Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group - CLOSEDabqtj - 2011-02-20 5:13 PM Oh yeah, when I said newer shoes, they are the newer TRAIL shoes I bought last month. And today I ran 80% on pavement in them. Could that be a big part of it? Unless they're Newtons, its likely not it. You're describing pain in the ligament on the outside of the ankle that connect the heel to the fibula (the calcaneo-fibular and talo-fibular ligaments ). I'm actually really familiar with them because these ligaments were surgically reconstructed on my left ankle. Generally pain in this area is caused by trauma (and ankle sprain/strain ) or something strange going on further up in the leg (such as calve tightness ). If the shoes are really different and are affecting / changing your stride, it possibly the shoes. This would happen if you went from serious motion control shoes to neutral shoes or vice versa. I'm wondering if you were off balance at all during the run (or even at work ) and caused a strain without knowing it.
