...I've only ridden road shoes. My current ones have 2 straps. The lower one is Velcro, the top strap is a ratchet with a quick release button, like you find in ski boots. Triathlon shoes typically will have one Velcro strap at the top of the shoe. And some tri shoes are carbon. Those will cost you $300. I'm nowhere near that level yet. As far as pedals, I have ridden Look/Look compatible for years and haven't seen a need to change. I've heard good things about Speedplay pedals, though. I think Mila has a pink pair. How do the gear shifters work on the end of the aero bars? I assume squeeze down to change down but how do you gear up? Just like the old down-tube shifters and old-school bar end shifters. One direction is up, the other is down. Depends on your preference. Some like the S.I.S index shifting (each click corresponds to a sprocket on the cassette). Some like it old school (non-indexed, by feel). Most give you the choice. |

Well, your pedals can be pink, but your shoes can be any color you want them to be... I think it's time for you to go have a talk with Max. (I'm sure Speedplay gives you a choice of all kinds of cool colors) |

Ya woulda thunk he would have changed by now. Great pics though. Any particular style of speedplay that you would recommend? Well pink pedals might deter local thieves. |

Did someone say pink Speedplay pedals??? Mine are Light Action and I absolutely love them. Now people may think my bike has a bit too much pink on it but I assure you that it's easy to spot in transition. I'm not as dumb as I look, ya know! |

Have never had a problem with my Looks in a triathlon, but just looking at it 'logically,' since you can get into Speedplays either direction, I would imagine they are a few seconds faster in transition. Biggest difference is price. Speedplays will run you $100 plus. Look COMPATIBLES will run you half that. If you practice a whole lot, you can snap your shoes into your pedals beforehand (cranks secured to frame with rubber bands so your shoes don't drag), run out of transition with your bike, and then slip your feet into your cycling shoes. I haven't been brave enough to do this one yet. I may try this in a few of my sprint tris after I'm done with my 'A' race (HIM)... |

Expert 938 Orange County, California | Subject: RE: Milaminute and Sparco's Group - Closed At my speeds I doubt a few seconds will make a difference. I saw Looks for 99 and 154 dollars. The more expensive one had better bearings. Would i notice a difference with better bearings? |

It's all ball bearings nowadays. Now you prepare that Fetzer valve with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads. And I'm gonna need 'bout ten quarts of anti-freeze, preferably Prestone. No, no make that Quaker State." Fletch. Sorry. That's all I could add. |

Overall was good particularly since I sandwiched it between a 1750 yard nonstop swim and a 5k non-stop run. My own "BRETTATHALON" --- I was the grand champion too! First place overall...!!!!!! Now, I'm going to have to have a serious discussion with the RD, since I didn't even get a medal or a lousy t-shirt -- just a 16 oz Jamba Juice! Ok -- I'm in a sassy mood today... Mila must be rubbing off on my long distance!!!

I'm not a believer in spending a fortune on a bike helmet. As long as it meets specifications and protects your noggin, it works for me. Unless you're interested in an aerohelmet (which I'm assuming you're not if you're new to cycling), I'd say your best bet is to go to the LBS and see what they recommend. Have them fit it on you while you're there. |

LOL My Speedplays are HOTTT in transition. Is that what you were asking?? Honestly, once you're used to your pedals I think it's all relative. I have no problem whatsoever with mine. I can tell you that at the SCHIM last year I almost got into a bad wreck because a man with Look Keos was having a tough time clipping in but who knows what his experience level was or what was going on with his nerves or whatever.
